Trez controversy insults Juve

David Trezeguet caused controversy in probably his final Juventus game by making an offensive gesture towards the President.

The Frenchman is currently renegotiating his contract, which expires in 2008, but has been barred from going to Inter.

After he scored in the game against Spezia this afternoon at Turin’s Stadio Olimpico, Trezeguet made a very clear gesture towards the VIP section where President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli was seated.

He made a number 15 with his fingers – the goals he has scored in Serie B this season – and then a gesture that in Italian means “I’m out of here.”

This has done nothing to calm the tension between club and striker, who is now 99 per cent certain to walk away despite their return to Serie A and the arrival of Coach Claudio Ranieri.

Trezeguet has reportedly received offers from Inter, Olympique Lyonnais, Marseille, Barcelona and Arsenal.

Juve have confirmed they do not want to release him to another Italian side, for fear of strengthening their rivals as they did when Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira joined Inter.

Newly-promoted Serie B outfit Avellino have appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new Coach after the shock resignation of Giovanni Vavassori.

Ex-Genoa boss Vavassori guided the Irpini back up to the Cadetti via the Serie C play-offs after reversing a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Foggia in the Final.

It had been initially announced that the 55-year-old would remain at the helm, but he surprisingly quit just days before the Biancoverdi were due to begin pre-season training.

Sarri has been unemployed since his dismissal at Arezzo last term. The Campania native has limited experience, but he did steer Pescara to Serie B safety in 2005-06.

Avellino boss Maurizio Sarri has surprisingly quit the club just days before the start of the new Serie B campaign.

The Irpini secured an immediate return to the Cadetti by squeezing through the Serie C play-offs under the guidance of ex-Genoa tactician Giovanni Vavassori.

Vavassori unexpectedly walked out on the Lupi at the start of pre-season citing differences with President Marco Pugliese and it seems the new man may have experienced similar problems.

“I felt ill at ease,” Sarri explained in his statement.

“When I feel valued and motivated I could do this job for free, but as things are I just can’t take the fans and the players for a ride.”

The most likely successor is ex-Bari Coach Guido Carboni, but it appears that the Campanians will be managerless for their opening-day trip to Treviso.
