Record-breaking donation to the fight against slavery

200,000 euro donated to Roskilde's humanitarian focus.

Thanks to a big effort from about 700 volunteer refund collectors and support from the Roskilde-goers at this year’s festival, we can now announce a record-breaking result from this year’s humanitarian refund collection.

As a result, refund worth DKK 956,743 (approx. ¤ 129,000) was collected. On top of the amount from the refund collection, The Roskilde Festival Society donates DKK 543,257 (approx. ¤ 73,000) from the Roskilde Festival ’06 profits. The total amount reaches DKK 1.5 millions (approx. ¤ 202,000) – money to help fight child slavery in Cambodia.

Elk jaar maakt Roskilde een paar kleine aanpassing aan de podia. Vorig jaar werd de grote geluidstoren voor het Orange podium weggehaald zodat het zicht verbeterde. Dit jaar zijn er nieuwe designs en invulling gegeven aan het podium Ballroom en het Metropool.

Na 10 succesvolle jaren, is het einde gekomen aan de jarenlange trouwe dienst van deze tenten. Sinds 1997 wist de Ballroom grote verrassingen te presenteren op het Roskilde Festival. Nu is het tijd voor een nieuwe invulling. De nieuwe tent heet Astoria en geeft ruimte voor nieuwe vormen van expressie en vertoon. In de tent zullen overdag de intiemere acts spelen, terwijl er in de avond ruimte is voor een club stage met energieke feesten. Astoria maakt ruimte voor een intieme sfeer tussen de artiest en het publiek. Dit alles wil zeker niet zeggen dat er geen wereldmuziek meer te zien is op Roskilde, deze acts zullen te zien zijn verspreid over de verschillende podia van het Roskilde Festival.

De tweede verandering is de komst van het podium Roskilde Cosmopol. Electronische muziek gefuseerd met andere vormen van expressie. Een nieuwe hotspot voor de underground urban genres. Er is ruimte voor hiphop, dancehall, grime, R&B, urban world music, neo soul en meer organische electronische muziek. Het komt allemaal op een nieuw podium waar ruimte is voor bands, DJs, breakdance en rap battles ook op het visuele gebied is er veel te zien. De tent heeft ruimte voor 6.000 personen.

Red Hot Chili Peppers ready for Roskilde

Red Hot Chilli Peppers is the first big act in 2007.

After a period of expectant whispering in the corners, we are now ready to draw the curtains slightly aside for the music playing this summer. We are looking forward to reintroducing a band who has enjoyed huge success, both commercially and among the critics.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS (US), LA’s proud sons, will be visiting Roskilde Festival again this year. Since the breakthrough with 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik, they have been among the top acts of modern rock, providing festive spirits with their unique brand of spicy funk rock which communicates with both the organ between the ears and the one between the legs.

Experiencing the band live is first and foremost the energy of slap bass player Flea, Chad Smith’s pounding on the pots, and the masterful guitar work of John Frusciante. And front man Anthony Kiedis is still a muscular explosion of energy despite almost 25 years on stage. So expect a strong musical dish which will surely leave a strong burning sensation.

Roskilde Festival aims at announcing new acts before the ink on the contract is dry. Expect several new treats before long.

We kinda sorta figured that by the time June rolled around, we would be ready for a break from recording (escape??) and since we had so much fun in Europe last summer, we thought "why not go back for some more fun and games?" We're planning to share the summer love with our friends in some different countries we didn't get to last year.. okay, fuck it, maybe one or two repeats. We haven't quite worked out all the details yet, but we thought that for once we really would be the first site to break a piece of Metallica news.

So keep your eyes open for more details in the next few.. the plan right now is to head out in late June and hang out for a couple/three weeks. We might even do a certain festival that we've played 19 times in July that starts with a "W," maybe hit a certain band member's home turf... blah, blah, blah.

Feb 12th New The Police Reunion tour to start late summer
This story on Billboard.com says that the Police take off in August:

Sources close to the tour exclusively tell Billboard.com that the plan is for the Police to tour North America through the first week of August, then play the U.K. and Europe, returning to North America in late October.
The fan site Stingus.net says the tour will kick off on May 28th in Canada. Over the summer til the beginning of August the band will play stadions and areanas in Canada and North America. From late-August until mid-October the tour will visit the U.K. and Europe before heading back to the States. Late also Mexico, Australia and New Zealand is palnned.

According to Billboard.com no other festivals than Bonnaroo are planned. Looks like the Police wont make it to Roskilde after all.

KLAXONS

Heavy sounds at Roskilde Festival ’07

Roskilde Festival serves up a terrific and varied handful of metal acts – Slayer, Mastodon, Pelican and Cult of Luna are ready to make the ground rumble at the Festival Site.

Heavy sounds and explosive tempos have always been a natural ingredient in Roskilde Festival’s programme. Therefore, it is a great pleasure to welcome back Slayer (US) to Roskilde Festival. They have returned to the original lineup known from classic and defining albums such as Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss – so the time could not be any riper than now for a revisit by the thrash metal kings.

Besides the proud and original metal guards, there will be plenty of newer acts from all nuances of the heavy spectrum. American band Mastodon (US) have spellbound metal heads with their brutal and virtuoso Blood Mountain – an album that has harvested great recognition from both the underground and the mainstream music magazines.

Pelican (US) and Cult of Luna (S) represent some of the new winds that are blowing. With great effect, they add elements from the instrumental soundscapes of post-rock to their guitar charges.

Beastie Boys and The Killers play at Roskilde Festival

Two big American names are announced this week along with a handful of smaller Swedish acts.

We aim at a wide audience with this week’s announcement of bands – spanning from genre-breaking hip hop to stylistic Swedish retro rock.

Beastie Boys are one of the most important profiles in hip hop, and we are looking forward to welcoming them back. The Killers is a very popular band – on their latest album Sam’s Town they have specialised in grandiose and festival-suited stadium rock.

BEASTIE BOYS (US) are still one of the most important and influential figures in hip hop with their trendsetting videos and total lack of musical shyness.

THE KILLERS (US) plays grandiose and epic rock in the vein of especially Springsteen and U2.

MANDO DIAO (S) have it all: rocking riffs, catchy tunes and a faultless blend of NYC garage rock and britpop conceived in provincial Sweden.

Alternative rock with grand ambitions to Roskilde Festival ’07

Both Muse (UK) and Arcade Fire (CAN) offer solid alternative rock and are the latest additions to this year’s programme.

Some people feel good about the minimal and sparse, while others prefer imposing extravaganzas. Whether this applies to architecture, cooking or rock music, there will always be groupings of people with inclinations to ‘less is more,’ while others claim that ‘big is beautiful.’ The two bands in this week’s announcement are both contemporary representatives of the latter conviction – in each its own way, the music has the full-bodied and the towering elements as focal point.

ARCADE FIRE
With a mix of early Roxy Music, David Bowie and Talking Heads, ARCADE FIRE (CAN) have been universally praised. With their latest album Neon Bible just released, Arcade Fire are ready to show their audience why the Canadians in a matter of no time have developed from an upcoming act to trendsetting stars.

MUSE (UK) keep the most pompous virtues of British rock alive with their ambitious, futuristic rock opera and wind-swept guitar solos. African soul, Jamaican sunshine music and modern big city hip hop will rub shoulders at Roskilde Festival’s new stage Cosmopol.

Roskilde Festival hereby reveals the first names to play the new stage, Cosmopol. The stage is a brand new hot spot for underground urban genres and will sparkle with hip hop, R’n’B, global beats and rhythms, neo-soul and music from the more organic electronic scene.

MAHMOUD AHMED (ETH) is an African James Brown with his characteristic mixture of funk, jazz and soul.

Exciting and kaleidoscopic sound
Roskilde Cosmopol is a stage that reflects the cultural meetings of the big city. This first sneak peek is a little preview of the diverse artists that await the audience at this stage. Strong British acts to Roskilde Festival

Great Britain is, as always, a major supplier of strong alternative rock, and we have lots of Brits on the bill – with Arctic Monkeys as the major, returning attraction.

The British Isles are one of the most important brooding grounds for rock music, and the turnout of bands with eyes for both change and tradition does not seem to diminish in the new millennium – rather the opposite. The diversity, wealth and quantity on the British scene may seem unbeatable, but again this year we pick out some of the best British names – both well-established chart-toppers and small and exciting acts.

ARCTIC MONKEYS’ status is miraculously intact after an intense tour schedule with their tradition-bound yet refreshing rock. The spring album Favourite Worst Nightmare will, judging from the first single releases, outclass the debut album – so these polar boys will yet again prove that our blue and green planet is indeed the Planet of the Apes.

CAMERA OBSCURA is an intellectual indie band hooked on catchy choruses and tragicomic lyrics.

HOLLY GOLIGHTLY explores warm, acoustic folk, organ-based pop and country-blues – and she delivers the goods live as she does on an already gloriously long series of albums.

TUNNG lean on the indietronica scene and acts such as Four Tet and The Beta Band, but their anachronistic collision between Fairport Convention and electronic dissonances and samples place the Brits in their very own category.

With this flowering British bouquet, we move from pastoral, rural bliss with Tunng to the hormone-filled and trembling dance floor with Arctic Monkeys.

Metal’n’roll on the Orange Stage
VOLBEAT (DK) opens the Orange Stage this year. The band has enthused fans with its latest album, the terrific Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil. The album title demonstrates the band’s mix of rock’n’roll and metal – so this year Roskilde Festival opens with a both popular and genre-challenging rock act.

	Roskilde Festival Roskilde Festival is met zo'n 100.000 bezoekers een van de grootste festivals van Europa. Het festival duurt 4 dagen (van donderdag t/m zondag), maar vanaf de zondag ervoor is de camping al open. Meestal wordt het festival eind juni/begin juli gehouden. Er komen bezoekers vanuit heel Europa naar Roskilde in Denemarken. Het unieke aan het festival is dat het niet commercieel is. Er werken alleen maar vrijwilligers. De opbrengst gaat naar goede doelen. Het festival telt zes podia: Orange (mainstage), Arena (voor de gevestigde acts), Odeon (rock/metal), Ballroom (jazz en Afrikaanse muziek), Metropol (dance/dj's) en Pavilion (singer-songwriter) In 2000 gebeurde er een tragisch ongeval met dodelijke afloop. Bij het optreden van Pearl Jam kwamen 9 mensen om het leven doordat ze werden verdrukt in de menigte, bij het crowdsurfen. 	Bjork was afsluiter in het jaar dat ik er was. Een gigantische anti-climax. Van te voren lekker met Queens of the stone age mee staan zingen, komt vervolgens die zweefteef met haar semi-intellectueel gejengel (je begrijpt dat ik geen grote fan ben). Een festival hoort mijn inziens uit te gaan met een grote berg gitaren en dan oorverdovende stilte.

	Ik wil dit jaar dus voor het eerst naar Roskilde. Ik ben de afgelopen 3 jaar naar Lowlands geweest en dacht nu, laat ik eens naar iets groters gaan dan dit. Nu vraag ik mij af hoe jullie dit regelen. Ik wil gewoon met het vliegtuig, maar kopen jullie al je spullen al in nederland (tent enzo), of kopen jullie dat in denemarken. Ook vraag ik mij of of het de moeite waard is om al de dagen voordat het echte festival begint, maar de camping enzo wel al open is, heen te gaan. Ik weet eigenlijk weinig van dit festival, maar wat ik hoor is allemaal heel positief. Graag zou ik er dus wat meer over weten, en dan speciaal hoe jullie Nederlanders dit geregeld hebben... en ervaren.

	de 2x dat ik geweest ben zijn we met de camper en auto geweest en gewoon alles zelf meegenomen (we hebben een 8 persoons tent ) dus met vliegtuig/bagage heb ik geen ervaring ik vond het zeker leuk om de hele week op de camping te staan. beetje bier drinken, voetballen, relaxen. je kunt ook zwemmen in het meertje er is 1 tent de hele week open, daar spelen Deense bandjes je kunt ook gaan kijken naar skaten of basketballen, of een filmpje pakken natuurlijk vorig jaar nog avondje wezen stappen in Kopenhagen je kunt je dus prima vermaken

RHCP, Killers, Peter Bjorn and John, de Klaxons en Björk vond ik sowieso al de moeite waard. En de rest ook niet onaardig. Alleen bij die Metalbands en bij Tiësto zul je me in ieder geval niet tegenkomen!

	vorig jaar ben ik ook op Roskilde geweest en dit jaar zal ik er naar alle waarschijnlijkheid ook weer bij zijn... een must om naar Roskilde te gaan... en met de bands die nu al bevestigd zijn... kan je het toch ook niet laten om niet te gaan.. dus lekker met het autootje naar roskilde, vliegtuig vorig jaar was op zich ook wel relaxed, maar met de auto kan je wat meer meenemen hahaha

	Ze hebben weer 5 nieuwe namen aan de bandlist toegevoegd die ik allemaal niet ken: - Taxi Taxi - Electrelane - New Young Pony Club - Ungdomskulen - the Whitest Boy Alive. Ben alvast begonnen met zoeken en downloaden, hoewel nr. 1 en 4 vooralsnog moeilijk te vinden zijn. Verder maken ze op 19 april de volledige lineup bekend!

	CSS concert gisteren in Paradiso was een geweldig leuke show! Vol energie, humor en heerlijk dansbare muziek.... Als het de genres electro en/of rock je aanspreken ga ze dan zeker even bekijken! Nieuw toegevoegd trouwens -Against me! (UK) -Bonde do Role (BRA) -Booka Shade (D) -Clipse (US) -Zyklon (N) Ben benieuwd of er nog echt grote namen bij gaan komen, of dat het vooral nieuwe bands zijn die ze nu nog gaan aankondigen.
