Fiorentina have warned Inter to forget about making a summer bid for Serie A top scorer Luca Toni.

The Italian hitman has been strongly associated with the Nerazzurri in recent weeks after his exploits in Florence this term.

However, Viola patron Diego Della Valle has assured fans that the striker is remaining where he is.

“Toni is staying at Fiorentina,” stated Della Valle last night. “After all, where would you want him to go?”

The summer signing from Palermo has been a massive hit in Florence following his arrival and yesterday grabbed a brace to reach 30 League goals.

Those strikes have been a major factor in the club’s remarkable campaign and they are now on the verge of finishing fourth ahead of Roma.

“It was a great day on Sunday for the team and the city,” added the club official after the 5-2 destruction of Reggina.

“The real party has been delayed until next week though,” he added with the club needing a victory to pip Roma to a Champions League spot.

“We hope to celebrate at Chievo’s home even if they are an excellent team who have always done well this season.”

Empoli to share Fiorentina stadium?

Empoli are in negotiations to play their home games at Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi next season, confirmed the club.

“If current circumstances stay the same, we will be playing in Florence next term,” said patron Fabrizio Corsi.

“Our first meetings with Fiorentina and the Florence Council have been positive. Everyone is ready to welcome Empoli to the Stadio Franchi, so we’ll discuss details over the next few days.”

The Azzurri currently play their home games at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, which holds just 19,487 spectators.

Empoli is in the province of Florence, so it would not be a long trip for the fans to go to the Stadio Franchi.

This would not be the first time that they have shared the ground, as Empoli’s first ever Serie A home game, a 1-0 win against Inter on September 14, 1986, was also played in Florence.

They moved into their own stadium when the Castellani was opened in November 1986.

Totti ready for Coppa clash

Francesco Totti will play against Inter in tomorrow’s Coppa Italia Final, said Roma boss Luciano Spalletti.

The captain was set to make his comeback against Treviso last week, but pulled out at the last minute due to flu symptoms.

“His temperature has gone down and he has trained regularly. It’s not easy to decide on whether he should start or come on as a substitute, but Totti is ready for this game,” explained the Coach. “We have to consider the best option, as there are many elements that need to be evaluated.”

It would be the Italian international’s first competitive match since fracturing his ankle in a clash with Empoli defender Richard Vanigli on February 19.

The Giallorossi have selection problems for this match, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at the Olimpico, as Rodrigo Taddei, Philippe Mexes and Simone Perrotta are suspended.

Daniele De Rossi has also been struggling with Totti’s flu virus, but has been included in the squad travelling to Milan.

“The next few days will see San Siro host the keys to our season,” added Spalletti. “We very much want to win the Coppa Italia, but must also beat Milan here on Sunday to maintain our bid for a Champions League spot.”

Roma must either win with Inter or net more than one in a score draw to lift their first Coppa Italia since 1991.

“In the first leg, we had the desire to win, but weren’t organised enough. Inter are a big side and know to take advantage when we lose focus, but I feel good about this Final and we all have faith in our chances. It would be a great opportunity for everyone, as many of our players haven’t won silverware in a while. We’re hungry for this Coppa Italia.”

Inter will be without Ivan Cordoba, as his appeal against a two-match Coppa Italia ban was rejected this evening.

The defender was caught on camera striking Leandro Cufre on the back of the head during the 1-1 first leg draw last week.

FIGC Vice-President Mazzini resigns

After FIGC President Franco Carraro, it was confirmed this evening that Vice-President Innocenzo Mazzini has also resigned.

The Federation released an official statement announcing the decision to hand in his resignation following the growing scandal surrounding Juventus.

Bianconeri director general Luciano Moggi’s alleged telephone conversations with refereeing designator Pierluigi Pairetto were recorded by investigators and printed in newspapers in Italy last week.

“My current state of mind in personal and federal terms is extremely uncomfortable,” explained Mazzini.

“As a citizen and a man of sport, I have not been hit by disciplinary action, or a legal challenge Nonetheless, I feel it best to leave now and clarify any misunderstanding.”

The Federation has come under increasing pressure as a result of the telephone interception allegations which has brought into question the credibility of the Italian game.

Although Carraro pledged that the “sporting justice system would act quickly and with vigour,” he threw in the towel on Monday.

“The Federation’s commitment in the coming days and months are so many and large that it will need a management that is fully able to fulfil its functions and concentrate on itself,” stated Carraro.

Carraro’s decision to step down, which he was set to do later this year anyway, has seen Vice-President Giancarlo Abete automatically promoted to the top job.

MILANO, 11 maggio 2006 - Un ciclone che rischia di travolgere tutto e tutti sta per abbattersi sulla Federcalcio. L’inchiesta della procura di Napoli potrebbe arrivare a costringere la giustizia sportiva a stravolgere il campionato. Nove società tra A e B (Juve, Lazio, Fiorentina, Udinese, Siena, Messina, Arezzo, Crotone e Avellino) sono, a diverso titolo, entrate nelle intercettazioni fatte dai Carabinieri del nucleo operativo di via in Selci di Roma (su delega dei pm Giuseppe Narducci e Filippo Beatrice).

I REATI Per tre di queste società si parla apertamente di frode sportiva, per le altre sei si tratterebbe solo della prova di un dominio assoluto di Luciano Moggi nell’organizzazione della campagna trasferimenti. Tre squadre, comunque, rischierebbero tanto (i loro nomi restano per ora confusi nel lotto dei nove, ma uno è presumibilmente quello della Juventus). Non solo per la giustizia ordinaria, quanto, e maggiormente, per quella sportiva dal momento (e potrebbe già essere la prossima settimana) che una parte consistente delle intercettazioni e il decreto di chiusura dell’inchiesta, approderanno in Federcalcio. Nel loro caso si tratta di responsabilità diretta, in quanto dirigenti con ampi poteri di firma. Sarebbero loro ad essere coinvolti nelle telefonate con Luciano Moggi. In qualche caso interverrebbero anche pressioni politiche per favorire questa o quella società. Le stesse pressioni che sarebbero emerse anche nelle intercettazioni della Procura di Torino, soprattutto da parte di esponenti del passato Governo. Intercettazioni (registrate sulle utenze di Luciano Moggi, sei telefoni di cui due cellulari sloveni) che però nel trasferimento delle carte alla Federcalcio e alla Procura di Roma, sono state «emendate». «Nessun interesse ai fini dell’inchiesta», trapela da Torino, ma quell’indagine sarebbe anche stata frettolosamente archiviata.
GLI ALTRI INDAGATI Intanto trapela che anche l’ex presidente federale Franco Carraro è sul punto di essere iscritto nel registro degli indagati. Con lui anche l’altro ex designatore Paolo Bergamo. Sono nomi che vanno ad aggiungersi a quelli dei soci della Gea Alessandro Moggi, Chiara Geronzi, Riccardo Calleri e Franco Zavaglia; al dipendente della stessa società Tommaso Cellini (non è un socio come riportato erroneamente ieri); all’arbitro internazionale Massimo De Santis e all’altro ex designatore Pierluigi Pairetto. Questi ultimi due, insieme a Carraro e Bergamo al momento non sono ancora stati raggiunti da un avviso di garanzia che sarebbe comunque in arrivo, nonostante le smentite provenienti ieri sera dalla Procura di Napoli. In particolare, gli ultimi due nomi che si sono aggiunti nel registro degli indagati, Carraro e Bergamo, sarebbero finiti sotto inchiesta per via di una telefonata nella quale si sarebbero scambiati «consigli» per un turno di campionato con al centro dell’attenzione un match particolarmente atteso e la sua relativa designazione arbitrale, senza che però si sia mai messo in discussione l’esito della gara. Il «suggerimento» dell’ex numero uno di via Allegri all’ex designatore affinché faccia in modo che per una partita delicata «non ci siano problemi». Nella serata di ieri, comunque, la Procura di Napoli si è premurata di smentire eventuali iscrizioni, ma alla Gazzetta risulta chiaramente che si tratterebbe solo di un ritardo temporale.
LA COMBRICCOLA Massimo De Santis sarebbe il «coordinatore» di un gruppo di arbitri che in qualche modo risulterebbero legati alla Gea. A queste conclusioni sarebbero arrivati i pm napoletani leggendo le corpose relazioni presentate dai carabinieri di Roma. Al termine di una stagione intera di intercettazioni, le «pressioni» del fischietto internazionale sui suoi colleghi avrebbero convinto gli inquirenti a iscriverlo prima nel registro degli indagati e tra qualche giorno a farlo seguire dall’avviso di garanzia (con lui almeno un’altra cinquantina di persone). Ieri mattina De Santis si è presentato in Procura a Napoli ed è stato ricevuto dal Procuratore capo Giovandomenico Lepore, per chiedere chiarimenti sulle notizie di stampa relative ad un suo coinvolgimento nell'inchiesta sulla Gea World avviata dai magistrati napoletani e in particolare sulle indiscrezioni relative alla iscrizione nel registro degli indagati. Secondo quanto si è appreso Lepore gli avrebbe riferito di non potere in questa fase delle indagini fornirgli alcuna informazione. De Santis è andato via senza incontrare i pm Beatrice e Narducci.
ALTRE TELEFONATE Intanto ieri si diffondeva la voce di intercettazioni che riguarderebbero il commissario tecnico della Nazionale Marcello Lippi. Si tratterebbe di una telefonata tra Lippi e Moggi che gli inquirenti avrebbero ritenuto inutile ai fini dell’inchiesta, non essendoci nessun elemento tale da richiamare interesse. E come Lippi, altri nomi sono circolati nel marasma delle lunghe giornate napoletane.
A TORINO Intanto la Procura di Torino sta valutando, dopo l’incontro avuto con i magistrati napoletani, se riaprire in qualche modo l’inchiesta. Sarebbe soprattutto la necessità di dare un seguito agli atti di cui sono venuti in possesso: le telefonate fatte dai dirigenti della Juventus a tre funzionari degli uffici giudiziari di Torino. Telefonate che coinciderebbero anche con il periodo nel quale Antonio Giraudo e Riccardo Agricola erano sotto giudizio per doping.
