Rich men and motors
By Chris Charles
Not content with having the most expensive squad in the Premiership, Chelsea are also lording it in the car park. The average motor parked outside Stamford Bridge costs £104,000 - or around a week's wages for John Terry, if you prefer. Arsenal are next in the car wars table, with a typical Gooner's wheels costing £17,000 less than their west London rivals, while Liverpool and Manchester United predictably make up the top four.
The big BMW X5 - 'Chelsea Tractor' to you and I - is the most popular choice of vehicle in the Premiership. Twenty two players, including Terry and Sol Campbell, use the tough off-roader to cope with the treacherous terrain found in Fulham and Hampstead. Thierry Henry favours the Lincoln Navigator - plenty of va-va voom there - and can justifiably put a sticker in his back window reading: "My other car's a Mercedes".
MOST EXPENSIVE CAR PARK
1. Chelsea - £104, 835
2. Arsenal - £87,652
3. Liverpool - £86,297
4. Man Utd - £82,535
5. Birmingham - £80,398
6. Fulham - £69,957
7. Newcastle - £67,814
8. Aston Villa - £63,396
With the World Cup around the corner, it's good to see many England stars are buying British, with David Beckham, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole all plumping for the classic Aston Martin. Ryan Giggs also has one in his garage, but sadly he won't be driving it to Germany.
The study, by Nuts magazine, also names Chelsea as the pace kings of the Premiership, with players' cars boasting an average top speed of 192mph. Birmingham, somewhat surprisingly, come in second at 172mph - but they're going to need more than a fast car to make a successful getaway from the relegation trap door.
