"NarniaWeb reports that according to a source at Disney who requested anonymity "Prince Caspian", the second story in the Chronicles of Narnia, has been greenlit for a December 2007 theatrical release. Disney was hoping for a $60 million opening weekend for "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and since the film's opening exceeded their expectation they are moving forward."

Echt belachelijk dat er zoveel tijd tussen films zit. Met harry potter ook al; tegen de tijd dat de meeste films gemaakt zijn kunnen de hoofdrolspelers er niet meer aan mee doen omdat ze te oud zijn
Bovendien, waarom zou je twee jaar wachten (behalve dan om ook optimaal te kunnen profiteren van de dvd release en overige verkopen); ik zie liever ieder jaar een film uitkomen..

"Lion, Witch & Wardrobe' helmer Andrew Adamson is set to return to the director's chair again having just signed a $10+ million deal to helm "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" according to the trades today.
Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media are moving ahead with the sequel with the principal cast all coming back, no surprise considering the first film has so far earned $637.8 million worldwide. Production is scheduled to begin this year with an eye toward a Christmas 2007 release.
In "Caspian", the four Pevensie siblings are pulled back into the land of Narnia, where many centuries have passed since they left. The colorful creatures of Narnia have been driven away by the evil king Miraz and they must help restore rightful young heir Prince Caspian (Miraz's nephew) to the throne.

Prince Caspian has been found and he's a hottie.
According to The Times Online, 26-year-old British actor Ben Barnes will be playing the title role in Disney's upcoming Narnia sequel "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian".
Barnes had been playing the sexually manipulative Dakin in the British National Theatre's production of "The History Boys" since December last year.
This week he surprised them by saying that he had been offered a three-film deal to play Caspian and was leaving right away - before his contract was due.
As a result the production has been left in the lurch with actor Jamie King, the previous theatre run's Dakin, flown in from Los Angeles to take over. National Theatre are said to be considering a lawsuit over breach of contract.
Filming is due to begin this month in New Zealand. The movie is released in cinemas next May.

Walden Media's Bob Beltz talked with Infuze Magazine about the production of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and confirmed much of the same crew from "Lion, Witch & The Wardrobe" will be back behind-the-scenes.
Story wise he says that "everything that is in the book will be in the film" but due to its somewhat different structure, the order of some scenes need to be re-arranged.
He also talked about plans for the future of the franchise. Seems that the studio plans to release the next three films in the series annually from now on.
Each film has almost six months of shooting followed by a nearly year of post-production. To fit the schedule, shooting will begin on the next film when the current film goes into post.
Thus "Caspian" will shoot from February-August for a May 2008 release, "Voyager of the Dawn Treader" will shoot starting very late 2007 or early 2008 for a Summer 2009 release, and "The Silver Chair" very late 2008/early 2009 shoot for a Summer 2010 release.

Voor wie de hoop heeft opgegeven ooit nog een tweede Narnia-film te zien, heeft Disney goed nieuws. Er komen er nog zes.
Dat lijkt een boude bewering voor een studio die een gat van drie jaar tussen The Cronicles of Narnia 1 en 2 heeft laten vallen. Maar Prince Caspian wordt volgend jaar mei in de Amerikaanse bioscopen verwacht, en juli in Nederland. En vervolgens wil Disney elk jaar met mei een nieuwe aflevering lanceren. Dat maakte de studio dit weekend bekend. Dit betekent dat er tegelijkertijd aan meerdere films zal moeten worden gewerkt. Wat in het geval van de Narnia-serie minder lastig is dan bij bijvoorbeeld Harry Potter, omdat de verschillen tussen de boeken zoveel groter zijn. Nummer drie wordt in elk geval The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, onder regie van Michael Apted.

Ik zag gisteren een poster met een andere naam voor de film. Iets met een reusachtig waterpaard ofzo? Een soort Loch Ness beest?

De gedachte aan zes nieuwe Narnia films is al niet zo prettig maar het idee dat er nu ook nog zes Epic movies kunnen komen maakt de ramp compleet.
