Lotito receives death threats

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has been the subject of death threats, it emerged on Tuesday.

Lotito appeared before a judge today to produce evidence in the form of a series of letters and documents making threats to his life.

The Biancocelesti chief has been subjected to a number of jeers and taunts from certain factions of Lazio supporters over recent weeks, but it is not thought that they are related to the death threats.

As well as letters, Lotito has also received anonymous phone calls of a menacing nature, the details of which were also related to judge Italo Ormanni in the presence of his lawyer in Rome this afternoon.

Viola want Toni for keeps

Fiorentina intend to tie Luca Toni to a new contract that will keep him at the Viola until the end of his playing days, President Andrea Della Valle explained today.

Toni has been nothing short of sensational in his first season with the Gigliati.

An extraordinary haul of goals has seen him score 21 times in as many Serie A matches and he has rapidly transformed into the symbol of Coach Cesare Prandelli’s resurgent side.

The Italy striker has – with the exception of Palermo fans – also won over the Italian public, who yesterday voted him as the winner of the prestigious Telegatto award.

The equivalent of Sporting Personality of the Year, Toni beat motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi and figure-skating sensation Valentina Vezzali to take the popularity prize.

As he collected the Telegatto in Rome, Toni received praise, among others, from Milan President Silvio Berlusconi – who turned down the opportunity to sign the powerful centre-forward in the summer.

With Barcelona also having been linked with Tonigol, Della Valle has decided to persuade Florence’s successor to Gabriel Batistuta’s throne to extend his current deal at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

"Luca belongs to this city and is therefore not for sale," he said. "His contract with us expires in 2009, but I don’t think we’ll have any problems renewing it.

"Our intention is to keep him in Florence until the end of his career."

Burdisso ving Di Canio op met een block op het middenveld en terwijl het spel verder liep, ging Di Canio nogal ongepast verhaal halen.

Echt meppen werd het net niet, daarvoor waren te veel spelers er snel bij, en nota bene Mancini moest Burdisso weghalen, want die was ook door het lint en wou Di Canio te lijf gaan.

Direct daarna lieten de Laziale op de tribune zich overigens weer eens van hun beste kant zien door de donkere spelers van Inter met oerwoudgeluiden te begeleiden. Triest dat zulk sneu volk op de tribune nog eerder aangespoord dan afgeremd wordt door hun sterspeler.
