Boston is already in a corner with him. If they had dealt him at the deadline, they had a much stronger bargaining position, but now Theo is screwed. They want Manny out of Boston, and he wants out to. He Now has gainned that veto power. Besides the Mets, there might be only one or two teams with the interest to try and get Manny, but non of that matters if he doesn't want to get trade there. Manny wants to come to New York, and Omar is in the drivers seat on this one. I don't foresee Omar giving up much for Manny - especially if we are going to be taking on the entire $ of the contract.
I think names like Floyd and/or Cameron will be talked about, and not a bluechipper like Milledge.

why wouldn't anyone give Manny an extension? does anyone know how many HR's and hits this guy has? 435 as of now, and 1922 htis. I mean, come on, who doesn't wanna see this guy hit his 500th and 600th HRs as Met? It's not impossible that if we extended his current contract, granted not at the current rate, say like three years, he could possibly hit his 700th as a Met. Think about it, lets say Manny averages 30 HR for the next six years, which is kinda of a low number, but a fair one considering his age. That gives him 180 more HR's and 615 total. Now say he averages 40 the next three years, which I think he definitely will, and then 30 the next 3 years, which i think is a highly likely scenario. That puts him at 210 and 645 total. I think its even like that if we were to extend his contract three years, he would end up with more like 650 or 660. and you tellin me that if he got that close to 700 as a Met, we wouldn't extend his contract another couple years so he can do it? I mean look at Sheff, he's belting 40 at 37 and there's no reason to believe he'll hit less than 35 next year, at 38. manny's a better hitter, so what makes you think he wouldn't put up those same numbers, if not better? not to mention the fact we could build our new stadium around his liking, so it will be easier on right handed hitters. Just picture it, we could extend Pedro's contract a couple years and have Manny chasing 6 and 700 HR's and 3000 hits while Pedro chases 250 and 300 wins. you wanna talk about owning NY and winning championships, there you go.
