Zoro receives Lazio apology

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has apologised to Messina’s Marco Zoro for the racist abuse he endured at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

The Ivory Coast defender was targeted by some sections of the Lazio crowd during the home team’s 1-0 win.

Lotito went into the Sicilian changing rooms after the game to make his apology to the player and his club.

"I had to physically push him into the changing rooms because he was that angry, I thought he might do something," stated teammate Salvatore Aronica.

"I just don’t understand why some fans think it necessary to make racist chants towards players."

Lucarelli brothers leave Livorno?

Cristiano Lucarelli was the heart and soul of Livorno, but he and his brother look set to walk out and now the Capocannoniere is heading for Spurs.

The striker was on target in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Lecce and confessed after the game that he was considering offers from Tottenham and Newcastle United. His price-tag is believed to have reached £6m after he topped the Serie A scorers’ charts with 24 goals last term.


The situation had calmed over the weekend, but this afternoon degenerated wildly with news that Lucarelli had skipped the training session and called a Press Conference for this evening. It's expected he'll announce his departure from the Stadio Armando Picchi.


It is a double blow for the Amaranto fans, as today Cristiano’s brother Alessandro – also a born and bred Livorno supporter – completed a permanent move to Reggina.


“Livorno President Aldo Spinelli waged war on me, despite the fact I scored four goals,” said the 28-year-old defender. “He tried to limit how much time I spent on the field and I was put in a position where I had to leave.


There have also been some other transfer moves this afternoon, as Empoli have signed Fiorentina benchwarmer Christian Riganò on loan. The 31-year-old forward was a key figure in the Viola’s promotion from Serie C2 to the top flight, scoring 57 goals in 94 League appearances, but failed to find space over the last year.


Inter have captured Piacenza goalkeeper Paolo Orlandoni, putting further pressure on Francesco Toldo and new Brazilian shot-stopper Julio Cesar. It’s a return for the 33-year-old, who grew up in the Nerazzurri youth system.


Lecce added to their arsenal of attacking midfielders with the arrival of Gennaro Del Vecchio. The 27-year-old was picked up by Sampdoria following the financial collapse of Perugia and has now been loaned out to the Stadio Via del Mare outfit.


Napoli have signed Parma youth product Gaetano Grieco, who spent last season on loan at Foggia, on a permanent deal.

Langella fury at Arrigoni return

Antonio Langella and a group of Cagliari fans are furious at Coach Daniele Arrigoni’s return to the club, while Cristiano Lucarelli continues his feud with Livorno.

“I thought I was not for sale, but Arrigoni told me he wanted another centre-forward to play between Mauro Esposito on the right and David Suazo out on the left,” explained the wide man. “There was clearly no room for me here in his plans.”


Langella burst on to the scene with the Sardinians last season, scoring six goals in 32 appearances with Arrigoni on the bench and even earning three caps with the Italian national side.


The Coach had walked away in the summer, but replacement Attilio Tesser was sacked after just one match and Arrigoni returned.


“I’ve been lied to constantly,” added a furious Langella in today’s Press Conference. “When I renewed my contract, I was told by President Massimo Cellino that he couldn’t give me more than the salary cap of £300,000, only to later discover that wasn’t true. I feel like I’ve been taken for a ride.”


Langella isn’t the only one who is unhappy at Arrigoni’s sudden turnaround, as a group of Cagliari fans broke in to the Assemini training ground today and insulted the tactician.


The situation at Livorno is also degenerating, as Cristiano Lucarelli handed in his captain’s armband in protest at President Aldo Spinelli’s actions.


The Capocannoniere held a Press Conference yesterday evening pointing out that he was rejecting a move to Tottenham because he loves his hometown club, but that he felt ‘betrayed’ by the President.


“Spinelli is trying to pin the blame for this on my agent, Carlo Pallavicino, and he is picking on one of the few good men in football,” slammed Lucarelli today. “From now on I will not be speaking to the Press and probably won’t lift this self-imposed ban until the end of the season.”

Why Inter missed out on Jemmali…

Inter failed to sign Bordeaux right-back David Jemmali on Wednesday because the player was in training when the Italian outfit called!

The 30-year-old was targeted by the Serie A side as they looked for a temporary replacement for the injured Javier Zanetti.

But the Moroccan-born player was unable to discuss the move because he was training when the call came through, and the transfer market in Italy closed at 7pm on Wednesday, as opposed to midnight in France.

"It’s just incredible," said the Bordeaux stalwart. "It’s not some little village in the south of France that contacted me. It’s Inter! A big club!

"Just after 7pm - following training - I had my agent on the phone. He told me that while I was training Inter had made contact and were very interested in signing me.

"Unfortunately, we weren’t able to talk about it at the time."

Bordeaux President Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed that the rumour had reached his office.

"No one from Inter contacted me," he said. "But it’s true that around 6pm I did hear something on the grapevine to the effect that David could interest Inter.

"At any rate, I’m very happy he’s staying here."

Jemmali, who has been at Bordeaux since 1997, was not overly disappointed at missing out on the move.

"I don’t have any regrets," he said. "Bordeaux’s a club that I love and I’m more than happy here."
