August 17, 2005 - Today at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Microsoft unveiled the price of their upcoming next-generation system.


The new 'box will come in two flavors, a core and a fully-loaded model, and will carry two separate price points.
The Xbox 360 core system -- priced at $299.99 in the United States, ?299.99 in Europe and £209.99 in the U.K. -- will come with the console, a wired controller, faceplate, standard audio-visual cable and an Xbox Live Silver membership. An Xbox Live Silver membership allows you to create a user id, download game content, access the Xbox 360 marketplace and gives Live users the ability to chat with friends. It does not, however, allow users to play games online. To do this, Silver members must upgrade to a Gold membership.

The Xbox 360 fully-loaded system -- priced at $399.99 in the United States, ?399.99 in Europe and £279.99 in the U.K. -- will come complete with the console, a wireless controller, a 20GB detachable hard drive, a faceplate, headset, component HD audio-visual cables, an Ethernet cable, Xbox Live Silver membership and, for a limited time, an Xbox 360 media remote.

The Xbox 360 will launch in North America, Europe and Japan this holiday season. Expect to hear more about the Japanese launch and pricing at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, which takes place in mid-September

LEIPZIG, Germany — Aug. 17, 2005 — Ending weeks of speculation about which upcoming video game platform will give gamers the most bang for their buck, today at the German Games Convention, Microsoft Corp. revealed that consumers can get their hands on Xbox 360™ — the most powerful and feature-packed next-generation video game and entertainment system — for as little as $299.99 U.S./€299.99/£209.99 starting this holiday season. Zo krijg je nooit bugvrije xbox titels. Als je online wilt spelen (wat toch wel de grootste aantrekkingskracht is voor de xbox) moet je een hardeschijf hebben voor updates. Als je de updates niet hebt kun je niet spelen.

De Xbox 360 wordt met 300-400 euro geeneens duur bij de launch en maar mensen zeiken over de prijs. Wil je weer terug naar PS2 launchprijzen en Neo Geo spelprijzen enzo?
Wie zegt dat je een faceplate moet kopen? En als je het vergelijkt met een frontje van de gemiddelde Nokia is die faceplate de helft, dus ook niet duur. Blu-ray , als er nog zoveel twijfel is bij grote filmuitgevers wil ik mijn geld niet zetten op Blu-ray, Sony wil maar al te graag dat het een standaard wordt net zoals hun Minidisc en UMD, maar succesvol zijn daar niet mee.

De komende 10 jaar, yeah right. Je kunt ook 10 jaar met je PS2 doen, binnen 10 jaar heeft Sony zeker wel een nieuwe console op de markt gebracht. Ze zijn alleen van plan games voor de PS3 te blijven ontwikkelen, maar ja fifa 2005 is zelfs nog voor de PS1 uitgekomen, dus had je dan ook geen PS2 hoeven kopen.
Blue-Ray is mooi, maar zoals je zelf zegt zal de PS3 een stuk duurder worden dan de Xbox 360. Microsoft heeft de Xbox goedkoper gelaunched dan Sony de PS2, terwijl de Xbox technisch superieur is. Nu launchen ze nog goedkoper dan ze bij de Xbox deden en het is nog steeds niet goed.
