Luca Toni has completed his move to Fiorentina after Palermo yesterday accepted a £7.2m bid for the striker.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a Viola contract that will tie him to the outfit until June 2009.

Toni, a player who scored 20 League goals for the Sicilians last term, will net just over £1m-a-season.

"He was our principal transfer market objective," said delighted Fiorentina boss Cesare Prandelli.

Toro & Messina barred from Serie A

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have today expelled Torino and Messina from Serie A due to their financial problems.

Whispers in Italy over the last few days had suggested that the pair did not meet the requirements needed to be registered for the new campaign, and the FIGC confirmed the news on Friday.

However, today’s decision is not final and all clubs who have been barred have three appeal processes that they could still pursue.

"I'm not optimistic but I'm realistic," stated Torino President Attilio Romero, whose side won promotion last term.

"I think that we have all of the tools in hand and all of the prerequisites to remain in Serie A."

Messina, who comfortably survived the drop last season, are also confident that they have the necessary paperwork to resolve their problems.

"I knew this decision was coming," said Messina President Pietro Franza. "But I want to underline that we have great faith in the bodies who we will now turn to.

"We are certain that we can continue with our adventure in Serie A."

Bologna, following their relegation, are in pole position to replace Messina should today’s judgement stand.

Torino’s supposed exit would allow Treviso, who finished fifth in Serie B, to take their place because Perugia – who lost to Toro in the Play-Off Final – have their own problems.

The Umbrian outfit and Salernitana are currently not registered for the Second Division, while a host of Serie C sides are in real trouble too.

It’s unclear at this stage when we will know the final line-ups of each Division and therefore the fixtures for the new campaign. Serie A is set to kick-off on August 28.

Il Consiglio di stato č l'ultimo grado di giudizio amministrativo. Dopo il suo pronunciamento (la data non č stata ancora fissata), le squadre escluse non hanno ulteriori possibilitą d'appello.
LODO PETRUCCI
Ecco come si accede al lodo Petrucci. L’art. 52, punto 6, dice: "In caso di non ammissione al campionato di A, B o C1 di una societą che costituisce espressione della tradizione sportiva italiana e con un radicamento nel territorio di appartenenza comprovato da una continuativa partecipazione, anche in serie diverse ai campionati professionistici (dalla A alla C2) negli ultimi 10 anni, ovvero da una partecipazione per almeno 25 anni nell’ambito del calcio professionistico, la Figc, sentito il sindaco della cittą interessata, puņ attribuire ad altra societą il titolo sportivo inferiore di una categoria rispetto a quello di pertinenza della societą non ammessa". Alla nuova societą non potrą partecipare chi ha ricoperto cariche sociali nella societą non ammessa nč parenti di questi.

Genoa and Venezia charged

Genoa’s Serie A status is in serious doubt after they and Venezia were charged with sporting fraud.

The two clubs have been under investigation following Genoa’s win over the Laguna outfit on the last day of the season, which ensured the port side’s return to the top-flight.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) released a statement on Sunday which stated that Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi, his son Matteo and director Stefano Capozucca have been accused of "collaborating to achieve sporting fraud."

Venezia owner Franco Dal Cin, director general Michele Dal Cin and fellow director Giuseppe Pagliara – plus players Martin Lejsal and Massimo Borgobello – have also been charged.

The two clubs have also been charged with "direct responsibility" as part of the ongoing probe.

The enquiry was launched after allegations of match fixing regarding the 3-2 win over Venezia last term.

That after police acquired recordings of numerous telephone conversations between players and officials as evidence.

Both clubs deny any wrongdoing.

If found guilty, Genoa could be handed an array of punishments ranging from a fine, points deduction or possible exclusion from Serie A.

Ballack to the future

Inter have reportedly convinced Michael Ballack to leave Bayern Munich for the San Siro outfit in the summer of 2006.

The German international will be a free agent next July and he has already hinted that he is looking for a new club.

"I am very happy here but I think the time has arrived for me to try playing for a great European club," he recently stated. "It is a question of stimulus."

Stories in the peninsula on Monday morning claim that the Nerazzurri have already struck a deal with the central midfielder.

The former Bayer Leverkusen sensation, who has spent the last five years with Bayern, has been tempted by Inter’s three-year contract offer.

Ballack, who will be hoping to lead his country to World Cup glory next summer, has been linked with Inter in the past.

It is believed that Ballack has been targeted given that Juan Sebastian Veron has made no secret of his desire to return to Argentina in 12 months.

Nerazzurri fans will be hoping that Ballack can make as a big an impact as Lothar Matthaus. The legendary German helped the club win their last Scudetto in 1989.
