Q and not U disband
While band breakups over ideological differences, drugs, and/or women might make for great VH-1 broadcasts, sometimes bands just feel they've run their course and are content to leave things as they are and remain friends. This is the case with Q and Not U who, in an email earlier today, have announced their disbandment. "After seven years, hundreds of shows, thousands of miles, 46 states, four continents, three albums, only one flat-tire and countless nicknames for Shawn Brackbill, Q and Not U is disbanding," wrote band member Chris Richards.
"With all of your support, we feel that we've reached all of our shared goals as Q and Not U and we're ready to move on to other projects in life. We all hope to play music together again someday, but we feel that it's a beautiful and natural time to bring this band to a close."
Q and Not U formed after Richards and John Davis left the band Elusive. They were joined by Harris Klahr and released an EP, Hot and Informed in 1999. They were signed by Dischord and release their debut full-length, No Kill No Beep Beep, in 2000. Since then, they have released two other LPs, most recently Power in 2004.

Hier baal ik wel van... Vooral de tweede CD Different Damage was een hele goede plaat, en alhoewel ik niet helemaal enthousiast was over de richting die de band was opgegaan bij hun meest recente album, blijft dit nieuws erg jammer. Hopelijk komen er nog een paar mooie nieuwe bandjes uit voort.

En je hoeft geen nieuwe account aan te maken, trouwens; je kunt via de zustersite http://www.last.fm alle 'foute' entries gewoon verwijderen via je profile editor.

Responsible for some of the most perfect guitar pop songs since Rivers Cuomo painted his walls grey, it's understandable that people are itching for news about their next album, dubbed Twin Cinema, which is due out on Matador Records on August 23rd.
According to a post from de facto front man A.C. Newman on Matador’s Web site, the new album draws inspiration from "The Moody Blues, Tubeway Army, Wings, always Wings, never The Beatles, Eno of course... Modern English, middle period post-Gabriel Genesis, The Stranglers... we're still trying to find a way to insert some dub/white reggae in the mix, just as an intellectual exercise, to see if we can do it without being dropped from the label."
Such an erratic set of influences may seem strange, but then The New Pornos' M.O. is a little unusual itself. Once the songs are written by a core group of band members -- composed of A.C. Newman, Todd Fancey, Blaine Thurier, and John Collins -- several other "casual" members show up to help spice up the recordings. These guests perhaps most notably include Neko Case and Daniel Bejar. Any loyal TMT reader should recognize those names. After the band's 2003 release, Electric Version [TMT Review], a slew of Pornographers dropped solo efforts, each to wide acclaim. Newman put out The Slow Wonder, which demonstrated where the New Pornographers' sugary guitar hooks come from. Fancey unleashed an eponymous effort that displayed his experimental leanings while hewing closely to FM revivalism. Case released an alt.country outing, The Tigers Have Spoken. Bejar was the man behind Destroyer's Your Blues. If a band can be judged as a sum of its parts, one could say that the New Pornographers are in pretty good shape.
The band has also announced a few shows, presumably to warm up for a larger tour in support of the new album. Fear God and dread nought:
