If Kaka signs for Manchester City, it will be a disaster for all concerned and for football as a whole. Not only will it make nouveau riche sides with bored rich owners think they can just come and buy up stars as if they were browsing the Louvre for something to hang in the hallway, but it would also cut 99 per cent of clubs out of the future transfer market. Paying anyone that sum of money is ludicrous, but City aren’t the real targets of my rage today. I am looking straight at Milan.

Kaka is not one of those players willing to throw a solid rapport away for the sake of cash. Regardless of how much City offered in wages, he would never demand a transfer for filthy lucre alone. He certainly wouldn’t go to Eastlands for the prestige of fighting against relegation and the hope of maybe in a few years qualifying for the Champions League. Even Ronaldinho turned them down! There is no reason on earth why Kaka would push for this transfer to go through. So why did Milan provide him with one?

In holding negotiations with Man City and letting him talk to the club, Milan have tacitly acknowledged they don’t really want him around. This, for someone who consistently rejected more tempting proposals from Real Madrid and Chelsea, must be heart-breaking. Ricky did not ask for any of this, but the Rossoneri have slapped him in the face, betraying all that talk of the side being “a family” the moment a new Brazilian walks through the door. Shame on you.

I understand many of you will point to the practicalities, the offer Milan cannot refuse, as with Ł107m they could rebuild an entirely new squad and begin a new era at San Siro with world class young talent. I heard similar statements at the time Andriy Shevchenko was sold for Ł30m and look how that turned out… Juventus could do it when they handed Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid and used the cash for Gigi Buffon, Pavel Nedved and Lilian Thuram, but the Diavolo executives have shown they will always nibble stale bread in order to splash out on champagne.

Of course, Kaka doesn’t have to accept this step down – way down – in his career, but the way Milan have gone about this means the end is nigh. If he remains, then he will be fully aware the club no longer wants him despite his proven talent, work rate and loyalty. So come the summer when Real Madrid and Chelsea come knocking again, this time he’ll do what these sides always wanted and push the move through, presumably at a far lower price than Manchester City are currently offering. And, frankly, Milan will deserve it.

Florentino Pérez, de favoriet om medio juni tot nieuwe Real Madrid-voorzitter te worden verkozen, zou een regeling met AC Milan hebben gesloten over de overgang van Kaká (foto) naar Bernabéu.

De krant Marca publiceert maandag over wat de transfer van het jaar moet worden. Milan zou zich schadeloos stellen voor zestig miljoen euro. Het akkoord is gesloten tijdens een ontmoeting tussen Pérez en Adriano Galliani, de vice-voorzitter van AC Milan, op 16 maart.

Marca schrijft wel dat de overeenkomst niet in werking treedt als meerdere clubs gaan bieden op Kaká, wiens contract bij de Rossoneri tot 2013 loopt. In januari ketste een wereldrecordtransfer (110 miljoen euro) naar Manchester City af: Kaká gaf toen gehoor aan smeekbedes van tifosi om te blijven. Naar verluidt waagt City in de zomer een nieuwe poging en treedt ook Chelsea in de ring voor de bijna 27-jarige Braziliaan.

Pérez diende tussen 2000 en 2006 al als voorzitter van Real. Zijn eerste periode werd ingeluid met de komst van Luis Figo, de eerste van een reeks ‘buitenaardsen.’ Pérez stelde zich nog niet officieel kandidaat voor de verkiezingen, die op 7 of 14 juni worden gehouden. (MA)

De Braziliaan Kaka is niet van plan AC Milan aan het einde van dit seizoen te verlaten. De 27-jarige spelmaker wordt in verschillende media gelinkt aan een overgang naar Manchester United of Real Madrid, maar Kaka wil zijn huidge verbintenis bij Milan uitdienen. "Ik sta nog tot 2013 onder contract en ik wil deze verbintenis uitdienen. Alleen als Milan een ander besluit neemt, zal ik mij daarbij neerleggen."

"Op dit moment", zo vervolgt Kaka tegenover Aujourd'hui Sports. "Voer ik met niemand besprekingen en daar heb ik op dit moment ook geen behoefte aan."

Kaka stond in januari ook in de schijnwerpers van het kapitaal krachtige Manchester City. Een overgang naar Engeland ging echter niet door, maar de Braziliaan geeft wel toe dat hij het aanbod in overweging heeft genomen. "Ik heb er over nagedacht, maar het woog niet op tegen de liefde die ik voor Milan voel. Met mijn familie heb ik de voors en tegens afgewogen en dit viel in het voordeel van Milan uit. Natuurlijk ging het om veel geld, maar dat is voor mij niet het enige dat telt. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat ik met mijn huidige club nog titels kan winnen. Daarom heb ik het schip City laten varen."
