AFC Ajax and tournament-organizer The International Event Partnership (IEP) have signed a new three-year contract to ensure the continuation of the prestigious Amsterdam Tournament. The extended agreement means that, by 2008, football fans at the Amsterdam ArenA will have been thrilled by the world’s best clubs for nine successive summers. In this year's edition Arsenal, Boca Juniors, FC Porto and host Ajax will be present on Friday 29 and Sunday 31 July. On top of the regular total weekend attendance of over 90,000 spectators, there are television broadcasts to over 130 countries to a mind-blowing 400 million-plus viewers, which demonstrates that The Amsterdam Tournament has no equal as a single event. David Broomhall, Chief Executive of tournament organizer IEP, said: “We are obviously delighted to extend our agreement with the Tournament’s host club, Ajax, as they are truly one of the finest football organisations in the world. The tournament’s standing in world football is a reflection of the work that the IEP team has put in, to developing the four-team tournament structure, which has not only been enthusiastically received by those attending and watching around the world but by the participating clubs themselves and I am sure the tournament will continue to go from strength to strength.” Ajax see the mix of styles as vital pre-season preparation, and Chief Executive Officer, Arie van Eijden, said: “Right before the start of our League, the tournament is a great opportunity for our fans and the staff to see where we are. Every year, we have the chance to play against world-class teams before a full house almost every evening. The supporters really love this long tradition and, needless to say, we are very pleased with this new contract.” IEP’s glowing worldwide reputation for the organisation and management of international football tournaments has led to the introduction, in 2006, of their ‘World Series’, with major sporting events scheduled to take place in the USA, South Africa, China and Dubai.
