THQ and Relic Entertainment Announce The OutfitTM for Xbox 360TM

CALABASAS HILLS, Calif., May 16: THQ Inc. (Nasdaq: THQI) and its award winning development studio Relic Entertainment today announced The OutfitTM, an explosive squad-based action game for the Xbox 360TM video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Combining intense squad-based combat and easy to use strategic gameplay elements with the cinematic intensity of a blockbuster movie, The Outfit is a lethal combination of high action and strategy. Set within war ravaged Europe during World War II, the game takes players behind enemy lines, battling the Nazi War Machine through a variety of larger than life combat missions. Scheduled to release holiday 2005, the game will make its public debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) May 18-20 in THQ Booth #1046.

"The Outfit is a perfect example of a title that is only possible with Xbox 360 technology," said Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "Relic's unique brand of large-scale explosive action and field-level strategy easily differentiates The Outfit from any other war title released on any system to date."

"Visceral combat experiences have always been a big part of our games at Relic," said Ron Moravek, general manager, Relic Entertainment. "The team is having a blast creating a squad-based action game that allows us to incorporate some of the strategic elements we're best known for. Delivering this level of gameplay with surround-sound and high-definition capabilities means gamers can look forward to a new level of intensity on the battlegrounds of WWII."

The Outfit allows players the option to choose from three playable squad leader personalities, each with their own specific skills and abilities. With their squad leaders, players will guide two squads of battle-forged soldiers on missions ranging from reconnaissance-and-rescue to search-and-destroy across immensely destructible battlefields. Players can switch between squads at any time and can strategically use squads separately, in tandem or as one super-unit. By engaging in combat with the enemy, players will earn action points that can be used to upgrade their arsenal, order in tanks and many other vehicles, build machinegun nests and anti-tank emplacements or call for air or artillery strikes.

Because of the versatility of Xbox 360, players can experience the cinematic intensity of WWII combat through 12 epic single-player missions or go online with Xbox Live® for a variety of multiplayer modes, including co- op. Taking gaming to the next generation as an Xbox 360 title, The Outfit is high-definition (16:9, 720pHD) with 5.1 Dolby surround-sound.

For more information on The Outfit, please visit www.theoutfitgame.com, which will launch with the game's unveiling at E3 on May 18.

THQ and Volition, Inc. Hit the Streets With Saint's RowTM

Next-Generation Title Takes Template of Open World Genre in New Direction

CALABASAS HILLS, Calif., May 16, 2005: THQ Inc. (Nasdaq: THQI) and critically acclaimed development studio Volition, Inc. today announced Saint's RowTM. An evolution in open world gaming, Saint's Row provides an unprecedented amount of freedom to experience the game as the player sees fit. The game, based in the fictional urban surroundings of Still Water, is action adventure with its core as a third-person shooter. Scheduled to release worldwide on the Xbox 360TM video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in 2005, Saint's Row will make its public debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, CA, May 18.

"We're building Saint's Row on a new proprietary game engine that's going to take our studio to the next level of game design," said Mike Kulas, Volition's founder and president. "The goal is to build a complete sense of dynamic reaction to every action the player takes. In Saint's Row, the player is not forced to follow a linear story in a pseudo-sandbox world. The purpose is to provide choice and freedom as to how the game is played."

"Saint's Row represents an evolution in open world game design and breaks the mold, pushing the genre in a new direction of choice and consequence," added Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "With this title, we'll establish both a new franchise on a next-generation console and a solid foundation for our future projects."

Currently being developed for the Xbox 360, Saint's Row sets the player as a member of the Third Street Saints, a gang trying desperately to take back the streets from three rival gangs that hold the city.

E3's actually quite predictable in a lot of ways you know. And not just in the sense that everything you saw last year will be back either in "a more advanced stage of development" or with a number 2 or 3 on the end. Or a 360. No. It's predictable in lots of other ways too. Here are some of them.

1. Nintendo will claim victory in the first round of the handheld console 'war'. Sony will also claim victory in the first round of the handheld console 'war'. Microsoft will actually literally declare WAR on Sony and Nintendo.

2. Nintendo will produce statistics demonstrating that GameCube is incredibly popular and that you bought one. Nobody will bother to report them.

3. Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime will take some goddamn names. Everyone will bother to report that.

4. In fact, there'll also be lots of talk about who's "number two" from both Nintendo and Microsoft, whereas we'll probably all conclude that they're both taking the number one instead.

5. American journalists will shout like teenage girls at a Backstreet Boys concert whenever anyone says anything even remotely interesting anywhere.

6. European journalists will look on disapprovingly and then write snotty comments about how it brings their journalistic integrity into question. Before rubbing their stomachs through their free T-shirts, adjusting the straps on their free bags and discussing where to quaff free beer that evening.

7. Most net-based E3 coverage will allude to at least one of the following things: booth babes, the overpriced food, hangovers, the noise, the darkness, the lack of seats, that the show will probably be in Las Vegas next year. Probably all of them.

8. Bill Gates will be visible on the show floor at least once. Aged 14 and three-quarters and clutching a bag of pamphlets about data recovery tools.

9. Baywatch actress Angelica Bridges, on hand to promote Singles 2, will be jokingly asked out 487 times.

10. Anyone who meets anyone at the show will initially ask what they think of the show so far. (Except for Tom, who's preferred opening gambit at E3 traditionally proceeds along these lines: "Oh. Kristan's over there.")
