Ian Wright
Ian Wright, MBE (born November 3 1963, Woolwich, England) is a former professional footballer who achieved fame playing as a striker for Crystal Palace, Arsenal and England.

Since his retirement in 2000, he has become a popular media personality, appearing on Match of the Day, where his slightly eccentric and over-the-top style of match analysis (most notably, when covering all games played in Japan during the 2002 World Cup, he wore a kimono in the studio) has gained him equal amounts of praise and derision. He is also a popular presenter having had his own chat show, Friday Night's All Wright, which began in 1998 while Wright was still playing and was noted mainly for the inclusion of a cage of Tottenham Hotspur fans (traditionally, Arsenal and Tottenham are hated rivals). Since then, he has gone on to present programmes such as the National Lottery broadcasts, Friends Like These, radio show Wright & Bright (with old footballing friend and Crystal Palace strike partner Mark Bright), An Audience with Lennox Lewis, and Guinness World Records. He was awarded the MBE in 2000 for services to football.

Ian came to professional football relatively late, signing for Crystal Palace in 1985 at the age of 22. After rejections from Millwall and Brighton, he played for amateur and non-league teams, culminating at Greenwich Borough, where he was spotted by Palace scout Peter Prentice.

At Crystal Palace, he scored twice in the 1990 FA Cup final against Manchester United, having only recently recovered from a broken leg. The eventual score was 3-3, but Palace lost the replay 1-0.

He signed for Arsenal in 1991 for ?2.5m, which was at the time a club record fee. He scored on his debut against Leicester City, and went on to play a major part in the club's success during the 1990s. He is the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

His stepsons, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Bradley Wright-Phillips, currently play for Manchester City F.C.

Wright is also the patron of the African-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust.

Keegan eager to secure next Wright-Phillips
By George Caulkin

MIDWAY through Kevin Keegan’s monologue in praise of Bradley Wright-Phillips, the Manchester City manager stumbled over his words. Discussing the 19-year-old, who scored on his brief debut in the Barclays Premiership on Monday night, Keegan said that a long list of injuries meant that the forward’s big chance had “probably come early”. And then he stopped. “But maybe when you see him, he is ready for it,” he added.
It would not be the first time that Keegan’s mouth has surged ahead of his brain, but then the sharp progress made by Wright-Phillips is forcing people to raise expectations. The joint-top scorer in City’s reserve team last season with 11 goals, he has mustered 12 in the Pontins League this time; a summer graduate from the club’s academy, he is already in talks over a contract extension.

Bradley is the latest progeny of Ian Wright, his natural father, to grasp the headlines. He is the half-brother of Shaun Wright-Phillips (they share the same mother), whose steep rise from City’s youth ranks has brought him England honours, an assertion from Keegan that he has become the best young midfield player “in the world” and inevitable speculation about a mammoth transfer elsewhere.

If his impact, to date, is maintained, Bradley Wright-Phillips may follow a similar pattern. As well as scoring against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, he has made two fleeting appearances in the Carling Cup (he also scored a hat-trick in the reserves against Leeds United last month, sparking gossip about a move to Elland Road) and the effect has been to spur City into action; his present deal expires in June.

“We are talking to him at the moment,” Keegan said and the player himself hopes to remain. “This is the last year of my contract and I am determined to impress,” Wright-Phillips said. “I know whether I stay or not will depend on how well I do and obviously I want my future to be at City. It has been great so far this season getting closer to the first team but I see my job at the moment to keep improving.”

In playing style, Ian is the family member he most resembles. “The beauty is that he doesn’t need to be taught how to finish,” Keegan said. “He is a predator, a natural goalscorer and he reminds me of his Dad, Ian. He makes things out of nothing and scores goals when you don’t expect him to score goals, from impossible positions. He has only been with us a short while but he has impressed with his attitude.”

According to Shaun — four years older than his sibling — Bradley’s development has been far more pronounced than his at a similar age. “Shaun is there already in the Premiership as an inspiration,” Bradley, who has some fairly significant boots to fill, said, but he speaks of that challenge in the understated manner of his brother rather than his father, now a television personality.

“I know there is a lot of expectation on me, given who and what I am trying to follow, but the way I deal with that is not to think about it,” he said. “If I don’t make it, my Dad, my brother and my Mum will not think any less of me. I’ll just keep on doing the best I can and if I do that I’ll have no one to answer to.” Wright-Phillips certainly has a decent pedigree

Son of Arsenal legend Ian and a half brother to the Blues' England international Shaun, Bradley certainly has the pedigree - not to mention the ability - to become a hit in the Premiership.
Dus eerst Truus + onbekende man -> Shaun
Dan Truus + Ian -> Bradley

Vanavond Arsenal - Tottenham.

Als Arsenal niet wint, is Chelsea kampioen of niet?
pi_26498366
Ja, dan is Chelsea kampioen. Hopen dat Arsenal wint, want kampioen worden zonder te spelen is toch altijd een soort van anti-climax.

FA asks for extra European place

The Football Association has asked Uefa to give Liverpool a place in next season's Champions League if they win this year's trophy. As it stands, the FA faces an awkward decision if the Reds triumph but fail to finish fourth in the Premiership. It could award a place to Liverpool but at the expense of the Premiership's fourth-placed side, probably Everton.

An FA spokesman said discussions had begun, but Uefa has so far indicated another place is highly unlikely. Uefa chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson told the Daily Express: "There is no way England can have more than four teams so we would refer it to the English FA to make the decision if it arises.

"But normally I would say that it's more important if you are qualified through your national league position than if you have won the competition." The decision would be made by the FA's main board, in consultation with the professional game board and the Premier League.

Everton are currently four points clear of Liverpool in the Premiership, with a game in hand. Liverpool play Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Het is inderdaad erg suf. Lijkt me wel een leuke pot, Tottenham kan 3 punten ook erg goed gebruiken.
