It's well known that you can crack some massive power figures from Nissan turbo engines - 1000-odd horsepower from RB-series sixes and 700-ish horsepower from SR20 fours - but nobody ever expects the ugly CA18 'boat anchor' to push out the numbers of Dexter's machine. Read it again: 411hp at the wheels on a 30-per-cent-drivetrain-loss Dyno Dynamics from only 1.8-litres.

It's bloody amazing.
Dexter has owned this weapon for around 4 months and can still hardly get over its animalistic performance. And, apparently, neither can anyone else. After giving every traffic light contender a royal pizzling, it's not uncommon for the defeated to roll up at the next set of lights leaning out the window crying, "What the hell have you done to that!" Dexter's at a bit of a loss at this stage, however, coz nobody really knows what kind of black magic has been waved over the CA. Other than a bit of local tuning at Tony Rigoli Performance, the mechanical package is completely as it left Japan.

So what do we know about the mechanicals of this beast?
Well - starting with the plainly obvious - much of the power can be attributed to that over-inflated HKS/Garrett 3037S turbocharger. It's a true monster, which is used to cram in up to 28 psi manifold pressure. Bypassing excess exhaust gasses is an HKS external wastegate equipped with a blow-your-eardrums screamer pipe. The 'used' exhaust gasses are pumped out a 3½-inch Trust exhaust system, with a heat-wrapped front section of pipe to help keep the under bonnet cool.
