In het eerste half jaar wil ik Resi 4, DK:JB en Donkey Konga 2. Twijfel zijn StarFox en MK: Deception. Zelda verwacht ik nog niet in het eerste half jaar

IGN over Viewtiful Joe 2:
quote:
Closing Comments
All sequels should be this fun. Viewtiful Joe 2 conjures the same level of visceral entertainment as the first, while expanding the formula by introducing new moves, enemies and vehicles. The introduction of Joe’s girlfriend, Sylvia, is a great addition that just adds depth to an already deep and thoroughly satisfying game experience. If you hated the first, then don’t bother with this one. But if you’re a normal, healthy human being, then you loved the first one. And if that’s the case, then it looks like it’s time to bust out those red tights and blue mini skirt, because Viewtiful Joe 2 delivers exactly what you want: a super stylish, extremely challenging and riveting time in Movie Land. Recommended to anyone who loves video games. Henshin-a-go-go!
-- Juan Castro

9.0 Presentation
Like the first game, VJ2 is a very polished game featuring a fully realized cartoon world. Great menus and interface.

9.0 Graphics
Very bright and wildly unique. Great effects and style, with smooth animation.

8.5 Sound
Great, cheesy voice work and remixed tunes from the first game make VJ2 feel like home.

9.0 Gameplay
Brilliantly executed 2D brawler chock full of action and humor. Great, mind bending puzzles throughout.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
You'll beat this game several times just because it's so damn fun.

9.0 OVERALL:

En over PoP: Warrior Within:
quote:
November 11, 2004 - Prince of Persia: Warrior Within ships in just a few weeks. As a fan of last year's The Sands of Time, I couldn't wait to get my hands on POP 2. Now, having made it halfway through Warrior Within, I can safely say that I am not disappointed. Though Warrior Within has a darker look and slightly more of a combat focus, it still retains the core gameplay that made Sands of Time one of the best games of 2003.

Several years have passed since the events of The Sands of Time. The Prince, alone and desperate to escape his fate, is hunting down the Empress of Time. Following an attack on his ship (which serves as the tutorial level), the Prince finds himself on the beach of the Island of Time. This is where the remainder of the game takes place, with the Prince exploring the Island in both the past and the present in an attempt to outrun the menacing beast known as the Dahaka and put an end to the Empress of Time.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is once again a relatively even mixture of platforming and combat. The Prince runs along walls, scoots around traps, slides down banners, swings on poles, making his way deeper and deeper into the Island of Time. When not avoiding traps and ascending seemingly unscalable walls, the Prince combats a half-dozen enemies at a time.

While the platform elements haven't seen any refinement, that's okay because they were never broken. There are a lot more timing-based stunts to pull and the Slow Down power will be more necessary than ever. If you've already mastered bouncing against walls to ascend upwards, swinging on bars and then launching off a wall to get to the next bar, then you will have no trouble acclimating to Warrior Within.

Combat is a different story. POP 2 introduces a new free-form combat system that is more advanced than Sands of Time. Being able to dual-wield is a blessing, but for my money, there's nothing better than having a single-sword, grabbing an enemy from behind, and strangling them.

While the standard grunt-type enemies are more common, there are a few tougher villains that appear throughout the first half of Warrior Within to up the difficulty a bit. The worst are the Spiked Beasts, which are like hell hounds who've mated with porcupines. Hit one a few times and it will catch fire and then explode. You don't want to be near when it does (fortunately, you can just drop and hang from a ledge to avoid the explosion). Those beasts are tough, but nothing is as tough as the Dahaka.

The Dahaka is an agent of the Empress, a keeper of time. Its goal is to kill the Prince to restore order to the timeline. It cannot be fought, it can only be fled. Through the first half of Warrior Within the Prince will face and flee the Dahaka three times. The chases see the Prince having to run through a few halls, dodging traps. Make a mistake and the Dahaka catches and kills the Prince, forcing you to try again. These chase scenes aren't too bad, though they do seem to end too quickly. Perhaps the second half sees some longer stages.

Though the majority of Warrior Within equals and at times betters Sands of Time, I have two areas of concern while awaiting the final review code. First, the sound. So far 95% of the music consists of guitar rock. While it may fit in the battles, it's a little much to be so constant. The sound seems to be one of the last pieces of the Warrior Within puzzle. Not all of the music or sound effects are in, so it's hard to judge. For now, I'm a little wary.

Aside from the sound, one design choice has left me a bit bummed. The puzzles of Sands of Time have been removed. Remember the Observatory? The mirror puzzle? Through half of Warrior Within, I've found none. The closest is inside of a giant piece of archaic machinery, where the Prince must toggle various levels to get through. However, this isn't a puzzle so much as just going from point to point.

I was one of the people wishing for more puzzles, not less. But, unless the second half suddenly emerges with loads of puzzles, it would seem Warrior Within has none. That's a bit of a let-down personally, though I can understand how some were not fans of the puzzles, which did slow down the game's flow.

All-in-all, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is a lot of fun. Though the darker vision may turn some off, the game has a much better story and flow than The Sands of Time. I can't wait for the full version so I can see how the sound has come out and to experience the last levels of Warrior Within. Does the Prince defeat the Empress of Time? Does he face off against the Dahaka? Can he escape his fate? I'm looking forward to discovering the answers.

Zeker! Stond laatst heel artikel over in Edge. Die gasten hebben een mooie kijk op games en de ontwikkeling daarvan. Originaliteit en creativiteit staan voorop.
