Angry fans have accused U2 of "selling out" after the veteran band signed a deal with global corporation Apple.
The group teamed up with Apple Computer to pre-load their new album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb onto new iPod mp3 players bought the week after the disc's Nov. 23 release.
Also pre-loaded will be a significant portion of U2's back catalog and, unlike the standard iPods, the special edition U2 version will be black instead of trademark white.
Carrie Alison, editor of the largest U2 fan Web site, confirms some fans are furious at the band's decision.
"Some pockets of U2 fans will rankle at the band aligning themselves with a major corporation such as Apple, but yet also aligning themselves with AIDS charity work," Alison said.
The deal will be announced next week at a special conference in San Jose, Calif., with the band's lead singer Bono and Apple founder Steve Jobs.

En waarom zou U2 geen deals mogen sluiten met Apple? Ik snap niet waarom iemand de link legt tussen de deal met Apple en het AIDS charity werk...

In addition to a standard CD, the group will also issue a CD/DVD version that will include a documentary titled "U2 and 3 Songs." The DVD features band interviews and footage of the group performing new songs at its Dublin recording studio.
A third version, tagged as the "Deluxe Limited Edition," will include the CD and DVD, as well as a full-color, hardbound book containing "extracts from the band members' note books, original paintings, illustrations and photography along with quotes and statistics," according to U2's website.
The group also plans to issue a vinyl version of the set.
Due in stores on Nov. 22, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" features U2's latest hit, "Vertigo." The cut, which has been available via Apple's iTunes Music Store since last month, will be available in stores as a hard-copy release on Nov. 8.
"Vertigo" sits at No. 6 on Billboard's latest Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
U2 plans to support the new album with a world tour next year.

Zo bijzonder vind ik die ipod eigenlijk niet.
Hij is zwart en de handtekeningen staan erop... dat is het toch wel?
En ik vraag me af hoe ze aan 400 nummers komen, zoveel heeft U2 er helemaal niet. Denk dat er ook concerten bij zitten.
Wel jammer dat je dat weer apart moet kopen, had verwacht dat je dat bijgeleverd kreeg op die ipod.
