This is contrary to the information we had previously posted with much excitement earlier this year. We apologize for any undue confusion and coitus singles interreptus for this release.
We shall ofcourse come forward with any new release date when it becomes available. Until then be prepared for more information on the new album, which incidentally is NOT called Lake Experience.

Ik moet overigens wel nog steeds 'Vespertine' een keer kopen. 'Hidden Place' is een magistraal lied...

Het nummer Oceania klonk gisteren wel leuk tijdens de opening van de Olympische spelen, Hoewel het volgens mij playback was... maar dat maakt niks uit. Het ging om het nummer.
Nog een dikke 2 weken voor de cd.

Ik vond het nummertje van Bjork op de opening niet zo heel erg gaaf.
Jammer, ik denk namelijk dat het overige publiek er ook zo over dacht.
Wat was de reden dat zij de opening mocht zingen trouwens?

Trouwens snel overgeschakled naar de BBC toen die lul van Van Gelder er dwars doorheen begon te neuzelen.

Van Gelder voelde al de hele avond de behoefte om aan een stuk door te blaaaaaten, dus nog voordat Bjork kwam zat ik al op de BBC.

De clip van Oceania staat nu op haar site.. echt weer een meesterwerk.

De clip is super, het liedje vind ik heel wa minder. Het beklijft gewoon niet...

'k vind het jammer dat ik de openingsceremonie van de Olympische Spelen niet gezien heb. Die jurk klonk heel fantastisch.

Soms kan ik haar muziek appriciëren, soms niet. It's all so quiet vind ik gewoon fantastisch. Dat nummer raakt me echt.

Ik heb de nieuwe cd en hij is erg erg goed, vooral de nummers in het IJslands zijn spek naar mijn bek.

Dat ze zelf ondertussen niet eens moe wat van die stem...maar goed. Die remixen van plaid zijn wel erg leuk.

Ik wil meer van dat soort nummers!

Dit album had zo verschrikkelijk goed geweest,
als ze diezelfde agressie in de rest van de nummers had doorgezet.

Morgenochtend 11:00 is Bjork te zien bij Vrije Geluiden (nederland 3)

was erg interessant, leuke interviews en live beelden!

Ik kwam er net te laat achter. Ik heb nog net de laatste 15 minuten gezien.
Medulla is wel wennen maar ik begin het allemaal wel steeds meer te waarderen. Behalve het nummer Ancestors, die skip ik gewoon altijd.

Leuk programma, vanmorgen! Ik vind het nieuwe album overigens heel oke! Moest er in het begin heel erg aan wennen, maar nu vind ik het geweldig. Vooral 'Oceania' .

Wat een kut cd.

Ik vind eigenlijk alleen Constellation en Oceania twee prachtige eerlijke nummers op haar nieuwe CD. Ze spelen ook achter elkaar af gelukkig . De rest is of te glad of nog in experimentele fase verkerend.

Op Vespertine blijft elk nummer favoriet, daarna Homogenic eveneens in zijn geheel afdraaien en dan mag Possibly Maybe en Army of Me van Post op, en als laatste Human Behaviour en Come to Me van Debut.

De DVD 'Inside Bjork' wat werd uitgezonden deze zondag is gewoon te koop bij Bol en dergelijke. Op deze DVD word de titel RZA van de Wu-Tany Clan wel goed gespeld overigens

was gisteren opeens weer in een bjork stemming. Heb de gehele live box nog eens geluisterd, met als toetje de nieuwe cd.

eigeniljk een beetje aangewakkerd omdat ik 's-morgens op ned3 toevallig Inside Bjork zag langskomen, een docu van 50 minuten. Eigenlijk zag ik Thom Yorke en bleef ik daarom hangen, maar goed

Ddie singles is wel weer prijzig ja. Ik denk niet dat Bjork zo erg op geld belust is, maar de fans vragen het zelf ook om zo veel mogelijk uit te brengen. Beter dan fan zijn van een band die nauwelijks wat uitbrengt (spreek uit ervaring)

Ik heb haar gezien op een piepklein festivalletje in Belgie, toen volgens mij alleen Human Behaviour nog maar uit was en het album nog niet. De Sugarcubes waren geen supergrote naam en Bjork solo toen ook nog totaal niet, dus er was bepaald geen grote toeloop en we konden alles vanaf de voorste rij perfect zien, ook hoe haar zoontje op de schouders van 1 of andere geluidsman meeswingde

Daarna ben ik d'r al gauw uit het oog verloren, want ik hou helemaal niet van dat aanstellerige gekir. Toen ze op Werchter kwam stonden we dan ook alleen maar vooraan omdat daarna Radiohead zou komen....maar ze gaf een dijk van een concert weg zeg! De eerste helft niet, die bestond uit rustige nummers met aanstellerige uithalen. Maar daarna kwamen de toffe ritmes en de geweldige composities....ik geloof dat ik Bjork het tofst vind als ze zoveel mogelijk haar bek dicht houdt

De meest abstracte CD van haar tot nu toe. Dit is pure avantgarde. Maar ik vind dat ze zich op een positieve manier ontwikkelt. Op Drawing Restraint 9 laat ze eindelijk horen wat haar vocale vaardigheden zijn. Ik doel op Storm, waarin ze haar stem (anders dan normaal) perfect onder controle heeft. Zowiezo vind ik het de kroon op haar werk, want met vocalen, geluidseffecten en contrast weet ze ten gehore te brengen wat in de film uitgebeeld wordt.

Ik was vroeger een ontzettende fan van haar, maar nu kijk ik anders tegen haar. Toch vind ik haar nog steeds bijzonder.

Iemand zei tegen me dat Björk's muziek weinig emotie bevat. Vooral in de instrumentale begeleiding. Ik ben daar eens op gaan letten en in veel gevallen ben ik het met hem eens. Ook al is het soms gespeeld met akoestische instrumenten, het lijkt vaak toch geprogrammeerd met de computer. Je hoort geluid en melodie, maar geen dynamiek.

Ook jammer is het dat ze altijd met jan en alleman samenwerkt en te weinig van haarzelf laat horen.

Om nu maar eens wat positiefs over haar te zeggen, ze kan wel heel goed arrangeren. De verschillende instrumentklanken en geluiden in een song zijn altijd goed samengesteld. En Björk gaat altijd innovatief te werk, ze grijpt niet naar succesformules om in de smaak te vallen. Ik denk dat ze heel getalenteerd is, veel meer dan ze van zichzelf bewust is. Ze is ook geen popster vind ik, maar een kunstenares.

Ik ben benieuwd hoe het in de toekomst met haar gaat. Zal ze langzaam maar zeker uit de picture verdwijnen of zal ze opnieuw in de belangstelling komen? En zal ze dan verandert zijn?

We heard rumors all week long, but now it's official: After 14 years solo, Björk will reunite with Icelandic alternative pop icons and former bandmates the Sugarcubes in Reykjavic, Iceland on November 17, as part of the band's 20th "Birthday" celebration. The announcement was made today in a press release and reported by Björk's official website.

All proceeds from the concert will go to the prestigious non-profit Icelandic record label Smekkleysa SM. Created by Sugarcubes co-founder Einar Örn Benediktsson, Smekkleysa was responsible for the band's earliest releases-- not to mention those of Sigur Rķs and a host of others-- and still operates today.

Presently, November 17 is the only announced Sugarcubes date-- and given Björk's current popularity in contrast to that of her former band, we're not exactly confident that a full-scale tour is even being considered. Granted, this is the band's 20th anniversary, which would make it pretty much mandatory, but even so, it's probably not a great idea to get your hopes up.

No information regarding tickets for the concert has been made available just yet, but if you're one of those fans, you might want to start hunting for reasonable airfare: We just checked online and from NYC and it's about $2,350. But there is good news: We hear November is summertime in Reykjavic lolz!

Björk in actie!

Hmm, ik hoop dat er een dvd'tje van gemaakt wordt. Voor veel fans is het natuurlijk onmogelijk om zomaar voor een concert naar Reykjavik te gaan..

Björk.

Hoewel ik haar laatste CD nog niet gehoord heb, moet ik zeggen dat Vespertine één van mijn favoriete albums aller tijden is.

Veel mensen 'beschuldigen' haar vaak van 'moeilijk doen' en 'arty farty' muziek, het grappige is dat ik dat eerst ook even had bij het luisteren van Vespertine, maar na een paar keer draaien kwam ik er achter dat het juist een hele instinctieve, organische plaat is in de zin van 'ze is echt zichzelf'.

Daarnaast gewoon hele mooie mix van klassieke elementen, aparte dance beats en erg goede teksten.

Oeh, het zag er in ieder geval wel gezellig uit
Of al die linkjes echt leuk zijn weet ik niet, morgen kijk ik ze pas..

Ben Björk weer helemaal aan het herontdekken de laatste tijd. Ik kende haar natuurlijk vooral van de vele singles die ze over de jaren had uitgebracht, en had op basis daarvan ook al eens Debut en Homogenic aangeschaft; maar op de een of andere manier draaide ik die nooit echt vaak. Tot het kwartje onlangs ineens viel. Ben me nu ook langzaam door Post en Vespertine heen aan het werken, de rest volgt daarna wel.

Bjork Taps Antony, Timbaland, Lightning Bolt for LP

Anticipate! The Björk countdown has bjegun: according to a recent post on the Icelandic songstress's official website by the mysterious Meester Fly (high five to reader Adam for the tip), Björk has commenced work on her latest LP, the follow-up to 2004's Medulla-- and she's rounded up quite the little rodeo of special guests and collaborators.

Laying previous doubts to waste, the record will in fact feature a pair of duets with androgynous dude-about-town Antony. It's due in "late spring" and also boasts "some beats" from red-hot producer Timbaland on a couple tracks, "percussive delights" from Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale, electric thumb piano magic from Konono N°1 (but you knew that), Kora action from Toumani Diabate, and additional drum-work from Chris Corsano.

Icelandic scribe Sjķn contributes some lyrics, and frequent Björk producer Mark Bell is involved once again. There's no title yet, says Meester Fly, who also reports that "nothing sounds really familiar about this experience." The presence of "beats" and "drums" and, um, instruments leads us to believe this won't sound much like Medulla.

Last but not least: Björk will be touring! No details yet, but she will have a band, and, if the words of Meester Fly are to be believed, "We are in for a treat."

As previously reported, Björk covers Joni Mitchell's "Boho Dance" on the forthcoming Joni tribute on Nonesuch, due out this spring.

Antony. Die heeft al aardig wat tenenkrommende collaboraties gedaan met o.a.My Robot Friend en Joan as Policewoman. Ik hoop maar dat de samenwerkingen met Björk wat minder irritant zullen worden. Konono No. 1 is wel heel cool, dus daar ben ik weer wel benieuwd naar.

Ik ben benieuwd of de concertkaartjes weer zo duur zullen zijn.. Destijds had ik er als 15-jarig klein Warreltje 100 gulden voor betaald.. Maar pff, het was het zo waard!

At last! After months of speculation and a little Internet mischief, Icelandic swan princess Björk has revealed the title and release date for her sixth full-length proper and follow-up to 2004's a cappella experiment Medúlla.

Volta includes 10 new songs and graces the earth May 7 via, we presume, Elektra.

As previously reported, it's quite an eclectic, star-studded affair: Björk duets with Antony, trades beats with Timbaland, and receives "percussive delights" (oh my) from Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale, mbira merriment from Konono N°1, kora joys from Toumani Diabate, pipa playing from Min Xiao-Fen, and even more percussive delights from Chris Corsano (my oh my). Björk even assembled a 10-piece all-female brass section from Iceland to toot horns on three tracks.

Contrary to previous reports, Volta was written and produced entirely by Björk, according to her website. The ever-inventive songstress debuts the new record at a bunch of festivals this spring and summer, including Coachella, Sasquatch!, and Glastonbury.

Exclusive: Bjork Talks Volta for the Very First Time

On Friday, Björk opened her music box and revealed its latest treasure: Volta, the Icelandic powerhouse's forthcoming album, due out May 7 on One Little Indian/Atlantic.

The record was produced by Björk herself, and features a globe-trotting all-star cast of contributors, including Timbaland, Antony, Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale, percussionist Chris Corsano, African collective Konono N°1, kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, Chinese pipa player Min Xiao-Fen, and a ten-piece Icelandic brass section.

Last week in New York City, Pitchfork's Brandon Stosuy sat down with Björk for her first interview about the new album. (Full disclosure: Stosuy is a friend of Matthew Barney, Björk's partner.) During their lengthy chat, Björk opened up about the politics and sonics of Volta, her relationships with her collaborators, and her plans for the future.

In the first part of a series that will continue over the course of the coming weeks, Björk talks about the rhythms of Volta: how they're different from the rhythms of her previous work, and how a trip to tsunami-stricken Indonesia inspired the life-force behind the beats.

Pitchfork: On your last album, Medulla, you focused on the human voice. This album has more of a percussive feel. Were you consciously trying to focus on percussion on this album?

Björk: I guess it was really different from how I usually work. Because at least with Homogenic, Vespertine, and Medulla, if there was a starting point, it was rhythms. I don't know why, maybe because it's the thing that I don't do. With Homogenic, I would start with a programmer, just to do distorted rock beats. And we did, I think, 100 just one bar things. And by the time I had written enough songs, I would just sit down, and then I could just sort of call it, 'okay, for the chorus of this song, like beat 73, and for the verse, number two' or whatever. And for Vespertine, I had just gotten my first laptop, and it was very much about the static universe of the internet, and all the beats clicking and everything whispered. So that would be the starting point. And obviously, Medulla was a vocal album.

But with this one, it was different because I knew more emotionally what I wanted. And because I'd done two or three projects in a row that were quite serious, maybe I just needed to get that out of my system or something. So all I wanted to do for this album was just to have fun and do something that was full-bodied and really up.

I actually did the whole album, and it wasn't until the last two or three months where the only jigsaw that hadn't been solved was the rhythms. We had done a lot of experiments with rhythms but I just threw them all away because it was like every time we did something really clever with drum programming beats, it was just too pretentious for this album, it just didn't stick.

For some reason, for me it was maybe a little bit nostalgic going back to 1992, where you had really simple 808 and 909 really lo-fi drum machines, not doing anything fancy but really basic, almost like rave stuff or trance stuff, and then really, really acoustic drums. So there are a couple of tracks on this album which are actually programs, with many programming hours spent, and you listen to it, and it sounds like kettle drums or something.

Pitchfork: Marching--both the rhythm of feet and the concept of marching itself--seems to play a big part in this record. What's the significance of marching?

Björk: I just wanted to get rhythmic again. Medulla was my way of pulling out of that, refusing to be categorized as 'Oh what rhythm is she going to do next?' Just feeling the pressure of all these young drum programmers or producers or whatever you call them contacting me, like, who was going to be the flavor of the month. It had become this kind of fashion statement, it just wasn't right.

I mean, I do love one-upmanship sometimes, like when you see kids breakdancing and who can do the best tricks. It's common, it's in our nature as animals, like the birds of paradise who've got the best feathers and that sort of stuff. But it's fun when it's impulsive and it's about fun. When it becomes clever, when it becomes more of a left-brain, who can mathematically out-do the other, it's not so fun anymore. And maybe I just sort of pulled out and did a whole vocal album.

But I definitely missed my rhythms. I mean, I love rhythms. I started an all-girl punk band when I was 14 and I was the drummer, not the singer. I'm very, very, very picky when it comes to rhythms. So it was fun to approach it from another angle on this one.

And I'd be lying if I didn't say it was some sort of reaction to the state of the world today. I mean, I went in January over a year ago to Indonesia, to the area where the tsunami hit the worst. Just seeing a village of 300,000 people and 180,000 died, and people were still there digging people out and the smell of corpses and bone. The tsunami kind of scraped houses away, you could still see the floor, and the people I was with found their mom's favorite dress kind of in the mud and it was just like, outrageous.

I mean, the human race, we are a tribe, let's face it, and let's stop all this religious bullshit. I think everybody, or at least a lot of my friends, are just so exhausted with this whole self-importance of religious people. Just drop it. We're all fucking animals, so let's just make some universal tribal beat. We're pagan. Let's just march.

Björk's album covers have always been visual feasts, reflecting the spirit of the music inside while helping to maintain Björk's status as a brilliant artist. A new addition to the collection is always exciting, but the unveiling of the artwork for Volta (due out May 7 in the UK and May 8 in the U.S. on One Little Indian/Atlantic) is extra special, as Pitchfork was able to discuss the image with Björk herself.

As you can see, the photo's bright colors contrast sharply with the muted tones of the covers of her last two albums, Medulla and Vespertine. This mirrors the sound of Volta, which was inspired by the universal urge to dance.

"All I wanted to do for this album was just to have fun and do something that was full-bodied and really up," Björk told Stosuy in the first part of their chat. The album cover is meant to evoke pagan femininity and, to some degree, feminism, which is a running theme throughout the music of Volta. "It's not necessarily about me as a woman, but just women," Björk told Stosuy. "Kind of that long leap of 10,000 years back, when they [were] in harmony with nature, and just little things like the fact that there are 13 full moons in a year and most women have certain things happening to them 13 times a year, but Christianity wanted to have 12 months, just to try to put that off."

Conflict with conventional organized religion is another undercurrent of Volta. "It's about being exhausted with the self-importance of religion, and thinking, 'okay, wait a minute, maybe we are one tribe, and we're actually part of nature,'.

"I was reading a lot of books the last couple of years, especially about things that interest me a lot, like neuroscience, about the two hemispheres and about how we actually are animal species, and, like, female medicine from nature, and how Christianity forced us to ignore nature and the body. There's a lot of interesting books being written by my generation of scientists that they're kind of looking at things slightly differently from how I was taught about it, at least when I was 12.

"It's sort of trying to put out some good vibes for the little princesses out there. There are actually other things than losing a glass slipper. I mean, part of it was having a little daughter and realizing, what are we telling girls? All these books out there about finding your prince. All these little girls, all they want to do is be pretty and find their prince, and I'm like, what happened to feminism here?"

"I also wanted to have some sort of shaman sort of voodoo thing, to get rid of a lot of tension. But in a happy way, not as a destructive thing, more like a celebration."

The voodoo/shaman aspect is most evident in the Volta promotional shots, the album's inside artwork, and the cover of the first single, "Earth Intruders", which will be released as a digital download on April 9. A taste of that artwork is visible on Bjork's website right now.

"It was a magical atmosphere in the photo shoot. It was kind of fun, because it wasn't about me, it was about this sort of spirit of-- like a woman who is kind of...into rave, no I'm just kidding. Like, a sort of celebration of that ancient, but at the same time kind of neon."

Ik vind beide covers wel grappig eigenlijk. Heel weird, maar erg leuk.

Het stukje Earth Intruders wat al gelekt is klinkt erg mysterieus en een beetje tribalachtig. Cool.

Kan niet wachten op de album

Het is ook dat het op 2 april online is gezet, anders had ik nog wel een goede 1 april-grap kunnen beschouwen. Nou goed, wellicht is het toch die van Weakling, al gok ik er zelf op dat die van de eerste single zal zijn.

Ik hoop eigenlijk stiekem op die van Grobbel. Op www.bjork.com presenteren ze hem volgens mij ook als de cover van Volta. De Earth Intruders single heeft een veel simpelere cover.

Ondertussen heb ik dat stukje gehoord en het was een behoorlijk WTF! momentje ...

In ieder geval weet ik nu weer precies waarom ik liever niet naar fragmentjes luister en bij voorkeur wacht totdat ik een plaat volledig gehoord heb ...

Ik vond het eigenlijk wel intrigerend.

Volgens mij weet ik wel wawt de lelijkste cover van 2007 gaat worden...

Ik vind het een hele mooie cover.

En Earth Intruders is inmiddels in zijn geheel op internet te vinden. Ik vind 'm erg tof.

Ik heb eindelijk Homogenic maar eens beluisterd, en ik moet zeggen: erg cool. Hunter blijft toch wel zo ontzettend gaaf.
