Op 10 november kunnen we een 4 disc uitgave verwachten van het legendarische Live Aid concert uit 1985.
The historic 1985 Live Aid concert will finally be released on DVD in the fall. Earlier this year, the Band Aid Trust agreed to auction the global rights for the concerts for the first time, after pirated copies were found for sale on the Internet.
Warner Vision International won the bidding and has set a Nov. 10 release date for a four-disc DVD package. The iconic Live Aid, held at London's Wembley and Philadelphia's JFK Stadium, raised more than $70 million for famine relief in Africa.
Among the acts that performed were a reunited Led Zeppelin, U2, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Neil Young. Phil Collins and Queen. The DVDs will feature a documentary, "Food, Trucks & Rock'n'Roll," plus performances from related Live Aid events around the world.
"Twenty years ago they not only played 'real good for free,' they took an issue that was nowhere on the agenda of the political world and placed it at the very top," says concert organizer Bob Geldof. "By buying the Live Aid DVD, that day continues far off into some distant but hopefully better future for all those people in whose name those great artists played."

Ik heb nog nooit het hele concert gezien, alleen maar fragmenten. Maar ik kan er wel een mening over vormen en dat is dat elk muziekliefhebber dit gezien moet hebben.
Ik verheug me er in ieder geval op om deze DVD in handen te krijgen.

Ik heb het wel zo'n beetje helemaal gezien. Live Aid was bijzonder speciaal. Er waren artiesten bij die van mij wel weg hadden mogen blijven, maar er waren ook erg goede bij. En heel het idee erachter was natuurlijk ook goed.
Ik denk dus ook wel dat ik 'm ga kopen, alhoewel hij wel wat prijzig zal zijn. Hopelijk gaat er een deel van dat bedrag naar een goed doel..

Die set ga ik zeker weten aanschaffen. Ik heb ooit eens een zoektocht gedaan naar beeld- en geluidsdragers van Live Aid en las meestal dat het nooit mogelijk zou zijn om alle rechten te clearen (of hoe je dat moet zeggen).
Het concert duurde toen 16 uur, volgens xfm.co.uk komt er meer dan 10 uur aan optredens op te staan:
En dan ben ik nog benieuwd wat de master materialen voor de DVD's zal zijn. Het concert was in Amerika en de UK, zijn de materialen dan (overwegend) PAL of NTSC video?
En verder zou ik ook dat Freddie Mercury tribute concert weleens willen hebben. Toentertijd hadden ze het over de het releasen van een CD-box, maar tot heden heb ik nog niks gezien.
En die DVD die onlangs is verschenen is niet geweldig. Mijn herinnering van dat concert was Knocking On Heaven's Door van Guns n' Roses. Die single met de live versie waas nog een nummer 1 hit ook.
Maar goed, het gaat in dit topic om Live Aid. Ik was te jong om het bewust mee te maken en heb ook wel fragmenten gezien. Ik kan niet wachten op die DVD! Ik hoop btw dat ze ook die Band Aid clip op een van de DVD's zetten.

Maar er missen dus ook bands en nummers doordat het materiaal niet volledig was. Nou ja, ik kan in ieder geval binnenkort ook eens zien wat voor spektakel het was.

Ik heb nog steeds alle banden en heb ze toevallig laatst overgezet op dvd. Denk dat ik deze officiele uitgave ook wel ga kopen, maar ik ben toch blij dat ik het origineel ook nog heb, met alles dat nu niet wordt uitgebracht.
