Welke film?
Nitpick Category: Scientific Fact
Approximate time of nitpick: Throughout the movie
Summary: Talking and Breathing Normally While in Saturation
Details: I know this would be hard to make realistic, but the fact is that when you are in saturation and under pressure, the density of the gas mixture you breathe is different from air at the surface. The speed of sound of the gas changes and your voice sounds different. It is also harder to breathe due to the restriction of trying to get "thick" air into your lungs. If you add inert gases to prevent nitrogen narcosis then they affect the sound of your voice as well. This physiological factors limit the practical depth of saturation diving to about 1000 feet. The actors should have funny sounding voices and they should have trouble breathing when exerting themselves.
Comment: The film crew knew this.
On the DVD, with the text commentary, they bring this subject up and admit that all their voices should have been higher like they were all sucking on helium, but chose not to do that because no one would watch the movie with everyone having high-pitch voices.
