Dit is echt hot news dus, want de tests waar het over gaat zijn de criteria waaronder het verantwoord is om de euro ook in het Verenigd Koninkrijk in te voeren. Daarnaast is de koers van het pond de laatste weken zodanig omlaag gegaan, dat ook de wisselkoers bijna het wenselijke niveau heeft bereikt.

Brown orders start on euro criteria
By George Trefgarne and Benedict Brogan (Filed: 15/08/2001)GORDON BROWN has ordered the Treasury to begin assessing his five economic tests for joining the euro, in an operation involving hundreds of civil servants across Whitehall.
The existence of the operation to prepare what are described as "voluminous documents", examining all the relevant issues on scrapping the pound, was admitted by the Treasury last night. A source involved in the work said "huge numbers" of officials from the Treasury and other departments are contributing to the process.
Die Engelsen zullen op den duur toch wel moeten, want wanneer de Euro echt voet aan de grond heeft gekregen pissen zij met het Pond natuurlijk wel buiten de boot qua handel.
