For many the most disturbing aspect of the day's events is the increasing number of young children who are guided by their parents through the cutting and blood-letting. From babies of one year to young preteens, these children participate because their parents hope that some good luck might shine upon these young devotees of Imam Hussein. Considering the overall political pessimism and economic stagnation felt by the majority of Lebanese, one can hardly blame the parents for this wish.
