Ikben me nu toch best wel het bedenken om Iced Earth toch live te gaan bekijken, eens gaan rondneuzen wat de kaartjes moeten gaankosten

Het schijnt trouwens zo te zijn dat de gitaren in IE een halve toon lager zijn gestemt. Kan iemand me uitleggen waarom ze dat doen en of er een manier is om de nummers te spelen zonder telkens je gitaar te moeten stemmen?

dat doen ze om het heavier te laten klinken, slayer speeld ook in die tuning

het word ook vaak gedaan om de stem van de zanger bij te houden, net zoals metallica live altijd halve toon lager speelt dan op de albums

Je kan ales een vakje lager spelen, maar dat is niet ideaal, je kan je gitaar toch gewoon eff omstemmen

Eb zal waarschijnlijk de meest voorkomende tuning in de thrash/heavy/speed/powermetal stroming zijn.Klinkt gewoon het beste.

Misschien moet het tourschema wel worden aangepast. Het is logisch dat ze nu wellicht niet in dezelfde volgorde de zalen aan kunnen doen. Daar gaat een hoop geregel in zitten.

Concert staat nog steeds op ergens in de winter dus dat duurt nog even.

Ik weet nie of je met de cd meespeelt maar MetallicA is toch echt in standaard e alleen load en reload en live spelen ze meestal 1 stap lager

met 1 stap bedoel ik dus een halve toon, kwas altijd in de veronderstelling dat je 2 stappen omlaag moest voor bv van E > D en 1 stap voor C > B

jah kijk als je normaal de losse E snaar aanslaat, krijg je dus een E, als je die capo op bv de 3e fret zet, krijg je als je de snaar los ( dus geen vinger op de fretten ) aanslaat dus een G
Dit is makkelijk als je veel barre akkoorden speelt bv

ze worden dus hoger jah

Een capo voor lagere tonen zou pas vet zijn

Greetings!

Again I must apologize for the delay in updating you all on the current events of I.E., it’s seems there’s never enough hours in the day.

The tour has been an astounding success thus far with most of the shows being sold out; many in record time for Iced Earth. The legion of our passionate and incredibly loyal fans is growing as always and we are extremely grateful.

The most significant bit of news to report is that Richard Christy will no longer be with the band after the LA show. He has decided to pursue his comedy career by being a permanent fixture on the Howard Stern show. Though Richard’s timing on informing the band of this was somewhat less than professional, as he informed us of his intentions in the middle of the tour instead of before it started, we do wish him well and all the best for his future. He feels he will be better suited for the comedy world than the music world based on some recent experiences, and he’s probably right, Richard is a very funny and unique guy.

Replacing Richard will be Bobby Jarzombek of “Halford” and “Riot” notoriety. Bobby is an excellent drummer and we will be rehearsing in Los Angeles before we start the extension of the U.S. dates.

Another thing I would like to address is the BWBK “controversy.” First let me say that at the time of writing this I have not seen anything on Brave Words site or any “official” statement from them concerning the issue at hand. I don’t have a lot of access to the net on tour and when I do it’s for business purposes only, not to see what the obsessive gossipers are ranting about on any given chat room. In fact the only reason I’m addressing this is because it is relevant to my integrity and what this band stands for.

The issue at hand is “integrity” in journalism and the serious lack of it. Not only is the world of serious news tainted with bad journalism, the rock world is as well.

One example is the way that Blabbermouth.com chose to take one paragraph out of context from an interview with Revolver Magazine. This paragraph in its original context told a very different story from the Blabbermouth report. It went from a funny story that Tim was telling to get a laugh out of people, to a story that insinuated there were problems between him and I. Nothing is further from the truth. What good can this possibly serve? Are these people so pathetic and their lives so lame that they have to make up bullshit to feel relevant? Or is it simply about creating controversy to sell magazines or stories when there is none? And if that’s the case are they not talented enough writers’ to report stories that are true and interesting?

The BWBK situation is different but reeks of the same problem. Our “boycott” of the magazine has to do with the way they “improvised” my conversation with the journalist for our feature story. There are people out there who blame the United States for all the bad things in the world just the way the Nazi’s blamed the Jews for everything. The individual I did the interview with was one of those people. My problem is that the way the interview reads has nothing to do with the way the conversation went. Example: The first question out of this “journalists” mouth was “Don’t you think the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?” It was not the big paragraph of text that the “journalist” wrote in the article where he is stating that due to some of the U.S. foreign policies there are those around the world that feel we deserved to be attacked. That was not the way the question was asked. It was “Don’t you feel the attacks of 9-11 were warranted?” The questions got worse from there and any fair minded person that would hear the conversation in its true form, I believe, would be offended as well.

I challenged the journalist during our conversation to print the conversation the way it was or that he’d be the one who would have to live with a dishonest conscience and face the consequences. I see the choice that’s been made. Why am I surprised? People with these radical views, no matter the ideology, are rarely honest with themselves let alone anyone else.

This “boycott” has nothing to do with the fact that we disagree about certain issues, I believe deeply in free speech, intelligent debate and intelligent dissent. It has nothing to do with the fact that most of the BWBK staff chose to base their opinions of “The Glorious Burden” on politics rather than the music and the history that inspired it. It doesn’t even matter that they tried to patronize us with their little cartoons of Tim and I in Revolutionary War uniforms, which was very cool artwork by the way, kudos to the artist. No…… this comes down to taking a stand against shitty journalism. We’ve been dealing with this kind of thing for years, like all bands do, but this time the seriousness of the underlying issue warranted a more drastic response. Magazines and bands have a business relationship. In order to have a prosperous relationship there should be honesty and integrity involved to maintain such a relationship. All they would have had to do was print the conversation the way it was, and everything would be fine….they made their choice, we made ours…..

We wish BWBK no ill will; we just prefer not to do business with them anymore.

As for the European tour, it looks as though we will be doing our headline tour in November/December this year. Again, I sincerely apologize to the European fans for the postponement of the tour. I promise it will be worth the wait and we will give you a hell of a show when we get there. You’re the best fans anyone could ask for and we love you!!!

Demons & Wizards is coming along slowly but surely. Due to our intense work schedules it’s taken longer than we wanted but it will also be worth the wait. We have about half of the albums basic arrangements done and it is awesome! This is really going to be something special. We hope it will be out in spring of 2005 if things go as planned.

That’s all for now people. We look forward to the rest of the shows and the big festivals we’re headlining in Europe. I.E. will be touring a lot in the next year and a half and we have some great things planned for you.

Century Media is releasing a 2CD best of collection from ICED EARTH called The Blessed And The Damned on July 27th.

The album features 23 remastered tracks (over two hours of material) with two different album covers. IE leader Jon Schaffer talks about each song in the 20 page booklet that's included in the package.

In de Aardschok staat vermeld dat 23 december de nieuwe datum is voor Hardenberg, maar wel onder voorbehoud. Over Hof Ter Lo staat er niks,maar dat zal wel in die buurt komen. Wel kan ik vertellen dat Primal Fear 10 september in Biebob komt.

na het matige ( door zoveel nieuwe nummers, bah echt saai ) optreden op graspop wil ik nu een fatsoenlijk optreden meemaken, ook van wat korter bij!
Ik vond Ripper er wel goed bij passen met zn live stem, beter dan ik verwacht had.

Matig optreden? Je hebt vast iets anders gezien dan ik. Het was geweldig. Ze speelden vier nummers, maar omdat het die trilogie was, die ze overigens ook op tour gaan spelen, lijkt het langer te duren. Die trilogie was live veel overtuigender dan op cd, evenals de zang van Ripper op alle vlakken.

Ook de oude nummers zingt hij perfect.

Wat trouwens zeer leuk was van het concert dat Iced Earth gaf op Graspop, is dat ze voor Graspop en het Bang Your Head festival dat op de zaterdag plaatsvond in Duitsland aparte shirts hebben laten drukken met twee tourdatums erop.

Klopt The Reckoningen hebben ze de hele tour nog niet gespeeld.

Nee klopt, van het nieuwe deden ze alleen Decleration Day en de Gettysburg trilogie. Wat ook logisch is, want je gaat op een festivalconcert niet alleen nieuwe nummers spelen. Ze deden zo weinig, omdat Gettysburg in z'n eentje al een half uur duurt.

ik vond die trilogy niet geschikt live, vond het gewoon saai, de oude nummers waren zeker fantastisch, maar door die 4 nummers in totaal een half uur vond ik het gewoon saai op het einde, tzijn geen pittige nummers

ik vond die trilogy niet geschikt live, vond het gewoon saai, de oude nummers waren zeker fantastisch, maar door die 4 nummers in totaal een half uur vond ik het gewoon saai op het einde, tzijn geen pittige nummers
Ik ben zeker geen groot fan van het laatste album en al helemaal niet van die trilogie, maar die decors en costuums hadden wel wat in die triliogie als toegift. Goede climax.

Ik hoop wel op een live-album of wellicht zelfs een dvd met een mooie show. Wanneer je Ripper live gehoord hebt bij Iced Earth (en niet bij Priest) gaat zelfs de grootste Ripper-scepticus erin mee dat het een goede vervanger is voor Matt Barlow.

Het lijkt alleen langer terug... op zich is één live-album in heel het bestaan van Iced Earth best weinig.

However, people are destined for their roles, and like I said, Bobby is the man and every time I look back at him on stage it's telepathy, perfect symmetry.

"Ok, on to Ralph. Ralph is the best guitarist I've worked with on this level and there are always things to be considered. There are personal goals to consider on both ends, the way you interact, what you get out of your performance, the whole nine yards. Chemistry. Some things are destined to be and others aren't. I love Ralph's solos and his style, it was exactly what Jon wanted for this album. There was no 'out or in' for Ralph. It was as you saw it. Jon writes the songs, and the solos are the ear-candy, and I love that ear-candy by the way, but other issues come into play and Ralph was destined to do other things instead. Ralph has become a good friend of mine and will definitely do things in the future with him. He's a character and we talk all the time, his plate is pretty full and I'm glad for him. There are no hard feelings between the ICED EARTH camp and Ralph and that's the bottom line, sometimes things fit and sometimes they don't. There is no reason to look further than that. We are in talks with a few people for that role and all will be 'very well' before the next leg. Jon and I talked the other day, and we were wanting to find that person where before they even played a note you could tell that your souls were connected, exactly what Jon felt with Tim the first time they met. In closing, I hope this answers some questions and when we find that last link to the puzzle you'll be the first to know. We're looking for that soulmate that belongs in the band and when we meet 'like Jon and Tim met' then we'll have the stable lineup we've always wanted."

Alleen al wat ie over Barlow heeft gezegd, dat ie alleen op het podium een bandmember was, dattie het allemaal speelde op het podium 1 grote act, en hij zou offstage volgens Jon geen goeje member zijn, zonder inbreng of nix, maar waarom zijn ze dan wel nog jaren door gegaan aangezien Jon het voor het zeggen heeft, ik geloof het dus ook niet allemaal zo 1 2 3

De laatste jaren was dat zo omdat Matt er zich niet meer in thuis voelde in de rockstar bestaan.

@Djaser, of ze weer hertrouwd zijn weet ik niet maar ze zijn weer bij elkaar iig.

En ik denk dat het toch meer in de buurt van de Hardenberg datum zal zijn vanwege de feestdagen en dat Hardenberg en 013 1 dag na elkaar zal zijn.

First off, I want to thank you all for another successful tour. Your passion and loyalty towards the band never ceases to amaze me. I look back over the last 15 years of Iced Earth touring around the world, and though there have been many changes, the one thing that's always been consistent is the spirit of our fan base. It's truly an amazing thing and I feel fortunate for that special relationship. Iced Earth has never been about an individual, but a way of life. A lot of people don't get that, but the fans do, and that's what's made it a success from the beginning. So again, I thank you all........

I also want to take this opportunity to tell you all that Bobby Jarzombek will be with Iced Earth as well as Demons & Wizards as long as he wants to be here. He is truly a world class drummer, the best I've ever played with by the way, and I'm honored to have him on the team. Bobby has an instructional video coming out soon that is mind-blowing; check it out if you get a chance, you won't be disappointed.

As some of you may know, I've been dealing with lower back pain for a few years now. I had surgery back in November that turned out to be a waste of time and most likely a misdiagnosis due to the fact that the pain has reached an all new level. In fact, towards the end of the tour there were a few nights that I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the set. I feel I owe the fans at the Graspop festival in Belgium an apology because I was certainly not myself at that show, and for that I am sorry.

When we arrived at Frankfurt airport the day before, I wasn't sure if I was even going to be able to do the 2 festivals. I was having trouble walking and standing for any length of time, it was very intense and nothing I could do was giving me any relief. Thankfully, the physical therapist that did the first 4 weeks of the U.S. tour is a German friend, and was able to meet me in Frankfurt that night and work on my back. Between his help and a few bottles of Jagermesiter I was able to get through both shows. Those who know me know that drinking before or during a performance is not a practice that I'm accustomed to, but it did ease the pain a bit. I feel sure I was at 20% of my normal capacity at Graspop and maybe 50% at Bang Your Head, and all the while suffering immensely.

Anyway, I'm in the process of taking several serious medical tests to see if we can get to the bottom of the problem and fix it for good. As of right now my health has to be the first priority, so any plans for touring are on hold for the moment.

Also, very soon we will be auctioning off my 2000 Harley Davidson Night Train. Neil will have pictures of it up soon and my friends at Guitarworks here in Greenwood, Indiana will be handling the sale through their EBay site. The bike is sitting in their showroom right now. This is a bike that I customized myself and due to my back problems it's been sitting in my living room because I was in denial about parting with it.

Anyway, the time has come to face the reality that touring bikes with windshields are my destiny as a biker.

This bike was also photographed in certain versions of the Horror Show CD, albeit with a different paint job. It's absolutely cherry and has only 1995 miles. The engine isn't even broken in yet! The reason behind auctioning it off instead of selling it the normal way is that we want to give a percentage of the proceeds to a charity that will help our troops whose families are struggling financially here at home. If you're at all interested in bidding on this one of a kind Harley with its unique history keep posted for details in the next few days. Once Neil gets the links up you can read more about the bike and what's included with it.

Well, I've saved the best news for last. I'm going to be a father!! Wendi and I are very happy and looking to the future like never before. This is by far the biggest and most important thing to happen to us and will be more fulfilling than anything thus far, I'm sure.

En als er nou geen nieuws is? Kom op zeg. Doe eens een keer POSITIEF over een band. Dan is dit weer niet goed, dan dat weer niet en nu dit weer. Lekker belangrijk als een band niet elke maand laat weten of de bassist wel goed gescheten heeft, de drummer zich af en toe laat afwerken achter een station, de gitarist ligt te krikken om een kind te produceren en of de zanger zich bezig houdt met vlinders bestuderen 'omdat hij de agressiviteit niet aankan'.

Over de post van Jon: tsja, ik had niet echt een gevoel dat hij niet in zijn vel zat tijdens de Graspop show. Voor iemand met zoveel pijn heeft hij toch nog een goede show gegeven vind ik. Hulde voor zoiets

Vergeet Nightmares en Colors niet! Hoewel Nightmares niet op die eerste twee staat, maar wel op de demo en later ook is opgenomen met Matt Barlow op Days of Purgatory.

De vroegere albums zijn in zijn geheel wel beter dan Horror Show, maar toch, neem de nummers Damien en Dracula die een zeer verpletterende indruk achter laten.

Colors is goed maar behoort imo niet tot de betere IE nummers. En ik prefereer Winter Nights dan boven Nightmares mede door die geweldige riff erin.

Damien en Dracula zijn idd erg goed net zoals meerdere nummers van de laatste 4 cd's maar wat ik mis is gewoon die gave gitaarpartijen waar je kippenvel van krijgt.

Horror show heeft alleen maar goede nummers(net als het debuurt en dark Saga trouwens)

When the night falls, Written on the walls, Colors, Iced Earth en 'The night of the stormrider' in zijn geheel zijn geniaal goede nummers.

Het is trouwens jammer dat je in Iced Earth niet meer veel de bassgitaar hoort. Vergelijk de nummers van Enter The Realm maar eens met de versies op Iced Earth.

Djaser, Dark Saga alleen maar goede nummers? Alleen het 1e en laatste nummer komen boven de middelmaat van IE nummers uit. Als een geheel is het goed te doen maar de nummers op hun zelf zijn een stuk minder imo.

De uitgstelde show van februari gaat helaas niet door dit jaar, vanwege operaties bij gitarist (rug). Vandaag kregen we de e-mail van het management. Maar, zodra de band weer gaat touren komen ze naar Podium. We kunnen jullie dus nog geen nieuwe datum geven. De gekochte kaarten voor het februariconcert kunnen ingeleverd worden bij de vvk-adressen waar ze gekocht zijn.

Ik vind Dark Saga in zijn geheel wel ok maar de nummers apart vind ik middelmatig tot ok. Alleen Dark Saga en A Question Of Heaven zijn goede nummers. Maar goed ik vind The Dark Saga zowiezo IE's slechtste album(Op DoP na dan). Mijn eerste kennismaking met IE was Horror Show en daarna nog wat mp3's(melancholy, stormrider en My Own Savior geloof ik). Ik vond IE wel goed maar ik was nog niet echt een fan. Maar ja toen ik NOTS kocht.....

Hello All!

It's time for an update once again. Things have been pretty crazy between the awesome news of being a future father for the first time, the back problems and the numerous doctor visits; MRI's, EMG's and a load of other tests, a new business that has taken off and grown much quicker than expected (Spirit of 76 Collectibles), the Gettysburg DVD, Iced Earth's day to day, Demons & Wizards, a 4 figure miniature series called "The Great Americans" and another line-up change.

Unfortunately for me, the guys in the band, the crew, the label, and more importantly the fans, we will not be touring Europe or anywhere else until summer 2005 due to my serious lower back problems and the fact that I'll be a father in early March. We plan on playing many of the big European festivals next summer and they are being booked at present.

This is the main reason that Jimmy is no longer with Iced Earth. He called me after it was obvious that I.E. would not be touring for a while and asked if I would mind if he auditioned for Megadeth. I wished him luck and told him that if he can go out and earn money by playing bass he should do it. This is a tough business and it's not easy for musicians to make a living when they're in an underground band that is not touring. That's why so many musicians that are in bands and have records out also have day jobs. Tim, Bobby and I wish Jimbo all the best!

As for the Gettysburg DVD, Mark Briody was just here a few days ago and it's looking very cool. We had a brainstorming session for some of the final touches and we are both very excited about the project. We are shooting for a January release date at this point. Mark and I both feel that this will be one of the most, if not the most unique releases a metal band has ever done. It'll be a double disc packed with all kinds of cool stuff. It will have the Gettysburg video in 5.1 Surround (both the metal and theatrical mixes) and in stereo. There will also be a battlefield tour where I interview and discuss the battle with a licensed battlefield guide as we walk through the events of the three days. There will also be a very in depth and entertaining interview between Mark and myself. Also, it will have the "When the Eagle Cries," "The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me)" and if we get it finished in time, a video that is going into production very soon for "Declaration Day."
I think in all it will be over 3 hours of material to check out. It's going to be killer.......

Fortunately my back situation will still allow me to write and record over the next months. Hansi and I will be getting together in October to write and go over arrangements on the new material that we have finished. This CD will be a big step forward for us. I have always seen D&W as a special kind of monster that we've created and the new material will propel us beyond what was accomplished with the first CD. Some people have wondered if it will be possible for us to beat the first one since we had a Grammy nomination in Germany and because it was such a big success worldwide. All I can say is that we don't concern ourselves with that stuff. We have fun together and we do it on our terms and no one else's. It will rule, that's all I know!

Tim and I will also be working on new IE material over the course of the next several months. I'm looking forward to what we can do when we put our heads together. We have great chemistry together on a personal level and it will surely come through in the music.

My newest venture is a 4 figure miniature series called "The Great Americans." This will be an ongoing series that will be dedicated to those personalities who have had an impact on all of our lives and who have served and made a difference in this world. The figure set is a very limited, highly collectible, 54mm or 32nd scale pewter figure that is hand painted to amazing detail. The figures are designed by myself and Andy Neilson of King and Country and manufactured by King and Country exclusively for Spirit of 76 Collectibles. Well, as you can see I'm a bit busy, and this is just what it's like when I'm in a bit of a quandary with my back problems and in a period of "down" time. It's normally a much more intense work schedule............

One thing that I want to be clear here is that these changes will have little or no effect on this band. When I'm healed and ready to roll again we will be back with a vengeance, tighter than ever, with a world class line-up. On that you can depend. So, to the Iced Earth fans out there; don't fall into the trap of rumors and BS that runs rampant when change occurs. Every change that has happened thus far has been for the better; everything happens for a reason.

Wish me luck through the next months of intense procedures and therapy on the back, I'll need it.

In related news, congratulations are in order for Owens and his wife Jeannie, who are expecting their second child (a baby daughter) on April 9, 2005. The couple have a 17-month-old son, Timothy Steven Owens Jr. In addition, Tim has a 15-year-old daughter, Lauren, from a previous marriage.

Maar goed ik haal writingcredits, nummers etc, door elkaar, en vind Valley forge het beste nummer van de cd. Dus ja ik ben idd niet serieus te nemen.

De zang is opnieuw opgenomen omdat Matthew Barlow na de opnames uit de band stapte en ze Tim Owens als zanger erbij haalden. Je kunt het niet maken om een album te releasen die nog gemixt moet worden met de oude zang als je een nieuwe zanger hebt. Het lijkt mij dat het album met Matthew Barlow beter zal klinken, gewoon omdat ik de stem van Tim Owens niet echt geweldig vind in de meeste nummers.

Misschien moeten we nog even wennen aan de aparte tekenstijl. Ook helpt het niet echt dat het gezicht van de demoon er een beetje afgeraffelt uit ziet. Ik vind in ieder geval nu al best mooi. En leuk dat er echt een demon en wizard op staan.

Clip is eindelijk eens klaar met laden, en ik vind hem niet eens zo slecht. Die computeranimatie van Set is wel een beetje matig maar ik vraag me nu wel af of dit een soort preview op het Something Wicked album is.

Hello Everyone!

I know I've been really lame with the updates and I'm sorry about that. We've let things get pretty lax here at Iced Earth.com and we're going to be making some changes in this in the not too distant future. As some of you are aware, I'm not really the internet type of guy and only use it for my email, and even that I avoid often (which does annoy my business associates at times; but hey, that's what phones are for!), so I spend as little time as possible on a computer; unless it's my studio computer and I'm spending a LOT of time on that one. Tim enjoys surfing and all of that stuff so he's going to be involved in the IE site a lot more in the future. You'll be seeing some big changes in the site with the release of the next IE CD.

Which actually brings me to the next bit of news... I'm completely consumed in the writing process of what will be by far the most ambitious album(s) IE has ever done. Some of you probably know that the next 2 releases will comprise the full concept album of the Something Wicked story line, Part 1 & Part 2. I know it's taken quite some time to get this beast on its way to fruition, but it IS finally happening, and I really feel the time is right. The goal is to make this our most epic, dynamic, most melodic and heaviest CD ever. Because of the depth and detail of the story it would be impossible to do it on one CD, there simply is not enough time, so I'm writing both parts at one time so that the continuity is there. If I were to wait a year or two to start writing part 2 I would be in a completely different frame of mind and it wouldn't work nearly as well, so the best thing is to do all the writing at once. We'll get Part 1 recorded, mixed and released and then finish part 2 which will come out about 6 months later. That's at least the preliminary plan. We are still pretty early in the process but things are starting to move along nicely.

I know it's been some time since the release of "The Glorious Burden" and I ask you to please be patient because what's coming next is going to blow you away. This is the album that IE fans have been waiting for.

I want to apologize to the European fans for not making it over there for a headline tour on the last album. My back problems got too intense to be on the road and that really screwed things up for everyone, myself, the rest of the guys in the band, our crew, the promoters etc.. We would have toured a lot more than we did had I not had these problems. The great thing is that the last surgical procedure I had in October of 2004 seems to have worked to make the pain much more tolerable. I did very extensive therapy for many months and am committed to being in the best shape of my life by the time we tour again. It's good to be enjoying life for the first time in a very long time.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those of you that have picked up the Demons & Wizards "Touched by the Crimson King" CD. Sales have been excellent worldwide and again have exceeded myself and Hansi's expectations. It outsold the 1st release in mere months in many territories, (including the US), around the world and charted high in several European countries. The normal mode of operation is to get out and push the CD by doing live shows but due to Hansi's activities with Blind Guardian and my writing schedule for the next IE release it will probably be a while before we do any live shows. We knew we had a small window of opportunity to get this one recorded and released and were aware that touring was going to be done at a later date from the beginning. We felt it had been too long since the first CD was released so we opted for this plan instead of waiting another 2 years to get the 2nd CD out. We will be doing a live CD at some point here in the States, probably NYC, and that's sure to be quite an event!

2005 was a very special year for me. My daughter was born and it's been by far the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. After so many years of ass breaking work to keep this band alive and successful it was time for me to take care of #1. So I devoted my time to my health and my family and it was great. My batteries definitely needed recharging. Things are in perspective like never before and I feel more determined and more focused than ever. I can say in full confidence that this is coming through in the music.

Contrary to some rumors IE is still very much alive and will be coming back with a vengeance, stronger and more driven than ever to spread our brand of metal. Tim, Bobby and I are very much looking forward to getting these CD's in the can and getting back out to see you all again.

I haven't concentrated until recently with filling the open positions as there are plenty of very talented musicians out there that would love to be a part of the IE legacy. We get hit with demos and email constantly from a lot of great players, even when we're not looking. I'm checking out a few people and announcements will be made when the decisions have been made.

I'll leave another post here in the near future with some titles and updates on the writing and happenings in IE world.

ICED EARTH To Enter Studio In February - Dec. 31, 2006

ICED EARTH guitarist/mainman Jon Schaffer has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"Again I have to apologize for the delay in updates. I've been extremely busy with writing and preproduction for the new ICED EARTH CDs.

"I also lost the one person that was my true mentor and inspiration throughout my life, which was very difficult. My father, Tom Schaffer, died unexpectedly of a massive stroke in October. He was 67, and died two weeks before his 68th birthday. It's hard to imagine what my life would have been like without my Dad's influence. I would not be who I am today, that's for sure. Fortunately, he was able to travel with the band a few times, and he really enjoyed meeting and talking with the fans. He was there for the 'Alive in Athens' recording and was dubbed Papa Earth by some of the fans in Greece. I will miss him very much.

"Obviously, this had a huge impact on me and brought the writing to a halt for about a month.

"I'm back on track and we are going to start recording on February 1st. We will be releasing a single/EP in June '07 that will feature the 'Something Wicked' trilogy re-recorded and a track that will be an alternate edit of a song that will be on 'Something Wicked Part 2' that now has a working title of 'Come What May'. The label was wanting me to do something with the original trilogy to reintroduce the story. So, what we have in store for you is very cool. You will hear 'Prophecy', 'Birth of the Wicked', and 'The Coming Curse' in a new way that will be a very killer way to kick off this massive epic.

"I don't want to give you any details to spoil the surprise, but trust me, it's going to be awesome.

"'Something Wicked (Part 1)' will be released in the September/October '07 time frame and Part 2 will follow in January/February '08.

"This is by far the most epic task I've ever taken on as a songwriter and I really feel like it will be worth all the sacrifice when it's finished. I've been working nonstop for over a year now and it's coming together in a very special way. I've just about finished all the musical arrangements and am now focusing on writing the lyrics/vocal melodies. I'm in the final stretch now...

"Tim Mills has contributed a few really cool pieces of music and has shown a real interest in the whole 'Something Wicked' story, and a real passion for being involved with the band. All this while owning and operating his own company (Bare Knuckle Pickups). I'm impressed, it's a rare quality, believe me.

"Also, the bass player on the next record is a local boy from Indianapolis whose name is James 'Bo' Wallace. Bo is a killer player and a great personality. I went to see him perform several months ago and was impressed with his abilities, energy and passion. He played with MA KELLEY for many years and released several records on a few different independent labels. Without a doubt, Bo is a great bass player and I'm happy to have him working with ICED EARTH.

Ik vind The Crucible Of Man wel vet. De nieuwere IE shizz is wat minder op alleen de riffs gefocused. Ik vind 't album iig beter dan Framing Armagaddon.. Dat album vind ik een beetje deraan. Tim Owens deed het op TGB een stuk beter, en er stonden weinig nummers op die echt blijven hangen. Op TCOM is dat ook wel een beetje het geval, maar vanaf ong. de helft van 't album word het een stuk beter.

Nothing beats the old IE though.

Dus je kan hem al downloaden? Mooi dan ga ik daar eens weer beginnen. Vond Framing Armageddon nogal tegenvallen, maar vind een nieuw IE album toch altijd wel de moeite waard.

En op de laatste single (I Walk Among You), hebben ze 3 nummers van Framing Armageddon opnieuw opgenomen met Barlow aan de microfoon. Persoonlijk vind ik dat alle 3 die heropgenomen hard hebben gefaald.
Net zoiets als The Reckoning bijvoorbeeld. Dat is ook zo'n nummer dat Barlow niet echt zou kunnen verbeteren. Ik denk Gettysburg al helemaal niet.

I must admit though, Barlow hoort bij Iced Earth.

Je wist zeker nog niet dat Barlow origineel die nummers had ingezongen, voordat hij besloot bij de smeris te gaan? En dat daarna het hele album door Tim Owens pas is ingezongen?
Maar goed, de Barlow-versie was niet goed genoeg, blijkbaar. en ik ben wel blij met de versie zoals we 'm kennen.

Nou, dat wist ik wel. Geloof me, wat Iced Earth betreft ontgaat mij vrij weinig. Maar ik denk dat een van de redenen waarom Barlow niet lekker klonk bij die nummers was, omdat die nummers afweken van wat Iced Earth normaal deed. Atilla was bijvoorbeeld een van de nummers waar delen van Matt's stem bewaard zijn gebleven als backing vocalen. Dat is eigelijk ook een van de nummers waarop ik Matt's stem waarschijnlijk ook veel beter bij zou vinden klinken.

En als Jon definitief besluit FA met Barlow opnieuw op te nemen, is dat in mijn ogen een ongelofelijke backstab naar Ripper. Bovendien vond ik die 3 nummers van I Walk Among You met Barlow aan de vocalen bijna om te janken.

Net als met die Days of Purgatory nummers.. Het enige nummer op alle 2 die cd's dat daadwerkelijk verbeterd is, is 'Iced Earth'. Doe mij de originele nummers maar.

Zwolle show was wel cool, maar 't concert vorig jaar was beter. Toen waren ze sowieso main act. Dan heb je altijd ook een beter publiek.

het concert op Rock Hard dit jaar was wel beter dan Zwolle, maar goed ook daar waren ze headliner, en speelden ze A Question Of Heaven. Dat nummer is echt het hoogtepunt van een set. Jammer dat dat bij de keren erna niet meer kwam, maar toen hadden ze maar een uurtje.

In de 013 vorig jaar speelden ze ook Hold At All Costs en High Water Mark! Beetje jammer dat ze dan Devil To Pay oversloegen, maargoed.

Ben nu bezig met Travel in Stygian en Desert Rain te oefenen.. Pfff, word je echt niet goed van soms, die ritmepartijen.

Ik heb Devil To Pay niet gemist eigenlijk. Het is wel leuk hoor, die trilogie, maar ik heb hem nu één keer in zijn geheel gehoord, en één keer dan de twee laatste delen, en dat is toch echt wel genoeg. Doe me dan maar wat meer kortere nummers in dat half uur.

Iced Earth

Ik vond Wolf (Horror Show) eerst een saai nummer, daarna ging ik hem nog een paar keer luisteren en nu vind ik het een van de lekkerste nummers (sowieso van die cd) !

Wordt tijd dat ik deze mannen weer eens in actie zie, de laatste keer was volgens mij Graspop 2007.

Hmmm, denk niet dat Iced Earth dan nog echt boeiend gaat zijn. De tijd dat Tim Owens erbij zat vond ik het ook totaal oninteressant. Wel jammer, maar ik had de hoop op nieuw werk toch al een beetje opgegeven.

Bij de geplande festivaloptredens deze zomer, waaronder Graspop en Wacken Open Air, zal Matt Barlow voor een laatste maal te zien zijn.

Na het horen van de nieuwe versie van Dante's Inferno, meteen kaarten gekocht voor 1 van de concerten! Die kerel kan behoorlijk zingen zeg en imo lijkt ie een beetje op Barlow.

Ik mag me tot de gelukkige rekenen die het afscheidsconcert van Barlow heeft gezien op Wacken en die kerel is imo de beste zanger voor IE, maar Stu gaat het ook prima doen!

Ben ik het helemaal mee eens. Vind die nieuwe Dante's Inferno trouwens ook erg lekker klinken inderdaad. Die nieuwe zanger vind ik in elk geval al een stuk beter klinken dan Tim Owens :)

Hm, nieuwe album klinkt niet slecht. Maar ik ben ze al vrij lang uit het oog verloren (ik heb niets bewust meegekregen van de 2 albums voor dit album B-)).

Misschien toch maar weer eens een concert meepikken :).
