For around a fortnight the rumour has been that actor Shia LaBeouf was attached to the upcoming "Indiana Jones IV", and yesterday morning the trades pretty much confirmed the reports.

Now the tables have been turned as last night at a Sony promotional event for "Surf's Up", LaBeouf says it's nothing more than an internet rumor than has run amok.

According to Collider, LaBeouf apparently not only stuck to the story on and off the record but also made it pretty clear that "he was done playing those types of roles" in regards to playing comic relief in blockbuster movies.

Would he deny it if offered though? The IESB says according to him "depends on what the script is about, he doesn't want to go in as just a sidekick character".

He also indicated that "Transformers" got an R rating, but a call from Spielberg to the MPAA asking for appeal eventuated into a PG-13.

Cate Blanchett has signed on to star in the fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" adventures says The Hollywood Reporter.

David Koepp's screenplay is being kept under wraps so it is unclear what character Blanchett will play, though sources indicate it's a major role.

Harrison Ford already has boarded the project, which will be produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Steven Spielberg.

Shooting will begin in June in Los Angeles and at undisclosed locations around the world. The film will get a release on May 22nd 2008.

It's craziness over in "Indiana Jones" land as casting rumours emerge, get shot down and then quietly re-emerge again.

First up as we know, back on Friday actress Cate Blanchett was supposedly signed for the fourth film to play a love interest.

Well, now that's been scaled back a bit as according to TheRaider.Net, who got the word directly from Dreamworks, Blanchett "has not signed on yet but she IS in negotiations for a part".

Meanwhile actress Gong Li ("Hannibal Rising," "Miami Vice") is, according to The Taiwan United, reportedly considering an offer for a role in "a big-budget Hollywood film in June which she's now in negotiations [about]". Of course this has immediately set suspicions that it is for 'Indiana' which begins shooting this June in Los Angeles.

Finally, despite his numerous public media denials, Shia LaBeouf is also supposedly confirmed for the film according to various sources.

Movie mogul George Lucas refuses to give up on recruiting Sean Connery for the fourth Indiana Jones movie, despite the Scottish star's reluctance to sign on as the adventurer's father. Connery has been linked to the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie, but insists he's not that interested in reprising his role as Henry Jones from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. That hasn't stopped persistent Lucas, who says, "We're still trying." In other Indiana Jones casting news, Lucas admits he was stunned when director Steven Spielberg told him he wanted to sign Cate Blanchett as Jones' love interest in the new film. He tells newspaper USA Today, "That's who my director wanted and I always bow to the wishes of my director. I approved it because she seemed like a good idea. When I met her at the Academy Awards, I told her, 'Hey, you work for me now!'"

George Lucas spoke with USA Today this week and of course the topic of the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie came up.

Of course the big questions is how will 64-year-old star Harrison Ford be convinicingly up for all the rough and tumble action?

"He's not running in any of the movies. He's either on a horse or driving a car or a motorcycle. And he'll play his age in this movie with what's appropriate. The chases are more suspenseful than speedy. Like the rolling ball in the first film -- it's not that he's running that fast, it's that there's a giant ball coming at him." says Lucas.

One tradition will be maintained though - "he will get beat up." Sean Connery has yet to sign on as Indiana's father, but Lucas says "we're still trying." He also won't go into detail about the 'top secret filming locations', but drops that one will be a waterfall.

As for the official title? It's being kept under wraps until the first trailer hits theaters around Thanksgiving.

George Lucas spoke to USA Today yesterday about the fourth Indiana Jones film and delivered a masterclass in saying a lot without actually giving anything away.

So, what did we learn from Lucas's chat with the venerable publication?

* The full name of the film will be kept under wraps until the first trailer is released on Thanksgiving in the US. Since we don't have Thanksgiving in the UK – we just eat what we want and give thanks to no-one, NO-ONE! – we'll just call it the last weekend in November.
* Cate Blanchett, who's role is still unspecified, was Spielberg's choice. "That's who my director wanted and I always bow to my director," said Lucas. "I approved her because she seemed like a good idea".
* Sean Connery is not yet signed to return as Indy Sr. "We're still trying," is all Lucas would say.
* The film will shoot in several top secret locations, including one that features a waterfall. Niagra? The Amazon? Logger's Leap at Thorpe Park? Who knows?
* You should never talk to strangers and it's good to co-operate. Wait, no that was Sesame Street. It was sponsored by the letters A and P and the number 4. Oscar was grouchy.

Indiana Jones and the City of Gods

In an interview with Dutch website toschestation, producer Rick McCallum talked about plans for the DVD release of "Young Indiana Jones" and the current status of the live-action "Star Wars" TV series. Here's an excerpt:

You mentioned "Young Indiana Jones". When will it finally be released on DVD?

We are hoping that the first set will be released just before Christmas. I'm not sure about the date since Paramount is releasing it. Since Star Wars was finished one of the things we have been doing was making 94 documentaries which will be completed by the end of this month. (editors note: april 2007) These go with the TV series. There is a historical timeline that takes you trough the life of Young Indy and incredible documentaries about the people that he meets. That was a fun and fantastic experience.

Will "Young Indiana Jones" be used as a blueprint for the upcoming live action Star Wars television series?

Most people forget that it takes three and a half, four years to make a Star Wars film. It's long and that is why we are so excited to make the TV series because it's much more character driven, you make a mistake one week and fix it the next week. You got this extraordinary story of twenty years between Episode III and IV while Luke is growing up that needs to be explored. So, we are looking forward to it. One of the things we are also looking forward to is finding a new group of talent to work with on feature films very much the same way as we did with Young Indy. Almost everyone that worked on Young Indy stayed with us for seventeen years or longer and some are still with us. Now we're gonna start off with a new group, the next generation of filmmakers.

Could you tell us something about the status of the Star Wars television series? Something about the actors maybe?

I can't tell you anything about actors because we're not there yet. This is a long process to get it right. First of all: where are we going to shoot? Then: who's going to write? And finally: who's going to direct? George has been working for the last seven, eight months on the story arc line of where the series goes. The dream is to do way over one hundred hours of it. If we can get it right, we have some fantastic characters that nobody has ever met before and start a whole other world of Star Wars that comes out every week instead of every three years.

Will any of the older characters appear in the series?

It's a whole different group of characters.

When do you expect the first episode will be televised?

That's tough. The TV world is changing a lot. Hopefully we will have finished the first episode by the end of 2008, so that in 2009 it can come out.

Seems much of the story will delve from Erich von Däniken's 1968 novel Chariots of the Gods?" which centers on the theory that many ancient civilizations' technologies and religion were given to them by space travelers who were welcomed as gods.

LaBeouf will apparently play a 50's guy thrown together with Indy who only later discovers that they're related. Crystal skulls are also said to play a key component.

Ik vind het wel spannend... kan echt alle kanten opgaan met deze film

Jim Broadbent will cameo in the fourth "Indiana Jones" film but won't be taking over the Doctor Marcus Brody character as earlier rumored.

BritFilms reports that Broadbent let slip he would have the cameo and that he would be playing a Professor at Yale University.

When the journalist suggested that he could be the new Brody character, hisresponse was: "That would do for me (laughs)."

Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Ray Winstone, Cate Blanchett and John Hurt star in the 50's set film which deals with Indy and the Russians in a race to discover the secret behind alien influence of ancient civilizations.

Ach... eigenlijk vind ik dat niet zo'n ramp. Anders was het helemáál een bejaardenfilm geworden

Nou ja, het was wel tof geweest als Connery (eventjes) had meegespeeld, maar eigenlijk maakt de deelname van Cate Blanchett mij enthousiaster dan Sean Connery mij ooit had kunnen maken
