Greetings from the righteous office babes up here in Buffalo, NY.
After 15 years of non-stop touring, often performing over 100 gigs per year, Ani DiFranco will take a hiatus from live performance, after the current July tour ends, until summer 2006.
Over the past few months, Ani has suffered from an inflammation of the nerves and tendons in both her wrists and hands. After having received a diagnosis of tendonitis in late spring, Ani's doctor instructed her to follow a regimen of relative rest, restriction of hand use to critical times, non-steroidal medications, and splinting. Unfortunately, after having taken almost three months off from touring earlier this year to treat her condition, Ani's problems have not decreased in severity. If she were to continue to perform at this time, she would risk permanent nerve damage to her hands. Therefore, the decision was made to cancel upcoming tours, starting with the West Coast tour planned for late August and early September 2005, and provide Ani with a sufficient amount of time to make a full recovery.
For those who already have tickets to one of the cancelled performances, please check with the people you purchased the tickets from for instructions on receiving a refund.
Although the Little Folksinger will be off the road, naturally she will not be quiet. Several new recording projects with longtime friends are in the works, along with a new album from Ani anticipated for 2006. She will also still participate as a featured speaker in the New Yorker Festival on September 24 in New York City.

Ja. Dat is bijzonder naar. Daar heeft ze trouwens ook een concert in Nederland in Tivoli voor afgezegt, wat nooit genoemt is in dit topic. Helaas. Het duurt dus nog een tijdje voordat ik haar weer mag zien.
Knuckle Down is trouwens een absoluut geniaal album. Vooral "Manhole" is heel mooi, maar het hele album is stukken beter dan Educated Guess, wat ik voorlopig nog steeds heel slecht vindt.

Ik ben zwaar fan van Knuckle Down. Misschien wel het mooiste album wat ik dit jaar heb gekocht. Manhole, Sunday Morning, Modulation, Recoil, Minerva, eigenlijk alle nummers zijn super.

Het eerste nieuwe nummer, Hypnotize, is al te beluisteren op de site. En het is toch wel weer heel anders dan Knuckle Down. Het is wennen, denk ik. Maar wel mooi.

Er is een echte verzamelaar op komst, maar Ani live is sowieso waar ze het meest in haar element is. Little Plastic Castle, het album direct na Living in Clip, is mijn alltime favourite. Voor de rest, tja, ze is in de loop der tijd allerhande dingen gaan proberen. De directe stijl van Living in clip komt bijvoorbeeld goed uit op albums als Out of range en Imperfectly, Not a pretty girl en Dilate zijn wat poppier (maar nog steeds Ani) en vanaf To the teeth t/m Evolve kwamen er muziekstijlen als soul en jazz om de hoek kijken. Daarna is ze weer solo gegaan, maar het is allemaal wat minder bevlogen dan wat je hoort op Living in clip. Grappig. Gisteren toevallig Ani weer opgezet omdat Q. met Nick Drake als herfstmuziek aan het dwepen was. Ik prefereer Grey .

Het was vanavond weer tof. Swim en two little girls mag ze wel een keertje overslaan 
, maar Both Hands en 32 Flavors had ik weer een hele tijd niet gehoord 
. En de voorprogramma's (Hamell on trial en Anais Mitchell) waren ook perfect om het publiek helemaal in de stemming te krijgen.

Ben even wat van haar gaan zoeken nadat ik zo weg was van het album van Alain Mitchell waarop Ani meezingt, en het is zeer fijn!
Heb Not A Pretty Girl, maar ik lees al dat ik vooral haar live albums moet uitchecken? Ik ga eens wat opzoeken
