Opgericht door een voormalige techneut van Black Sabbath, Joe DeMaio, Ross The Boss, Erick Adams en drummer Donnie Hamzik, Manowar was een van de vele Black Sabbath kloonbandjes. Met slechts een uitzondering, hun debuutalbum Battle Hymns heeft een nummer, Dark Avenger, met een gesproken stuk tekst, ingesproken door niemand minder dan Orson Welles.
Manowar kreeg pas echte bekendheid na het aantrekken van een nieuwe drummer die zijn kits met regelmaat naar de knoppen sloeg, Scott Columbus, en het tekenen van een contract bij een ander platenlabel.
Op zich weinig bijzonders, ware het niet dat zij hun contract in hun eigen bloed tekenden.
In die tijd een teken aan de wand voor de vele Sabbath fans, die uitbreiding van hun collectie zochten.
Manowar streeft slechts naar één ding, en dat is zo luid mogelijk spelen. "The whole purpose of playing live is to blow people's heads off," zegt bassist Joey DeMaio. Dit doen ze dan ook regelmatig.
Hun nummers zijn een mix van ouderwetse Metalriffs, gecombineerd met teksten over oorlog, geweld, mythen en sagen. Hun concerten zijn zoals je een ouderwetse jaren 80 Metalband verwacht te spelen, vol lang haar, pyrotechnics, herrie, metaal, motoren en veel decibellen. Manowar heeft nog steeds het record voor de meeste decibellen tijdens een concert op hun naam.

manowar heeft 2 december het derde deel uit hun muzikale biografie uitgebracht, namelijk Hell on Earth III.
Je kan je eigenlijk geen Metalfan noemen als je niet hier en daar wat Manowar hebt opgepikt in je eeuwige zoektocht naar het ultieme metalgeluid.
En aangezien het wel tijd werd voor een topic over deze Metalgoden, waar Halford nog een tiet aan kan groeien (eh sebbo 
) bij deze!

Warriors of the World is de enige die ik vind zuigen. Battle Hymns is ook zo'n super album

Ik heb deze.

Ben sinds enige jaren helemaal wild van ze, heb inmiddels alle cd's, wat shirts, een Manowar jas en ander spul.
Mocht ze al 2 keer live meemaken, en ben hierdoor nog meer van ze gaan houden.
(ik sta zelfs ergens op de dvd zichtbaar vooraan tijdens een optreden)
Buiten de muziek vind ik de bandleden zelf ook erg lekker om te zien en te horen, en vooral Karl kan mijn hormonen wel aanspreken
Tijdens concerten valt me de goede sfeer en het hoge mannengehalte altijd op. Veels te weinig vrouwen, daar moet echt iets aan gedaan worden hoor !
Mijn droom is ooit nog backstage te mogen, en niet om de groupie uit te hangen, maar wel om met mijn idolen over hun muziek te praten.
Dus wie dit kan regelen moet me snel mailen
Drum sinds enige maanden zelf, en hoop over enige jaren alle nummers mee te kunnen spelen. Vind vooral de oudere cd's het beste, maar er zijn weinig nummers die ik echt niks vind.
Favorieten zijn o.a. Blood of the Kings, Spirit Horse (heb titel fout geloof ik, ben er niet zo goed in), Courage (mijn ultieme kote voel nr), de cover Lady Marmalade (ultieme sex nr) en nog een stuk of tig.
Heb nu al een paar keer mensen meegemaakt die Manowar lachwekkend vonden, maar na een concert van ze hierop terug kwamen. Ze zetten een geweldige show neer, en maken een stevig en super potje geluid. En de zanger heeft de meest geweldige stem en volume die er is !

Ja Manowar is idd wel cool, het laatste album is wel grappig en ik heb ook nog een best of cd. Waar komt trouwens die Duitse versie van Heart of steel vandaan?
Ik heb hier net Sting of the Bumble bee op staan, zit De Maio te fingertappen op een bas. Ik kende dit klassieke nummer Flight of the Bumble bee van Rimski Korsakov al in een moderne uitvoering van de wereldgitariste Jennifer Batten onder de orginele naam.

Erg leuke/goeie muziek staat erop, m'n favo's tot nu toe: call to arms, warriors of the world united, fight for freedom, hand of doom.
Vooral als die zanger z'n stem wat rauwer laat klinken; bijvoorbeeld in Warriors of the world united op 4:26
Kent iemand nog andere albums van hun die erg goed klinken?...de betere albums die ze gemaakt hebben dus
