Tony Thompson, drummer for Power Station and Chic, has died of cancer at the age of 48.Thompson had only been diagnosed with renal cancer, a disease of the kidneys, earlier this month.
His death also comes two months after the loss of singer Robert Palmer who died of a heart attack in Paris.
Thompson's career started in the early 70s when he played with Labelle (Lady Marmalade) and then he moved on to Chic. With Chic, he featured on the hits 'Good Times', 'Le Freak' and 'Dance Dance Dance'.
Tony continued the dance with David Bowie as drummer for his 'Let's Dance' album and in concert with him on the Serious Moonlight tour.
As a member of Power Station he played with Palmer and Duran Duran's John and Andy Taylor. Their hits included 'Some Like It Hot' and 'Get It On'.
Thompson also played with Led Zeppelin as the replacement for John Bonham at their Live Aid gig in 1985.
His session work includes albums by Madonna, Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart.
