Dan zal het een schrale troost zijn dat Pinkerton in de top 20 stond van top 100 beste CD's ooit volgens de Rolling Stone lezers. Oh ironie. 
En als ik eerlijk ben, vind ik Pinkerton juist een van de beste CD's uit mijn collectie. Kun je blijven draaien, verveelt niet en zit eigenlijk gewoon perfect in elkaar. Met The Blue Album heb ik dat ook wel een beetje, maar die vind ik net een fractie minder.
Moet wel eerlijk bekennen dat ik van zowel The Green Album als van Maladroit weliswaar alle nummers wel een keer gehoord heb, maar niet direct in album-vorm. Heb de CD's ook nooit aangeschaft, wellicht toch wat terughoudend geweest vanwege de vernietigende recensies. En 28 minuten muziek voor 20 euro (The Green Album) voelt toch verkeerd aan... Ik wacht wel tot ie wordt afgeprijsd denk ik.
Keep Fishin' als nummer vind ik overigens wel het sterkste Weezer-nummer sinds Pinkerton.
Hoe vaak ik dat album wel niet heb gedraaid..jee ik had hem eerst alleen nog op tape maar later gelukkig ook op cd.. Ik weet niet waarom maar "El Scorcho" doet het uhm voor mij..

Als je het verhaal hieronder leest dan krijg je de indruk dat ze dit keer weer echt tijd nemen om goede nummers te schrijven.

Weezer Toiling On Numerous Projects
Weezer fans wouldn't be blamed for being a bit confused as to the group's working schedule. After releasing only two albums during its first seven years of existence, the band dropped the Geffen sets "Weezer" ("The Green Album") and "Maladroit" in May 2001 and May 2002, respectively. Now the Weezer camp is hard at work on a variety of projects.First, the group is in the pre-production stages for its fifth studio album, cutting demos and rehearsing. It plans to start recording in the late summer or fall with, as previously reported, celebrated producer Rick Rubin.
Weezer has recorded a number of new tracks for compilations, and is working on a DVD, a special edition reissue of its debut album and a brand-new studio set. As previously reported, the group is contributing an unreleased 1995 demo titled "You Won't Get With Me Tonight" to "Gimme Skelter," a compilation album due in September from Buddyhead Records.
A live recording of "Why Bother" was included on the Petra Haden benefit double 7" on Vegas Records, and Weezer is also readying a newly recorded cover of Green Day's "Worry Rock" for the Green Day tribute "A Different Shade of Green," released this week by Skunk Ape Records.
The DVD is expected to be released by December but no details are yet available as to its content. The group's official Web site says the main content of the disc is finished, with a projected running time of more than three hours. The site also says the band is working on ideas for an expanded reissue of its 1994 Geffen debut, "Weezer" ("The Blue Album").

For a while there, it looked like Weezer was going to push it into Zappa gear and start cranking their discs out like they eat breakfast. Maladroit, the band's quickie sequel to their 2001 comeback album, opened to so-so sales and reviews, and was surely their weakest effort yet. But one has to kinda admire the pure speed of its arrival, especially since it contained at least two instant classics ("Dope Nose" and "Keep Fishin'"). The whole scenario looked even more impressive when the group started the rumor mill churning on album five, which was originally slated for earlier this year. But then the band, or possibly just Rivers Cuomo, simply... gave up? So it's a little difficult to report on their next album, now that the wheels are in motion again, simply because no one has any idea what to expect. Will it contain throwaway Maladroit tracks like "Private Message" and "Sandwiches Time?" Is it the same album they started working on last year, or did they start everything all over from scratch? Will all the guitar solos still mimic the vocals?Only Cuomo knows for sure, but the we can tell ya that Rick Rubin has been signed on as producer for some time now. He told Billboard that Cuomo's latest outpourings are deeply personal, in fact, "deeper than he's ever gone." So, Pinkerton part two it is. The band has been practicing and recording demos with Rubin (a process you can investigate via photos of roundtable singalongs available at the official site) and the final recording will go down some time next summer or fall, for release on Geffen. No tentative release date yet, just some time next year. Unless they scrap it again (which they might).
Meanwhile, an unused 1995 demo track, "You Won't Get With Me Tonight," will be released on Gimme Skelter, a Buddyhead compilation of exclusive rare tracks from popular bands such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Le Tigre. That comes out October 21st on Nettwerk Records, wrapping up several odds-and-end releases for Weezer-- including a live version of "Why Bother" (from a Vegas Records seven-inch benefiting ex-That Dog violinstress Petra Haden) and a cover of "Worry Rock" on the recent Green Day tribute album, A Different Shade of Green.
And finally, bringing to a close to this near-novel of somewhat boring Weezer information, there's a DVD in the works, and an upcoming "special edition" of the band's groundbreaking self-titled "Blue Album" debut. The former is almost finished, according to the official site, and waiting for band commentaries to be affixed to the somewhat secret contents. The latter will be a two-disc set collecting all the Blue Album B-sides, along with some other rare and unreleased songs and heavy duty liners, no doubt explaining everything about Weezer that I haven't just told you. So watch out for all that. Maybe one day, if they keep working hard, they'll be your favorite band again and you can fly the winged "W" with pride.

Maar dat vind ik ook van Butterfly, Across The Sea, The Good Life, Falling For You en Tired Of Sex. Eigenlijk vind ik gewoon Pinkerton als geheel één groot hoogtepunt.

Maar het is heel erg een kwestie van smaak uiteraard. Mij bevalt die rauwe sound van Pinkerton nou eenmaal, en het voegt voor mij wat net dat kleine beetje extra toe.

well, its been a long time coming, but from 'on high', we have a tentative release date for BOTH "Video Capture Device" (the Weezer DVD), AND The Blue Album Deluxe Edition: March 23, 2004. (Now, "tentative" means they have put them on their release schedule, and this date is subject to revision. But - if the release date is in fact changed, it won't be changed by much.)Thats right, The DVD and the Deluxe Blue Album are coming out on the same day. As previously reported here, the DVD will have over 3 hours of videos, mini-documentaries, live footage, and behind the scenes action dating from 1991-2002, and will have optional band member commentary on many of the DVD's selections. The Deluxe Blue Album will be a 2 disc set that includes the blue album and a disc with all the b-sides and a selection of rare and very rare tracks, plus a big fat booklet with lots of stuff to read and tons of pix, many never before seen.
In the coming weeks/months, the release date will be confirmed and youll see the cover art for the dvd. At the moment, the DVD's final assembly and production session is slated for the beginning of February. As more info becomes known it will appear on this news page. Thanks to all the fans for your support and patience on these projects!
Op die dvd zit ik niet zo heel erg te wachten eigenlijk, maar waarschijnlijk zal ik hem toch wel even aanschaffen. Als ze slim zijn zetten er ze wat livemateriaal uit de Pinkerton periode op.
