Begint er wel op te lijken zo

Na alles gelezen te hebben wil ik me graag aansluiten bij de Darlington fanclub!! Helaas net te laat voor de wedstrijd van het seizoen tegen de losers van Carlisle, maar toch.

En als we degraderen doen we dat strijdend, gezien de acht rode kaarten van dit seizoen

Quakers lose loan signings

Darlington manager David Hodgson has lost his battle to keep hold of loan signings Craig James and Lee Matthews.
Sunderland defender James has ended a two-month loan spell at the Division Three outfit, preferring to return to the Stadium of Light instead.

And Matthews has been called back by Bristol City for financial reasons.

"They wanted to keep Lee but as they are in administration there was a doubt whether they could come up with the money," said Robins boss Danny Wilson.

"One or two other clubs have expressed interest in him and I'll be having a chat with him about that," he told the club website.

Matthews made six starts for the Quakers, scoring once.

James, 21, turned down an extension to his stay at the Reynolds Arena after making 10 appearances.

Reynolds took over the club with designs on taking them to the Premiership and, to that end, oversaw the building of the 27,000-seat Reynolds Arena.

However, he leaves with the club one place off the bottom of the Third Division, having not won a match for more than a month.

The administrators are expected to release a statement of affairs, revealing the scale of the club's debts later in the week.

Field added: "Although George was a director, his role since 23 December has just been to assist the administrators.

"He has been very useful in giving us information on finances and the running of the company.

"My understanding is that he will not be at the premises after today. He has personal items he wants to sort out, but after that he will be away from the premises."

Meanwhile, the club's Supporters Trust, part of a consortium interested in bidding for the Quakers, will hold a meeting to try and work out how they can raise a £250,000.

It is hoped that the Trust can raise the money by the end of March to help secure the club's future.

Darlington are ready to party.

At a re-launch party on July 9, supporters will be handed the chance to rename Bar 66 at the new arena.

Changing the name of the bar, and making it more welcoming for supporters, is part of a wider scheme to re-brand the club.

Manager David Hodgson and some of the players will attend the event at which fans can suggest a new name for the bar, which will have new seating and more football memorabilia on display.

The bar will also be open this weekend for the first Euro 2004 games.

All drinks will be £1 a pint, and season ticket holders will get one pint free.

The club can now officially gear up for next season, as the Football League has approved the takeover by the Sterling Consortium.

The League's decision completes an amazing spell for the club, which has survived closure and avoided relegation in a hectic few weeks.

The Gazette exclusively revealed earlier in the year that Sterling would take over.

Now that the deal has officially gone through, Hodgson can sign players and try to plot a promotion campaign.

Boro goalkeeper Sam Russell and Wrexham midfielder Steve Thomas have already agreed to sign, and veteran ex-Boro striker Dean Windass will make a decision next week.

Hodgson has also identified several other potential targets, including a striker likely to spend a season on loan from a Premiership club.

The club will now look to the fans to rally round.

Many claimed they refused to attend games during the reign of colourful former chairman George Reynolds.

But now that he has severed all links with the club, stay-away fans are expected to snap up season tickets and pledge their support.

The ex-chairman's "buy one get one free" initiative last year, led to the club having a record 2,800 season ticket holders.

With reasonable prices, the club now hopes to match that figure, even without the free tickets offer.

New commercial manager Bob Gorrill arrived today, and he will immediately look for sponsors for the stadium.

The club would like the former Reynolds Arena to be renamed before the start of the season.

Former Darlington defender Richard Hope is expected to quit relegated York, and sign for Division Three new boys Chester.

Reynolds loses legal bid to have cash returned

Former Darlington Football Club chairman George Reynolds today lost a legal bid to force police to hand over £500,000 seized when he was arrested on suspicion of money-laundering.

The flamboyant businessman, a one-time safe-cracker who went on to build a multi-million business empire, was fighting the seizure made under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

He was arrested along with business associates Richard Tennick and Ian Robinson on Monday.

In the boot of Mr Reynolds' car police found £500,000 in cash.

All three were quizzed by police for eight hours before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

At Darlington Magistrates' Court today, police and officers from the Regional Assets Recovery Team were seeking a three-month forfeiture under civil law of the cash to allow further investigations to the source of the money.

Police believe the cash is part of an £800,000 sum paid to Mr Reynolds by Darlington FC.

Mr Reynolds denies this and said the money had been paid to him by two members of the Sterling Consortium.

They had saved the club from extinction after buying it out of administration.

Mr Reynolds was born in Sunderland and spent half his childhood in an orphanage. Later came a string of convictions and jail sentences.

On his release he moved into the kitchen worktop business and created a company that earned him millionaire status.

He bought Darlington FC in 1999 and spent millions attempting to transform The Quakers fortunes, but the club finished seventh from bottom of Football League and Division Three this season.

He quit as chairman in January when Darlington went into administration.

JPs accepted the application but with a limit of just 28 days meaning police will have to come back to court by July 14 to seek a further order. They also rejected a bid by the prosecutor, Graham Duff, to ban the publication of today's proceedings under The Contempt of Court Act.

Det Sgt Martin Fleming, from the Regional Assets Recovery Team, told the court that the case centred upon sums transferred from Darlington FC to Mr Reynolds.

``My suspicion at the time and the reasons for the seizure of these funds is based on some unlawful conduct.

``Until we have conducted the investigation we will not be able to say whether the cash has been derived from unlawful conduct.''

Mr Reynolds, 67, of Witton Hall, Witton-le-Wear, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, told the court: ``All I have done is sold my house and taken the cash out. It is my money and I can do what I want with it.''

During a theatrical performance, Mr Reynolds, who was ranked in a Sunday newspaper's 2000 rich list as being worth £260 million, added: ``It is very, very sad and a great miscarriage of justice. I have sold my house and got the money from the bank and I can do what I want with it.''

He claimed he had invested £27 million of his money into Darlington and had got just £150,000 back when he left, which he described as ``chicken feed''.

The money was for ``personal effects'' that included a £21,000 Gucci table and chairs that Mr Reynolds had bought, the court heard.

JP John Robinson said the bench was satisfied the police needed further time to investigate and granted a temporary forfeiture order for 28 days.
