This was playing on my TV set as I came downstairs one evening. I don't think anybody knew what it was. There was some dark, cheap-looking scene with ************* and ************ (de twee meisjes ) together in a room. They looked like they were kissing. Needless to say, it was turned off quickly.

************ wasn't much of an actress at that age (still isn't, in my opinion), but she's very effective nonetheless. She doesn't need to act, she needs to do what she does, look sexy. Really, really sexy, like it's all she ever thinks about.
************** gives the film a sympathetic center, she's excellent as a bright, likeable high school girl who finds herself in far over her head when she befriends poor little bad girl ****************. Her misery and frustration as ************ takes over her family, her life, even her dog are moving enough to make the flimsy story work.
Leuke detail in deze film is dat de moeder van haar vriendin gespeeld wordt door Cheryl Ladd, voormalig Angel van Charlie
Anders heb ik nu wel een leuke trivia vraag
" " could have been one of those movies you really loved when you were a kid but still like them as an adult. But it fails to do so as it turns into one big cliche in the end and the final result was just another kid movie. Nice acting, nice music, nice story (but only till the end "climax"), and some nice scenes(especially the ones in school) that really made the movie enjoyable. Too bad the ending spoils it. The bad guy (basically your average rock-a-billy pedofile) goes to jail, the kids are saved, the good guys get rich, bla bla bla. Despite starting off very promising this movie just turns too Hollywood-ish in the end. Could have been up there with "Goonies" and "Flight of the navigator". 6/10"
&
"This has to be the most under-rated, under-valued and criminally under-seen film of all time. Funny, touching, nostalgic in a good way, a wonderful tribute to the very joy of film itself and, the clincher, a cast of kids that never get on your nerves. And even in any of the films he has been in,
has never bettered his performance from this movie. If you love the movies, you'll love this film. See it; then see it again and again. It really is the undiscovered artistic masterpiece of the 20th Century."

also offers a lot of not-so-subtle counterpoints between the atmosphere and common wisdom of the era (anybody remember Civil Defense drills? Bomb shelters? The "four" basic food groups?), and its stark comparison to what we know/think today. When this movie was made, the cold war was just over, and a look back to the pervasive feel throughout the 50's and 60's and its worrying about the "bomb" and anti-commie lingo makes the people of this era look supremely paranoid and silly, until one thinks about how even this has changed since the movie was made (think post 9-11: who's silly and paranoid now?).
The movie is enjoyable on many levels, although I feel the comparisons between the 60's and "today" could have been made a bit more subtle. As a counterpoint, my wife, who was never a fan of the horror movie genre, dislikes this movie--she also disliked "Ed Wood" for the same reason.
All in all, it's a wonderful movie that I'm glad to have in my VHS collection."

Wilde gok: IT
Anyway, this is a good movie, on many levels. If you are a 50's (not 60's as has been stated in other reviews) movie fan you will recognize the films this one is paying tribute to. It also is looking at the last days of 50's innocence, with the wild 60's already creeping in. ,long overlooked by Hollywood, does a fine job of playing the last of the movie showman. In the decades before video, before "independent film" became classy, these guys had to sell their movies town by town. With T.V. breathing down their necks they had to re-invent the movie experience, most often on a shoe-string budget. AMC's "Ballyhoo" covered this era quite well and would be a nice companion piece.
The problem with this film, is that it is a lost gem. Seldom shown, seldom seen, and only a few video stores will carry it (saving the shelf space for "Starship Troopers"). But if you do find it, watch it. Show it to your parents (it was their era), and remember the next time you plunk $8.00 down for a summer blockbuster, there was a time when movie houses gave you a real show for your money.
