This film has a great opening shot, showing us where 
's character has his priorities. The friends he hangs with don't really know what they wanna do either and there is a lot of time spent actually avoiding real talk. Sooner or later 's character decides he wants to move on, he meets a girl and is interested in her because she has left the neighborhood, or is trying, and he is tying to find his escape.
When I watched this film for the first time my expectations were not high. I had heart a lot about this film but I had never seen a trailer or anything. This was 5 years ago. I never saw the complete film again. The reason. It was so boring. The film was lame, boring, predictable, sad, not funny, not well acted and dull. The only thing that saved it from being a total bomb was the music which I am afraid could have been used in a different movie.
is intelligent, realistic, multi layered and the subtleties of the various facets of the narrative are perfectly blended by an all perfect combination of performance, screenplay, direction and soundtrack. This movie speaks for a generation - not just for its style - but it explores universal and timeless themes in a powerful way through understatement, and questions this society through the dramatic device of characterization and relationships. The result is ultimately convincing and has genuine emotional impact. I've never seen any other film which seems as fresh and challenging after the tenth viewing as it did after the first.
It saddens me that so many of the wholly excellent cast members were unable to launch a consistent, internationally successful acting career following their triumph here in . However, their outstanding legacy from this movie will live on for many generations to come.
begins to realize there is more to life than just hanging out with his buddies and screwing every female in site. This film also covers the breakup of a family.I saw when it first came out--I was 5-years-old; now I'm 30, and I will always remember the powerful effect the movie had on me. Even at age 5, I was surprised at how great was and how engrossing the story and music were. And that's why I keep coming back to it--to relive that experience over and over and over...like a favorite record.

Over welke film hebben deze users het?"This movie is neither flawless or outstanding but it certainly hits on all the major points a good romantic comedy should have and does them well. It also throws in enough variety to seperate it from the usually painful cliches of romantic comedies. Any romantic comedy lives or dies with the chemistry and charisma the lead couple can produce. Both 
and turn in fantastic performances, truly playing their chracters and inviting us to live in their world and see things from their skewed perspectives. The fish out of water aspect of the story is played nicely but isn't especially madcap. Overall, the movie succeeds in all the areas it needs to."
