Echter, een goed beeld heb ik er niet van. Daarom de vraag aan jullie: zouden jullie een aantal echter kenmerkende Symfonische Rock nummers kunnen noemen? In de search worden heel veel groepen/artiesten genoemd. Weinig specefieke nummers. Ik weet zeker dat als ik op goed geluk zou zoeken, dat ik net de nummers vind die minder goed, of niet echt SR zijn.
Vandaar, welke specefieke nummers zijn echt kenmerkend/goed? Ik zoek niet de meer "toegankelijke/commerciële" nummers, maar de "echte" goeie.

Sympho is tegenwoordig een heel breed begrip. Oude Pink Floyd wordt wel eens tot sympho gerekend, evenals bijv. de oude Genesis en verder ook heel duidelijk een groep als Yes.
Tegenwoordig hebben de wat populairdere symphogroepen wel vaak raakvlakken met metal, zoals Dream Theater, Vandenplas, Symphony X.
Van hard en bombastich tot zeer rustig en intiem!!!

Wat ik heel goed vind is The Alan Parsons Project. De live cd is helemaal geweldig!!! Valt Alan Parsons project er onder? Nummers als I robot, Prime Time, Lucifer, Psychobabble, Pipeline, Eye in the sky. Een wat rustiger nummer van hen, ook heel goed: The eagle will rise again.
Electric Light Orchestra heb ik de "Definitive Collection" van. Is dit nu niet juist de niet-symfo nummers?
Wat mij ertoe bracht dit topic te openen is het "idee" wat ik fan symfo kreeg: wat 'langdradige' rock, niet meteen bam het refrein, maar langzaam opbouwend.
Dit klinkt mij in de oren als precies wat ik goed vind, alleen kende ik het dus niet

Kan iemand anders gewoon een goede beschrijving van Symfonische Rock geven?

inmiddels wordt het meer progressive genoemd, een unieke mix van allerlei invloeden.
jouw voorbeelden: Alan Parsons, ELO, dan zou ik voorlopig eerst voor Marillion gaan. Een hele goede oudere cd die je dan ook geweldig zal vinden is Misplaced Childhood.
