Charles de Batz de Castelmore bijnaam D'Artagnan.
D personages uit het beroemde boek van Alexandre Dumas zijn grotendeels gebaseerd op echte historische figuren uit de 17e eeuw. Vooral D'Artagnan (Charles de Batz de Castelmore) was een echte musketier die diende onder Lodewijk XIV en sneuvelde bij Maastricht in 1673. Athos, Porthos en Aramis waren ook gebaseerd op werkelijke musketiers, maar hun avonturen zijn zwaar geromantiseerd.

Het skelet werd gevonden in het schip van de Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk in de Maastrichtse wijk Wolder, vlak voor het huidige altaar. De huidige kerk is vermoedelijk de tweede of zelfs derde constructie op deze locatie, met wortels die teruggaan tot de 13de en mogelijk zelfs de 11de eeuw.
De Franse musketier Charles de Batz de Castelmore d’Artagnan, zoals hij voluit heette, sneuvelde tijdens een 17de-eeuwse veldslag in Maastricht.
