Ook Oekraïense militaire blogs zien de plaats in handen van de troepen uit Kiev.
De plaats is strategisch belangrijk omdat ze aan de westelijke oever van de rivier Scherebez ligt, die de opmars van de Russen in het gebied afremt.
De blog Deepstate bevestigde bovendien dat de Oekraïense soldaten een Russische opmars bij Dobropillja grotendeels hebben tenietgedaan.
Buitenlandse militaire waarnemers, zoals het Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in de VS, melden eveneens dat het Russische leger ondanks zijn overwicht deze zomer geen grote doorbraak heeft kunnen realiseren.

Our main efforts were focused on containing the enemy and inflicting the maximum possible losses on them. We had to stabilize the situation in the most threatening directions, such as Lyman, Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, while applying active defense tactics, regaining lost territories, protecting our cities from enemy missile and drone strikes, and striking deep into Russia.
At the same time, August was a month of organizational changes in the Armed Forces. We are completing the transition to a corps system; army corps are acquiring their powers, receiving troop sets, and responsibility sectors.
This reform is beginning to yield results. Command of the troops is becoming more effective and efficient.
Currently, the enemy has a threefold advantage in forces and means, and in the main directions of concentration of their efforts, they may outnumber us by four to six times. However, I express deep gratitude to our officers, sergeants, and especially soldiers: their professional skills, resilience, dedication, and courage are breaking the plans of the Russian occupiers.
In August, the enemy hoped to achieve strategic advantage, break through, and encircle our troops in the Pokrovsko-Myrnohrad agglomeration area, and planned large-scale offensive actions in the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions. However, our troops prevented these intentions from being realized. The Russians were forced to postpone the offensive in Zaporizhzhia and redeploy marine infantry units to Donetsk region.
In fact, the month in which the occupiers hoped for breakthroughs and made maximum efforts for this became the month with comparatively the smallest territorial gains for the enemy in recent times.
For example, on the Dobropillia direction, where the enemy formed an offensive group, the Russians captured 13.5 sq km but lost 25.5 sq km. On the Pokrovsk direction, their gain was 5 sq km, while our troops regained control over 26 sq km.
The defense forces prevented territorial losses in the Huliaipole and Prydniprovske directions, and in the North Slobozhansky direction, they also repelled 4 sq km.
The enemy uses a "creeping" tactic of advancing with small infantry groups, trying to infiltrate populated areas by using the inter-positional space and avoiding direct combat.
At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine have their own successes. During August, control was restored over 58 sq km of territory, and a number of settlements were liberated.
During this period, our Deep Strike assets hit 60 targets on Russian territory. The capabilities of the Russian Federation to produce fuel and lubricants for the army, their aviation strike assets, missiles and UAVs, air defense systems were weakened, and the functioning of the transport system was disrupted.
Overall, our drones struck more than 67,000 enemy objects last month. And the effectiveness of strikes under the Middle Strike program increased by 25%.
The meeting also discussed problematic issues and proposals for their resolution.
I set specific tasks for the next period. We still have a lot of work ahead, but we are defending our land, and we are on the right course: to exhaust the enemy, to destroy them, to achieve the necessary results for Ukraine.
In August alone, the occupiers' personnel losses amounted to 28,790 people.
Since the beginning of 2025, 297,350 Russian invaders have been killed or wounded.
