Al maandenlang wordt er op universiteiten in heel Amerika geprotesteerd tegen het beleid van de regering-Biden ten aanzien van Israël en Gaza. Nu de humanitaire situatie in Gaza steeds nijpender wordt, worden de demonstraties feller. Studenten hebben tentenkampen opgezet op campussen, hun demonstraties gaan dag en nacht door.
Afgelopen woensdag begon het protest op de Columbia University in New York, sindsdien heeft het zich als een olievlek over andere universiteiten verspreid. De studenten en soms ook docenten die zich aansluiten bij het protest, eisen een staakt-het-vuren en hebben felle kritiek op president Biden, die ze de bijnaam 'Genocide Joe' gegeven hebben. Ze vinden dat hij vooral de kant van Israël kiest en weinig aandacht heeft voor de Palestijnen.

Ik was vroeger weleens verdwaald en eindigde ik in ACU in Utrecht (radicaal links bolwerk). Daar spraken ze ook over komende demonstraties in het weekend, als je dan vroeg waarvoor ze gingen demonstreren keken je ze raar aan. "Gewoon om te demonstreren" was het enige antwoord wat ze hadden.quote:
