UFC teams with Cosm for shared reality experience
quote:UFC PPVs will soon be captured live in Cosm’s Shared Reality experience as part of a new multiyear partnership. This is the second such sports deal for Cosm, which announced a similar arrangement with the NBA in February to begin broadcasting select games in immersive 8K across the entertainment company’s under-construction viewing domes.
“This is the closest thing that I've ever seen, from a technological execution, that allows you to get as close to the feeling of attending a live event as you possibly could without being there,” said UFC Chief Content Officer and Exec Producer Craig Borsari said. “It's all-consuming is the way I would really summarize it. You can't help but be in awe when you're in the facility, looking at our sport the way it's displayed in the dome.”
The premise of Cosm is to produce rich video and spatial audio across a quarter-sphere dome in a way that immerses the viewer without the need of a headset or other device. It plans to offer the hospitality or a club or suite experience from a sporting event for attendees to view live events. The UFC rights deal will encompass the main fight card for the roughly monthly PPV events. The fact that fans of combat sports already are used to paying a premium to watch the biggest bouts on TV or at bars lends itself to attracting them to a Cosm theater.

A Bellator official tells MMA Fighting that the scratch was due to weight management issues on Borg’s side. The one-time UFC title challenger has had problems making the flyweight limit in the past, and his most recent four bouts had taken place at bantamweight. Borg signed with the promotion after winning three straight decisions competing for Eagle FC and UAE Warriors.
