Framatome, zoals de kerncentrale heet, zou hebben gewaarschuwd voor een "aanstaande radiologische dreiging", schrijft de Amerikaanse nieuwszender. Zo zou de Chinese veiligheidsautoriteit de stralingslimieten in de omgeving van de kerncentrale hebben verhoogd, om te voorkomen dat de centrale moest sluiten.
Framatome zelf zegt nu dus in een verklaring dat er weliswaar sprake is van een "prestatieprobleem", maar dat er geen risico is voor de veiligheid. "Ons team werkt samen met experts om de situatie te beoordelen en oplossingen voor te stellen om ieder mogelijk probleem aan te pakken."
Is er mogelijk een kans op een meltdown, of zal het allemaal wel meevallen? Hoe dan ook, evt. vrijkomende straling of erger zou China weer negatief in het nieuws zetten na Corona...

Framatome had reached out to the US in order to obtain a waiver that would allow them to share American technical assistance in order to resolve the issue at the Chinese plant. There are only two reasons why this waiver would be granted, and one is an "imminent radiological threat," the same verbiage used in the June 8 memo.
The memo claims the Chinese limit was increased to exceed French standards, yet it remains unclear how that compares to US limits.
