quote:I'm going to pull together some disparate comments...
- The orbital launch tower will get cladding, as evidenced by the vertical tabs on the outside of the horizontal cross braces. This would not be done on a temporary tower. But regardless of that, it's quite obvious that this is a permanent tower. This cladding will most likely be vertical strips.
- For the elevator folks, the tower already has internal diagonal horizontal braces. This was known because the horizontal cross braces has tabs angled at 45 degrees. This does not mean no elevator, indeed I fully expect it to have one, but just not in an obvious place. personally I doubt it will run straight up the center because there is no stringers set up to make the frame for the shaft AND the short columns being built at the gas well site have internal framing in the middle. It is my guess that these short column sections will form floors periodically up the building. The elevator will run up one side of the central floor area, and a staircase up the other (see red box in attached image)
- For those folks saying the short columns at the gas well site are build jigs, I point out that they would just need to anchor the four columns to the concrete pads - there is no need for all that massive cross bracing. None. If you question this, then I suggest you research the Falcon9 jig they use to securely mount the booster in order to fold up the legs. It's four columns, firmly fixed to concrete pads, with no cross connections. And this is to hold a tall slender booster in Florida / SoCal coastal winds. #NotAJig. No - what they are building at the gas well site are floor levels for the tower.
