https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Sahara_WarIn January 1976, the Royal Moroccan Air Force also bombed the refugee camps in the northern part of the territory. The following month, Moroccan jets attacked the Umm Dreiga refugee camps with napalm and white phosphorus bombs, killing thousands of civilians.

"Last week U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon renewed his appeals for sustained human rights monitoring in Western Sahara and warned against unfair exploitation of the region’s natural resources."

Spain, countries traditionally with a centralizing linguis-tic ideology, cannot allow peripheral languages such as Berber to play a sig-nificant role. From the outset, both France and Spain viewed the North African lands aspredominantly Arab. Hence, their policies would constitute, simultaneously, thepromotion of the French and Spanish languages in their respective areas ofcontrol, and the encouragement of Arabization.
https://www.researchgate.(...)byle_and_Berber_mythIn fact, Spain supported the spread of the Arabic language even among the Berber population. “Spain understood that its obligation was to commit to Arabization and
appear disinterested in the possibility to maintain the linguistic division for its own benefit” (126).This is in contrast again with the French policies which clearly state, in Bidwell’s words, that “it did not matter what they taught provided that it was in French and not in Arabic” (249).
Eventually, the participants—which included Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria, and the Polisario Front—met, in Geneva, on December 5th and 6th 2018.
European countries, such as France and Spain, who openly support Morocco. Most EU countries indirectly support Morocco. They do not formally recognize its authority over Western Sahara but repeatedly stress that the conflict needs to be resolved in Rabat’s favour.
https://www.thenewfederal(...)disgraceful-disunityFrankrijk:
France on Wednesday renewed its unwavering support for the Morocco-proposed initiative offering a large autonomy to the Sahara provinces in a bid to settle definitely the Western Sahara artificial conflict. The support was reiterated by French Foreign Affairs Minister, Jean-Yves le Drian, at a meeting with the new UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara Horst Köhler in Paris on Wednesday (January 17).During the meeting, Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is also Minister for Europe, reaffirmed to Horst Köhler France’s support to the Moroccan autonomy plan, insisting that the Moroccan initiative “constitutes a serious and credible basis” for a negotiated settlement of the Sahara issue.Paris had welcomed, last August, the appointment of Horst Köhler as Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, and assured him of France’s “full support” in this mission.A statement, published then by the French Foreign Ministry, stressed that France considers the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as a serious and credible basis for a negotiated solution.
http://northafricapost.co(...)nomy-initiative.htmlVS:
After the UN Security Council adopted on April 30 resolution 2468 on the Sahara with an overwhelming majority, a resolution in which the US played a crucial role consolidating Morocco’s stand, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held lately intensive meetings with US officials in Washington-DC.The United States, the pen-holder of resolutions on the Sahara, did not give in to the pressure exerted by Algeria and the Polisario within the frame of their orchestrated hostile campaigns launched against Morocco.
http://northafricapost.co(...)asting-solution.htmlHet draait om geld:Other European countries evidently do not have a clear strategy and indirectly support Rabat’s claims over the region either to boost their economic interests in North Africa or merely because it has always been their policy. The pattern is always the same. For example, Poland tried to improve its terms of trade with Morocco in 2010. Waldemar Pawlak, the Deputy Prime Minister, was more than ready to develop the cooperation during the Polish-Moroccan Economic Forum. However, it came out that parts of the cooperation illegally gave the Poles rights to mine phosphates from Western Sahara.
