Los Angeles received more rain in first 45 days of 2019 than in entire 2018, California

Los Angeles, California received 250.19 mm (9.85 inches) of rain so far this year, more than it received during the entire 2018 - 198.12 mm (7.80 inches).

While Los Angeles sees about 355.6 mm (14 inches) of rain in a full year, this year's 250 mm probably says more about how bad 2018 was, meteorologist Chris Bianchi wrote for WeatherNation.

"There’s little doubt that 2019 has featured plenty of rain so far with an astounding 250.19 mm (9.85 inches) of rain at LAX Airport and 290.06 mm (11.42 inches) in downtown Los Angeles... It’s probably more of a commentary on how bad 2018 was than how busy 2019 has been," Bianchi said.

While all that rain caused floods and mudslides in wildfire burn scar areas, it also helped the drought-stricken state to snap out of some of the worst drought conditions in its south.

"Potent storms tracked through the West Coast States this past week, pushing year-to-date precipitation totals above 152 mm (6 inches) in most of a broad region that includes areas along and west of the Cascades, the California coastline, the Sierra Nevada, and the Sacramento Valley," Climate Prediction Center's Richard Tinker noted February 12.

A few spots in the central and northern Sierra Nevada recorded over 762 mm (30 inches) of precipitation since the beginning of the year.

Up to 150 cm (60 inches) of snow piled up in the Sierra Nevada, and the continued abundant precipitation prompted more improvement in the Drought Monitor as all dryness was removed from west-central California, including the Bay Area and vicinity.

This happened just across the border from Buffalo, New York.

Video of the incident was posted by the Niagara Parks Police Service.

Police ended up closing the Niagara River Parkway where the ice was pushing over onto the road.

Winterstorm voor de VS.

quote:
The several inches of snow that whitened New York City and Boston to start the weekend was just a preview of a more widespread winter storm that will hit the northeastern United States with heavy snow and rain to end the weekend.

Millions of people can anticipate substantial travel delays, including some flight cancellations, as the winter storm sweeps across the Northeast into Monday. Schools that are scheduled to be open on Monday may have delays or closures.

Snow will continue to spread from the Ohio Valley to the central Appalachians and across the northern mid-Atlantic through Sunday afternoon. Near and along the Interstate-95 corridor, temperatures will be high enough for the snow to mix with or fall as rain.

Snow is expected to reach southern New York by Sunday evening before overspreading more of the state and New England at night.

Northern Arizona is just one of many regions busy busting cold-weather records this week, as the colossal icy air mass continues to grip more than three quarters of the CONUS.

Inches of powder fell in Williams, Flagstaff and Grand Canyon Village on Thursday, May 23, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow this late in May is "highly unusual." In fact, it's happened fewer than a dozen times since records began way back in 1898.

Flagstaff's total snowfall this season currently stands at 118 inches (3 m), comfortably above the season-average of 102 inches (2.6 metres).

Ook massa's sneeuw in Californië.

Mammoth Mountain to Stay Open Into August After Recording Its Snowiest May Ever

After receiving a record amount of snow for May, Mammoth Mountain on Friday announced it would be extending its ski and snowboard season into August.

Only two previous seasons have lasted into August – in 2017 and 1995 – according to Mammoth Snowman, a site that tracks resort news.

With one week left in the month, Mammoth has already received 29 inches of snow, the most ever recorded in the month of May. The total beats the previous record of 28 inches, set in May 2015.

The latest storm brought an additional 9 to 10 inches of snow to the snow, including another three inches in the past 24 hours.

And with more snow in the forecast, the record total will likely increase before the month ends.
