Have I Got News For You is to return for a 64th series next month – with a special episode mocking Boris Johnson.
The panel has been accused of helping popularise the soon-to-be ex-Prime Minister, thanks to his frequent slots as guest and host. Between 1999 and 2006 he was a panellist three times and hosted four episodes.
But in the next episode, airing on BBC One on Friday September 2 at 9pm, will be entitled Have I Got News For Boris: A Special Tribute – with producers Hat Trick saying it will be a ‘romp through his career and his distinctive contribution to British politics, on the eve of his departure’.
The results of the Tory leadership election will come three days later, with either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak installed in Downing Street by the party’s members.
Hosting the episode will be comedian Jack Dee, with Phil Wang and journalist Janet Street-Porter on the panel.
This year's autumn run of the programme is airing earlier than it usually does, because of the BBC's coverage of the World Cup, from late November.
