The final six shows of this tour are being videotaped for a live DVD release, which probably won't happen for a few months. This will be quite a coup - three official Tool releases in as many consecutive years. Thanks to Brock in Albuquerque among a slew of others for this info.
And for once in my life I feel complete and I still want to ruin it.

Hello, I was reading your diary entry in the newsletter and was puzzled by the omission of the encore of "Faaip de Oiad" during the Reno show. I was under the impression that Tool never did encores on this tour and others in the past, but at the Reno show the band returned on stage after about 20 minutes or even longer and performed that song. As far as I could tell, there were less than 50 people in audience when the houselights went down and the stage lights were turned back on. I feel very lucky as I was just about to leave before this happened. The live version of "Faaip de Oiad" was incredible with the pictures (some of the scariest Ive ever seen) on the screens and nightmarish sounds the band was making. But my question is: Did they do this as an encore at any of the other shows as well? Ive been looking around and no one seems to know about this. I would think it would have been described in the reviews and such that Ive seen. Thank you in advance for your reply.

I didnt mention it because I wanted to see what the reaction would be from the few people like yourself who witnessed this unique event. Actually, it wasnt an encore per say, but a live "hidden track" that the band performed only twice during the entire tour (the other time being in Oklahoma). From my count (at the Reno show) there were only about 30 people there to see it, not counting the security people and other employees of the venue. I agree that the projections were very dramatic (with some of the photos that were flashed on the screen being telephoto shots that I took of the Groom Lake complex [Area 51] back in the early 90s), in their attempt to convey the paranoid (?) ramblings of the caller (ex-Area 51 employee* turned whistleblower?) on the Coast to Coast radio program. (NOTE: the tape of the frantic voice played during "Faaip de Oiad" at the Reno show was a copy of a cassette that I have from the night that that now infamous Art Bell radio broadcast originally aired, and was knocked off the air due to an apparent [however suspicious] satellite outage.) Besides the defective (or further evolved) old reverb unit, the sounds that accompanied Dannys drumming were generated by EMS Synthi AKSs played by the other band members, along with an Andromeda synth played by Adam. The overall effect of sound and visuals was quite intense, and, fortunately for others, was filmed for a planned future release.
