Gisteren vergat ik te vermelden dat inmiddels Amnesty International en de mensenrechtentak van de United Nations in North Dakota is. Als ze dat in de USA doen dan is er erg veel stront aan de knikker.

De huidige stand van zaken, met behulp van een drone hebben ze gefilmd wat er nu precies gebeurt. De snapshot komt van die drone, het is ongelofelijk hoe goed die cameraatjes tegenwoordig zijn.

Dear President Obama,

I write to respectfully but urgently request your intervention in the very troubling situation unfolding at and around the Standing Rock Sioux reservation in North Dakota. As you know, over the past day, scores of law enforcement officers dressed in riot gear and supported by military style vehicles forcibly removed hundreds of peaceful protesters who had gathered to oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline. There are disturbing reports of officers using sound cannons, pepper spray and rubber bullets. The authorities have already arrested at least 140 people.

The first priority must be protecting the safety of the peaceful protesters. That is why I urge you to direct the Department of Justice to send observers to protect the protestors’ First Amendment rights to protest the pipeline. I also urge you to request that North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple remove the National Guard from the camp, as the military presence only threatens to inflame an already tense situation even more. Lastly, I urge you to direct the Army Corps of Engineers to stop construction within a mile between Highway 1806 and the Missouri River to help reduce tension.

The second priority is suspending all federal permits for this project until the Army Corps of Engineers completes a full cultural and environmental review. To my mind, the Corps should have never approved this project on an expedited basis in the first place. If Completed, the pipeline will transport nearly 20 million gallons of crude oil every day, potentially threatening dozens of bodies of water, including Lake Oahe on the Missouri River. Since the Missouri River provides drinking water for 10 states and 28 tribes, a major spill from this pipeline cold threaten the drinking water of million of people. That is a risk we simply cannot afford to take.

The Dakota Access Pipeline would also be a huge blow to our fight against climate change. According to one report, burning the oil transported through the pipeline would produce carbon emissions equivalent to 21 million cars or 30 coal plants. If we have any hope of avoiding the worst consequences of climate change, we should not be building new oil pipelines that lock us into burning fossil fuels for generations to come. Rather, we should be building clean energy infrastructure to transform our energy system away from climate change causing fossil fuels and toward renewable sources of energy.

Moreover, it is deeply distressing to me that the federal government is putting the profits of the oil industry ahead of the treaty and sovereign rights of Native American communities. I understand the Standing Rock Sioux have sued to stop the pipeline, citing the very serious environmental concerns, encroachment on culturally sensitive lands, and violations of tribal treaty rights to a meaningful consultative role in the federal permitting process. To my mind, it is simply unacceptable to build a project like this, in one of the poorest counties in the nation, without the approval of the Native American residents who live there.

Mr. President, you took a bold and principled stand against the Keystone pipeline – I ask you to take a similar stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline. In the meantime, I urge you to take all appropriate measures to protect the safety of the Native American protesters and their supporters who have gathered peacefully to oppose the construction of the pipeline.

Shailene Woodley was arrested last week and charged with criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot. She pled not guilty on Wednesday. This is her first full statement in response to what happened.

I was arrested on Oct. 10, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a holiday where America is meant to celebrate the indigenous people of North America.

I was in North Dakota, standing in solidarity, side-by-side with a group of over 200 water protectors, people who are fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline.

People who carry a rainbow of colors on their skin. People who gathered together because they realize that if we don’t begin taking genuine steps to protect our precious resources—our soil, our water, our essential elements—we will not have a healthy or thriving planet to pass on to future generations.

I was in North Dakota, standing side by side with Native Americans.

You know, those who were here before us.

Well, guess what, America? They’re still here.

And they are still fighting the good fight. A fight that serves each and every one of us.

They are still putting their lives on the line to protect the roots that feed our existence.

And, guess what else, dear America? They are still being ignored.

We are still throwing them in jail.

We are still silencing their dedication to protect us from the planetary consequences that will catastrophically bleed from our ignorance.

We wear their heritage, their sacred totems, as decoration and in fashion trends, failing to honor their culture. Headdresses, feathers, arrows. Moccasins, sage, beadwork. You know what I’m talking about, Coachella. Walking around the flea market this weekend, I can’t even tell you how many native references I saw being used in a way that feeds our western narrative.

We buy plastic teepees from Toys-R-Us and set them up in our living rooms for children to play in.

We grow up romanticizing native culture, native art, native history… without knowing native reality.

Somehow, we’ve allowed 200-plus years to go by without questioning the western truth we have been told to believe about Native Americans.

And now, in 2016, in the day and age of exciting technology, which empowers revolution and curiosity, we are still blindly (or maybe not) allowing 200 years of unjust history to continue.

We are allowing Native American voices to be swallowed by the white noise of distraction.

Doesn’t this sadden you, America?

When we talk about marginalized communities in our country, we do not (on a mainstream level) include Native Americans.

When we talk about sex trafficking in our country, we do not (on a mainstream level) include Native Americans.

And when we talk about governmental integrity, we do not (on a mainstream level) include Native Americans.

Treaties are broken. Land is stolen. Dams are built. Reservations are flooded. People are displaced.

Yet we fail to notice. We fail to acknowledge. We fail to act.

So much so that it took me, a white non-native woman being arrested on Oct 10th in North Dakota, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, to bring this cause to many people’s attention. And to the forefront of news publications around the world.

The day I was detained, 26 others had to dress in orange as well, as they were booked into the Morton County jail. Did you hear about them?

Twenty-six men and women who put their livelihoods on the line, to protect their children, your children and my future children.

Twenty-six men and women who realize that millions of people depend on the Missouri River for drinking water.

Millions.

And, you guessed it, you may be one of them. Did that catch your attention?

When the Dakota Access Pipeline breaks (and we know that too many pipelines do), millions of people will have crude-oil-contaminated water. I know it is easy to be apathetic or detached from the reality that fossil fuel contamination could actually affect you and the ones you love… But hear me loud and clear: If you are a human who requires water to survive, then this issue directly involves you. Don’t let the automatic sink faucets in your homes fool you—that water comes from somewhere, and the second its source is contaminated, so is your bathtub, and your sink, and your drinking liquid. We must not take for granted the severity of this truth.

Listen up, America:

The reason we were freezing our a—es off on Oct. 10 in peaceful protest was because the night before (mind you, right after the presidential debate and on the eve of Indigenous Peoples’ Day—coincidence?) the U.S. Court of Appeals denied an injunction to halt construction of the pipeline. As in: They began building once again.

Whatever your cause is. Whatever your passion is. Whatever you care about most… none of your efforts or hard-earned opinions will matter when the planet and the people you’re fighting for have nothing left to show for it.

The Dakota Access Pipeline, my friends, is not another time to ignore, mistreat and turn a blind eye to Native Americans. But it is time to guarantee the safety of Manhattan—despite the soon-to-be-fueled gas pipeline called AIM. (For all of you in the tri-state area, this is being built under a failing nuclear plant. Fukushima only happened five years ago. This plant is just about as far from Manhattan as the U.S. government told Americans to keep away from Fukushima to protect them from a worst-case scenario. Look it up and do something about it.) We have the technology for renewable energy, and it’s up to us to begin utilizing.

I appreciate all of you out there who supported me while I was arrested. I am humbled and grateful for your love, your prayers and your hashtags.

And what could it look like if we learned from this instance, where it took myself getting detained to raise awareness about Native Americans? What if we used it as a catalyst for a full societal shift in the way we start thinking and treating and learning from indigenous peoples? So that in the future, it doesn’t require a non-native celebrity to bring attention to the cause.

What if we took the hashtag #FreeShailene and made it #ProtectCleanWater, or #HonorNativeTreaties, or #IStandWithStandingRock?

What if we don’t let this stop trending on social media, at our dinner tables, in the streets? What if we wake up to the possibilities of noticing, of choosing and of acting on our awareness?

What if we take the time to understand the dynamics of what is at risk here?

Will you choose money, or will you choose children? Will you choose ignorance, or will you choose love? Will you choose blindness, or will you choose freedom?

I am not scared. I am not afraid. I am grateful, and I am amazed to be standing by the sides of so many peaceful warriors. Standing Rock “protests” are rooted in ceremony and in prayer. I’ve been there. And all these narratives about riots? Just watch my Facebook livestream and decide for yourself who looks more dangerous: police in riot gear with batons, or native grandmothers and children smudging sage and singing songs.

Thank you, to all the tribes who have gathered. To all the nations standing as one. To all the people who know that if not we, then who? And if not now, then when?

Simply feeding off the hype of a celebrity’s arrest ain’t going to save the world. But, standing together will. Please stand in solidarity with the Sioux people of Standing Rock Reservation to ensure that we still have rivers to swim in, springs to drink from and lakes to float on. Will you join us?

Na een arrestatie weigerde de politie om insuline te geven aan een diabetespatiënt (mevrouw die op leeftijd is) waardoor de bloedsuikerspiegel gevaarlijk hoog werd (>400 mg/dl). Hier kan je lezen wat de gevolgen zijn. Later werd ze gemanhandled omdat ze geen instructies kon volgen. Ook heeft de politie illegaal datadragers uit mensen hun auto gejat (angst voor registratie wat er gebeurt). Bij het transport trapte de rijdende politie-agent bewust veelvuldig hard op de rem terwijl de arrestanten geen gordel droegen, hij maakte een sadistische opmerking terwijl hij naar hen keek en lachte. De arrestanten moesten DNA afstaan terwijl de politie dat niet mocht doen (geen misdrijven gepleegd maar wel valse beschuldiging van misdrijven die niet gestaafd is), de arrestanten die het weigerden kregen een extra aanklacht erbij. Een niet-corrupte rechter maakt daar gehakt van maar rechtszaken en advocaten zijn duur...
Slechts een tipje van de sluier, er waren veel meer misstanden. Het komt erop neer dat de autoriteiten daar veelvuldig de wet overtreden terwijl de mensen die protesteren geen geweld gebruiken. Een traumapsycholoog die naar daar kwam om te helpen was een van de gearresteerden, zij legt uit wat er allemaaal gebeurde voorafgaande aan en na de arrestatie waar ze als een sardine in een blik met tientallen arrestanten in een hondenhok stond (geen ruimte om te bewegen).

Het witte spul wat je op haar gezicht ziet is pepperspray.

Twee politieagenten namen ontslag. Hij verwijst naar een artikel van Politico waarin werd gesteld (pundit) dat dit een belangrijke reden is dat de politie daar (meeste korpsen) steeds corrupter wordt: de fatsoenlijke mensen verlaten de politie en aldus wordt de cultuur binnen die organisatie steeds slechter.

Ik ga er in de toekomst nog veel meer over melden maar een paar van de puntjes die ik hier nog niet had aangestipt:
- er werden ook snipers ingezet
- het oliebedrijf droeg een medewerker (ID gevonden in zijn auto) om zich als een protesteerder voor te doen terwijl hij daar met een automatisch geweer rondliep. Waarom? Waarschijnlijk met de intentie om de politie en het leger een excuus te geven om stevig in te grijpen
- er was een grote brand waarbij ze na uren nog steeds niets ondernamen om die te blussen terwijl er wel binnen een paar minuten politie is wanneer je ook maar in de bosjes pist
- ze hadden bij een van de bewoners (een blanke, afkomstig van Europeanen) zonder dat zij hier toestemming voor gaf en zonder dat ze de grond had verkocht in vruchtbare landbouwgrond een leiding gelegd en dit deden ze dan ook nog zonder enig respect, ze lieten een hoop troep achter in de grond.

Wat daar gebeurt is echt niet te geloven. Het is letterlijk fascisme, wat we in Europa in de jaren 30 en 40 hadden, in sommige landen ook nog wat later, tot in de jaren 70.

Ondanks dat Obama de opdracht had gegeven om niet binnen 20 mijl (ongeveer 36 kilometer) van de rivier de pijpen te leggen waren ze de rivier al op een halve mijl afstand genaderd.
Gisteren of eergisteren gaf het verantwoordelijke bedrijf aan binnen 2 weken met de laatste fase van de constructie te starten. Waarschijnlijk gaan ze onder de rivier boren wat strafbaar is.
Obama staat erbij en kijkt ernaar. Als hij een beetje een vent is dan gaat hij de laatste maanden dat hij nog de president is ingrijpen.

Hier kan je zien dat het pad waarin de pijpen liggen naar de rivier loopt en dat ze inderdaad op ongeveer een halve mijl de rivier hebben genaderd. De drone waarmee dit werd gefilmd werd uit de lucht geschoten door de politie.

Je ziet zo weer wie er echt de macht hebben; niet de politici, niet de politieke partijen maar de multinationals en het grootkapitaal. Zij regeren de wererld, niet alleen de USA maar ook het grootste deel van Europa, als het niet geheel Europa is. Het gaat hierbij niet om de multinationals en het grootkapitaal van de USA maar dat uit het 'westen' en uit het middenoosten. Ja, ook de olielanden hebben een flinke vinger in de pap, dat is gebleken uit Wikileaks. Kijk ook naar dit voor een kijkje in de keuken:

Inmiddels heeft de politie bijna een arm afgerukt van Sophia Wilansky (de 3 hoofdtakken van de zenuwen gescheurd, een bloedvattranpslantatie was nodig om te voorkomen dat de arm direct afstierf) en hebben ze een waterkanon ingezet terwijl het ergens kouder dan -5 graden Celsius was, de waterdruppels bevroren aaan hun lichaam (best gevaarlijk). Het ongeluk met de arm gebeurde doordat ze in paniek wegrende op het moment dat ze een rubberen kogel tegen haar arm kreeg en vervolgens bij een concussive grenade terecht kwam die ontplofte. Voor wie denkt dat het schieten met rubberen kogels niet zo'n ramp is, ze schieten ook van dichtbij en ook op het hoofd, dat is wel degelijk levensgevaarlijk. Nog steeds vinden CNN, MSNBC, ABC, The Washington Post, de New York Times, Huffington Post etc. het niet de moeite waard om verslaggevers naar daar te sturen.

Ondertussen is Shailene Woodley daar weer aangekomen.

Nog maar even een woordje uitleg over wat er precies aan de hand is nu dat redelijk in kaart is gebracht.
Chinezen hadden tarsand gekocht in Canada, een probleem voor hen; in Canada is het bewerken (refinement) van tarsand niet toegestaan. Om die reden willen die Chinezen het dus naar de USA verplaatsen via die pijpen. Met het nodige geld is Transcanada onder hun invloed gekomen en dat bedrijf heeft in de staat North Dakota de gouverneur een flinke som geld gegeven terwijl het de politie een hoop cadeautjes geeft voor deze strijd. In eerste instantie was het bedrijf van plan om de leidingen in Bishmarck aan te leggen maar aangezien de bewoners van dit welvarende plaatsje protesteerden verplaatsten ze het naar het grondgebied van de natives, hun protest wordt daarentegen al een groot aantal maanden genegeerd.

Nu wil je wellicht weten hoe groot het risico is dat zo'n leiding lek geraakt? Het is bekend dat het jaarlijks honderden keren voorkomt in de USA, vaak wordt het aangetroffen door mensen die in toevallig in de buurt komen; boeren, wandelaars, vissers...
Het is duidelijk dat slechts een deel van de mensen het rapporteert en het is bekend dat het voorkomt dat het pas dagen later nadat het lek is ontstaan wordt ontdekt. Als dat spul in het water komt dan is dat water niet meer drinkbaar en sterven veel organismen die in dat water leven en die het water drinken. Dat is allemaal erg belangrijk maar in de kern is het een strijd van burgers tegen het grootkapitaal en gaat het erom dat de overheid in de USA (hier ook steeds meer maar hier is de invloed van het grote geld minder groot) niet meer het volk dient maar het grootkapitaal.
