WK Cricket Twenty20 2016 in India #1: Met Oranje!

De selectie van het Nederlands team voor het WK Twenty20 is bekendgemaakt. De enige toevoeging aan de groep die zich in de VAE voorbereidde op het WK is Logan van Beek. Oranje vertrekt op woensdag 17 februari naar India om zich in Bangalore en Molhali voor te bereiden op het WKT20 in India. Fase 1 van de ICC World T20 begint op dinsdag 8 maart met een tweetal wedstrijden in groep B in Nagpur: Zimbabwe - Hong Kong en Schotland - Afghanistan. Nederland speelt een dag later tegen Bangladesh in groep A; het andere duel in die groep op die dag is Ierland - Oman.

De selectie bestaat uit:
Wesley Barresi, Logan van Beek, Peter Borren, Mudassar Bukhari, Ben Cooper, Timm van der Gugten, Vivian Kingma, Ahsan Malik, Paul van Meekeren, Roelof van der Merwe, Stephan Myburgh, Max O'Dowd, Michael Rippon, Pieter Seelaar en Sikander Zulfiqar.

Bondscoach Anton Roux over de selectie: "After a very successful tour of the UAE, I am happy to announce an exciting group of Dutch cricketers that will represent The Netherlands in India at the WT20. This group has shown an immense amount of commitment to what we are trying to achieve on the field of play, and to continue playing our brand of cricket. After a great season with Canterbury, the addition of Logan van Beek can only mean added value to the squad and we look forward to having him back. Being able to showcase our skills on the world stage in a tournament like this is a wonderful opportunity that we are very grateful for, and we intend to add more magical memories for the boys in orange. For some this will be a last shot at World Cup glory and for some it will be a first taste of cricket in magical India, which means it all adds up for some exciting times for all involved".

Tom Cooper has been added to the Netherlands squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in India. He replaces Sikander Zulfiqar who will remain with the squad as a reserve player to gain experience at international level.

At the moment of the ICC deadline for squad nominations, Netherlands player Tom Cooper wasn’t available for selection. One week into Netherlands’ training camp in Bangalore at the Karnataka State Cricket Association Three Ovals facility, Netherlands' selectors of Royal Netherlands Cricket Board (KNCB) are excited to be able to announce that Cooper is now available to join the squad in India. According to ICC regulations squads can be altered right up to 29 February; after that date only in case of injuries.

Chairman of Selectors Jeroen Smits: “Tom Cooper was part of the hugely successful 2014 World T20 team that progressed to the Super 10 phase as only Associate Member nation, so the current team will certainly benefit from Cooper’s inclusion and experience”.

National Coach Anton Roux: “Tom's availability certainly adds some more spice to our team. His Dutch cricket family will welcome him back with open arms, and are looking forward to having massive fun playing together with the men in Orange”.

Player profile Tom Cooper
Attacking batsman that made an unprecedented start for the Netherlands side in 2010 by scoring half-centuries in his first three ODI’s, only to add a century in his fifth match. Scored 45 off 15 balls in the memorable 2014 World T20 match in Bangladesh against Ireland, that helped see Netherlands go through to the Super Ten phase.
