Former Sauber and Caterham Formula 1 reserve driver Robin Frijns will join the Andretti Formula E team for this week's final pre-season test at Donington Park.

Frijns, who won back-to-back championships in Formula BMW, Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5 during his single-seater career, currently leads the Blancpain Sprint GT series in an Audi R8 with Laurens Vanthoor.

He will partner Andretti's only confirmed race driver Simona de Silvestro on both days of testing at Donington, starting on Monday.

Team Aguri, which is yet to confirm drivers for either of its seats, will give a day each to Nathaneal Berthon and IndyCar racer Stefano Coletti - the latter making his Formula E test debut.

En de eerste race is een week naar achteren verschoven en is nu op 24 oktober omdat een ander evenement in het Olympisch Park samenviel met de eerdere datum (17 oktober).

The Trulli Formula E team will not take part in the opening weekend of the Formula E championship after the team's cars were not presented for technical checks at Beijing on Friday.

Delays at Chinese customs are believed to be partially at fault for the Trulli entered cars not take part in the meeting.

The team had completed just a handful of tentative installation laps during the pre-season tests at Donington in August before the Motomatic JT01 was transported with the rest of the grid by train to Beijing.

An official FIA bulletin had earlier stated that: "After hearing the FIA Technical Delegate and Team Representative and receiving an additional letter from DHL Motorsport, the stewards granted a waiver to enter the cars to the race under conditions."

These conditions were initially to seal relevant parts of the car before the team then prepared them for scrutineering at 8am pn Saturday.

However, Motorsport.com understands that the team could not meet that deadline and that a subsequent entry list was published without the Trulli team featuring on it.

“It is a difficult situation but now Malaysia remains our new target and team is working hard to get things together,” Vitantonio Liuzzi told Motorsport.com.

“After Donington we knew it couldn’t be easy. But at the moment we don’t have all the materials to get on track. The package will be quite strong eventually and I think there is some potential ahead of us.”

The team do not have the option to revert to season one technical package, in the same way that the Andretti team did at the end of August.

That possibility ended when the team freighted its cars and equipment to Beijing.

Team could face sanction

The Trulli squad could face punishment for failing to get its cars prepared in time for the Beijing ePrix.

With the next event at Putrajaya, Malaysia in just two weeks away, the likelihood of Trulli being in competitive shape with their as yet still unproven and track tested powertrain looks slim.

With private testing banned until January, the first three races for Trulli are likely to be little more than test sessions at best.

Although highly unlikely, the Formula E Sporting regulations does have a provision for serious sanction.

"If in the opinion of the FIA a competitor fails to operate his Team in a manner compatible with the standards of the Championship or in any way brings the Championship into disrepute, the FIA may exclude the competitor from the Championship forthwith," it reads.

Abt loses ninth place, Frijns promoted to points

Daniel Abt has lost his ninth place finish in the Beijing ePrix due to a time penalty, handing Robin Frijns 10th place and a point on his Formula E debut.

ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport driver Abt was deemed to have made an unsafe release from his mandatory pit stop, having a 10 second penalty retrospectively applied to his race time.

This dropped him to 11th place behind Andretti driver Frijns, who was promoted to 10th, while Venturi's Stephane Sarrazin was promoted from 10th on the road to ninth position.

Frijns had been forced to relinquish 10th at the final corner when he realised he was close to exceeding his maximum usuable energy.

The ex-Formula Renault 3.5 champion elected to back off rather than receive a penalty for exceeding his power, and thought a debut point was lost until Abt's penalty.

The Beijing race was won in dominant fashion by Renault eDAMS driver Sebastien Buemi.

Putrajaya ePrix – The Trulli Formula E team will miss their second race this season after failing scrutineering ahead of the Putrajaya ePrix.

The team missed the opening round in Beijing after their inverters were held at Chinese customs, and the team appears to be following the same fate, but under different circumstances.

“It is with big regret that we announce that we won’t participate in tomorrow’s race,” explained Trulli Team Principal Lucio Cavuto, “everyone in the team has been working incredibly hard and we were looking forward to showing our car on track.

“Lots of work has been done on the cars and we are confident that everything will be fine in Punta Del Este.

“I’d also like to thank the FIA and FEH for extending the scrutineering time. Unfortunately for us, it just was not enough time to complete the cars.”

It was also recently announced that ex-Aguri man Salvador Duran would not race for the team in Putrajaya following a “breach in contract”. The teams’ co-founder, Jarno Trulli, would stand in as replacement and confirmed that they would like to see Duran back in the car for Punta del Este.
