Native English speakers just appreciate the effort and realize that communicating in a second or even third language is not always that easy.

Ja, aber wir sind hier nicht in England. Statt English könnten wir genau so gut Deutsch sprechen, das würde genauso wenig Sinn machen. Und es geht nur ein Lehreffekt davon aus, wenn man gute Beispiele hat, so wie dieses hier. Wenn man sich nur den falschen Sprachgebrauch von anderen einprägt, dann entgeht mir der Zweck der Sache.quote:

The question, posed by the TS, is about the usage of English all the time. But while you are justified in stating that there is a wide-spread knowledge of the English language among the Dutch population, it is all but far from impeccable for a large portion of that population. Hence, if we would all use English henceforth, it would lead to the inculcation of deficient language use, which bears the risk of being counter-productive.quote:
