Wapens kan men zonder problemen over de grens smokkelen zoals we eerder gezien hebben. Dan is het erg flauw om moeilijk te doen over een hulpkonvooi.

Het zou dus gaan om 2000 ton humanitaire hulp verzamelt door de Moskovieten en bewoners van de regio Moskou. Daar zijn ze al zolang bestookt door door beelden van een doorgaande genocide dat ze nu de handen ineen slaan.

Dit is denk ik toch wel een maatje groter dan de gemiddelde smokkel operatie. Convoy with Russian humanitarian aid will cross Ukraine's border in Kharkiv region - Kuchma

The convoy with humanitarian aid for Luhansk sent by Russia under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross will enter Ukrainian territory through a customs checkpoint in Kharkiv region, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

According to earlier reports, a convoy carrying humanitarian aid intended for Ukraine's eastern regions left the town of Naro-Fominsk, outside of Moscow, on Tuesday morning and is now heading toward Russia's southwestern border.

A Moscow region administration spokesman has said that "the convoy of vehicles will deliver some 2,000 tonnes of humanitarian supplies collected by Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region to people in eastern Ukraine."

As many as 280 KamAZ trucks are carrying the cargo, including 400 tonnes of cereal, 100 tonnes of sugar, 62 tonnes of baby food, 54 tonnes of medical equipment and medication, 12,000 sleeping bags, and 69 portable power generators.

The Rostov region authorities have announced that the humanitarian convoy will arrive in the Rostov region.

Norway to join sanctions against Russia

The Norwegian authorities will join the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia on July 31, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry has reported.

Foreign Minister Borge Brende said that Norway would introduce the same sanctions as the EU. In particular, it will expand the list of persons and entities whose financial assets in the country will be frozen. Visa bans will also be imposed on individuals.

On July 31, the EU included Sberbank, VTB, Rosselkhozbank, VEB and Gazprombank in the sanctions list. EU companies and citizens were banned from buying or selling new shares, bonds and similar financial instruments with a maturity exceeding 90 days. Restrictions were also imposed on supplies of military goods and equipment for extracting arctic, deep-sea shelf and shale oil.

Brende said that Norway's restrictive measures would be a response to the violation by Russia of the UN Charter. He also noted that Moscow had not expressed its readiness to change its behavior towards Ukraine.
