Donetsk, June 7 (Interfax) - Three civilians were killed as Ukrainian government forces shelled the city of Sloviansk and its suburban neighborhood Cherevkivka late on Friday and early on Saturday, the headquarters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic told Interfax.
"A howitzer round last night hit Svobody Street, which is the central street of Sloviansk. Two people who were at the place at the moment were killed and several others suffered fragmentation wounds," it said.
Another civilian was killed and 2 houses were destroyed as Cherevkivka was shelled early on Saturday, it said.
"The city's residential neighborhoods are being pounded, and therefore it's impossible to stay there. A lot of civilians have been injured," it said.
Information from the self-proclaimed republic's headquarters and local residents indicated that the Vostochny neighborhood and the village of Artem were currently being shelled from Mount Karachun, which was earlier taken up by the Ukrainian army.
Meanwhile, the chief of Kyiv-based Information Resistance group, Dmytro Tymchuk, said on Facebook on Saturday morning that two Ukrainian servicemen had been wounded during a militia attack on a checkpoint near Bylbasivka in Sloviansk district.
He also said a government military convoy had come under fire from militia fighters. "No one was hurt among the [troops in the convoy], who returned fire," he wrote on Facebook. He mentioned no casualties among the attackers.

Sloviansk, has become an increasingly difficult area for journalists operate in.
Both the pro-Russian forces and the Ukrainian military operating in the city have sought to limit press access in the area as part of a jostle to win what is seen as an informational war.
The result is an underreported humanitarian crisis.
Surrounded on all sides by the Ukrainian army, civilians trapped inside the city are subject to heavy daily shelling from both mortars and heavy artillery. The assaults appear increasingly indiscriminate with shells now often landing in areas with a dense civilian population.
More than 15,000 people are now thought to have fled Sloviansk, which has a population of just less than 130,000 many to nearby salt lake resort Sveta Gorsk.
But despite the efforts of non-governmental organizations, a lack of information and governmental support for those seeking to leave means many more remain inside the city too poor, too afraid or simply unwilling to leave behind a whole lifetime.
For those who have stayed, daily life is a constant and growing struggle.
Water supplies have been cut off to almost all areas of the city in some places for at least four days after shelling damaged water pipelines. On Friday, the city was plunged into darkness after the Ukrainian army took out the electricity hub supplying the city in Nikolaevka.

Food is also becoming scarce, as supplies are increasingly difficult to get inside the city. Only one local shop in Mashchermet remains open. Its shelves are nearing empty, but people are no longer waiting to buy what remains, instead they are increasingly dependent on what they can get from the land.
We have nearly no money left, said Nelli as she chops homegrown onions from the allotment in her kitchen. Bread prices have risen by thirty percent, so we do what we can.
Many have stopped receiving wages as nearly all factories, shops and offices in the city are now closed. Pensions, benefits and payment to state employees, such as teachers and doctors, have also stopped after Kiev ceased making payments last month amid claims the money was being used to fund terrorism.

Pro-Russian rebels fighting Ukraine's Western-backed government have launched attacks on Luhansk International Airport in the east of the country, a military source said on Sunday.
The assaults, which took place on Saturday evening and Sunday morning in the immediate wake of the inauguration of Ukraine's new President Petro Poroshenko, did not result in any injuries among the defenders, he said.
"It was clear the rebels were trying to destroy the building which controls the power supply to the airport," said the source, one of the Ukrainian paratroopers guarding the airport, talking to AFP by telephone.

During the night of June 7, a convoy of six armored personnel carriers, six KAMAZ trucks, and an artillery tank crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border, reports ZN.UA, June 8, citing the commander of the Azov special battalion Yaroslav Honchar. The KAMAZ went to the city of Torez and the armored vehicles are in the city of Snizhne, where a new center of resistance to Ukrainian troops is being formed.

“Fortification work is continuing for the second day now. On the roofs are positioned the MANPADS and snipers (on the former border complex, including Furshet and Lenin stores and other buildings). Honchar added that “during the night 2 to 3 convoys with 4 KAMAZ of those that arrived yesterday went to the village of Novaya Nadezhda in the Russian Federation where they took some 100 people on board.”
“According to preliminary information, the 100 individuals are military personnel of the Russian Federation. Accompanied by two of our traitors, those 4 KAMAZ with Russian special forces came back to Snizhne. Their assignment is sabotage,” he concluded.

Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko said that the fighting in eastern Ukraine must be stopped this coming week.
"We must ensure ceasefire this week," Poroshenko told the trilateral contact group for implementing the peace plan for eastern Ukraine in Kiev on Sunday.
"The situation where people die each day and Ukraine is paying such a high price, is unacceptable," the Ukrainian president said.
"Therefore, first, the work of the Ukrainian state border must be restored in order to guarantee security for all Ukrainian citizen living in Donbass, irrespective of their political preferences," Poroshenko said, Interfax reports.
The presidential press service told Interfax that the meeting was attended by Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Pavel Klimkin, the OSCE secretary general's special envoy Heidi Tagliavini and Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov.
Poroshenko said that the parties must work to implement the agreements reached in Normandy in talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He also proposed holding the group's meetings on a daily basis in order to assess what has been done and to coordinate further moves to implement the peace plan for eastern Ukraine.
Reports said earlier that Poroshenko unveiled his plan for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in France on June 6.

Nevertheless, criminal conduct by the insurgents does not relieve the Ukrainian forces of their obligations to act in accordance with international law in the conduct of their law enforcement and military operations. This is particularly the case with respect to use of lethal force. In Ukraine the obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), such as those which protect the right to life (article 2), bodily integrity (article 3), and liberty and security (article 5), as well as the inviolability of the home (article 8), remain in force during all law enforcement and military operations.

In so far as the ongoing hostilities are governed by international humanitarian law, the government also has obligations never to direct attacks at civilians or civilian objects or to engage in indiscriminate attacks, to distinguish at all times between civilian objects and military objectives, and to adhere strictly to the principle of proportionality insofar as attacks that may cause incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians, or damage to civilian objects, in excess of the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated, are prohibited. Under international humanitarian law the insurgents are bound by the same obligations, and under human rights standards, all parties must take all feasible measures to avoid, and in any event to minimize, incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians, and damage to civilian objects.

We urge you to review all ongoing operations in Semyonovka, Sloviansk, and elsewhere to ensure that in carrying out counter-insurgency operations, Ukrainian forces are fully aware of all their obligations under international law and that the use of lethal force that may result in the death or injury of civilians or may cause unjustified harm to civilian property and infrastructure is strictly justified under international law.

The Russian Cossacks who came to help their fellow Russians in southeastern Ukraine have been fleeing the shelling of Slavyansk, Igor Strelkov (Girkin), the commander of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" was quoted as saying in a blog said to be his, donbass.ua reported

Strelkov has been quoted on social media recently as complaining about the failure to get more weapons and reinforcements from the Kremlin.

The Cossacks are portrayed as volunteers who rallied to the cause of Donbass separatism on their own. But it is helpful to recall that Putin passed a law in 2005 recognizing the 600,000 Cossacks as an armed formation and officially authorizing them to guard Russia's borders, support law and order and even fight terrorism. He also decreed that they be funded from the state budget.

(Reuters) - Russia would consider any further expansion of NATO forces near its borders a "demonstration of hostile intentions" and would take political and military measures to ensure its own security, a senior diplomat was quoted on Monday as saying.

De Russische president Vladimir Poetin zei op vrijdag 21 mei jl., dat Rusland vreest dat de weigering van het Westen om tot een dialoog met Rusland te komen over Oekrane, ertoe zal kunnen leiden dat Kiev de NAVO wordt binnengeloodst en de Verenigde Staten installaties voor hun raketschild in dat land zullen plaatsen.
Poetin zei: "De staatsgreep (in Oekrane) heeft plaatsgevonden en ze willen niet met ons praten. Waarmee moeten we dan rekening houden? De volgende stap zal zijn dat Oekrane lid wordt van de NAVO. Ze vragen nooit aan ons wat we daarvan vinden, en ze zijn niet genteresseerd in een dialoog met ons. Dat zijn we de afgelopen 20 jaar wel al gewoon geworden. Ze zeggen: "Geen dialoog, het is niet jullie zaak, jullie hebben daar geen belang bij".
Op het jaarlijks Internationaal Economisch Forum in St. Petersburg, waar officile delegaties uit 62 landen en ceo's van 146 belangrijke multinationale ondernemingen vertegenwoordigd waren, maakte Poetin de volgende opmerking: "Morgen zou Oekrane lid van de NAVO kunnen zijn, en overmorgen kunnen er installaties voor het raketschild geplaatst zijn."
De Europese Unie, de Verenigde Staten en de NAVO weigerden om afgevaardigden naar dit Forum te sturen. De Russische diplomatiek vertegenwoordiger bij de NAVO, Alexander Grushko, zei afgelopen maandag dat Moskou eerder aangedrongen had op een onmiddellijke bijeenkomst van de NAVO-Rusland Raad vanwege de ernstige verslechtering van de crisissituatie in Oekrane.
Het bondgenootschap stelde toen voor om op 27 mei een bijeenkomst van ambassadeurs te beleggen, maar Moskou verzocht om deze top uit te stellen. Op 1 april jl. stopte de NAVO alle praktische samenwerking met Rusland betreffende Oekrane, alleen werd er nog contact gehouden op ambassadeursniveau of daarboven. De ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken van de NAVO-lidstaten willen de relaties met Moskou op hun volgende bijeenkomst in juni opnieuw bekijken.
Al eerder beschuldigde Poetin de westerse landen ervan de ongrondwettelijke coup in Oekrane te steunen, juist op een moment dat Moskou een oproep deed om via dialoog te zoeken naar een oplossing voor de crisis in dat land. De oproep kwam op een moment van gespannen relaties tussen Rusland en de landen van de Europese Unie nadat die samen met de Verenigde Staten sancties oplegden aan Russische vertegenwoordigers wegens beweerde aanwakkering van de crisis in Oekrane.
In Oekrane had op 21 februari net een machtswisseling plaatsgevonden die veel weg had van een militaire staatsgreep, na maandenlange confrontaties tussen de Russisch georinteerde autoriteiten en aanhangers van aansluiting bij de EU. Het Oekraens parlement zette president Viktor Janoekovitsj af,veranderde de grondwet en schreef vervroegde presidentsverkiezingen uit voor 25 mei.
Sinds maart, toen het vroegere Oekraens schiereiland De Krim zich weer bij Rusland voegde, breidden in de zuid-oostelijke regio's van Oekrane, met voornamelijk Russischtalige bevolking, de antiregeringsprotesten zich uit. Eerder deze maand verklaarden de regio's Donetsk en Luhansk zich autonoom. De nieuwe interim-autoriteiten in Oekrane, die gesteund worden door radicale ultranationalistische groepen, begonnen half april met de uitvoering van speciale acties om de protesten neer te slaan, dit heeft inmiddels geresulteerd in vele tientallen doden en gewonden.

In a three-hour battle near the airport of Kramatorsk, rebels attacked the army with mortars but government forces returned fire, destroying their position and killing 40 "mercenaries", said the spokesman, Vladyslav Seleznyov. This figure could not be independently confirmed and there was no immediate word from the side of the separatists.
In Slaviansk, just north of Kramatorsk, two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded when rebels, who control the city, attacked an army position on the perimeter using grenade-launchers.
In Luhansk, on the border with Russia, separatist fighters opened fire on the airport and nearby Ukrainian army positions. "The attack of the (separatist) fighters was repelled by special force units. There are no losses on the Ukrainian side," said Seleznyov.

However, the overnight clashes demonstrated the continuing high tensions in the hot spots of eastern Ukraine.
In a separate initiative, Poroshenko ordered security chiefs to establish a "safety corridor" to help civilians caught up in the fighting to leave the area if they wished, his press service said on Tuesday.
Poroshenko also told the government to organize medical assistance to civilians in areas at risk and to send in mobile units to deliver drinking water, food and medical supplies.

But on Tuesday evening Ponomaryovs spokesperson Stella Khorosheva told VICE News that she was still been unable to make contact with him, and that he was last seen at 10PM on Monday night.
While she did not dismiss that he may be busy, she also said that his absence is shocking myself and the DPR. We don't know where he is.

Rapportages zijn sowieso geen goed medium als je objectiviteit nastreeft. Het maakt uit wie je interviewt. Zo kunnen RT en Vice News compleet andere impressies geven van dezelfde situatie. Als je daarop uit bent dan is het knullig om te sjoemelen met de vertaling.
In de laatste video rapporteert Vice News over zaken die voor RT koren op hun molen is. Het westerse kamp heeft er geen belang bij, om aandacht te besteden aan het geweld waarmee de ATO gepaard gaat en de slachtoffers. Maar dat doet Vice News wel en dat siert ze.
Dat de Dolzhansky grenspost in handen is van de rebellen is een feit:
Dat de grens op plekken gewoon open is, lijkt mij onbetwistbaar. Dat Rusland van zijn kant de grenzen niet sluit voor de rebellen is ook evident. De overheid probeert terrein te veroveren op de rebellen. De plaatsen waarin de rebellen zich hebben verschansd beginnen steeds meer te lijken op een oorloggebied, waarin het gewone leven van burgers onmogelijk wordt.

Dat de NAVO geen land maar een bondgenootschap is waar landen zich vrijwillig bij aan kunnen sluiten is voor sommigen blijkbaar een volstrekt onbegrijpelijk concept. Dat voormalige Sovjet-staten zich daarbij willen en wilden aansluiten is gezien de opstelling van Rusland ook volkomen logisch. While in places like Slavyansk the Russian-backed separatists may be in control, the situation in Donetsk, Ukraine's fifth largest city with a population of over one million, is far more complicated.
While the city is technically in the hands of Ukrainian authorities, parts of it are controlled by the separatists, and as a result there is a palpable power vacuum in parts of the city.
AFP reports that pro-Russian citizens have organized patrols, a make-shift law enforcement that lacks the kind of accountability and training that one would hope to see in a city this large.

In the last few months a lot of stories have been lost amid the world-shattering headlines of revolution, regime change, the deaths of civilians, the intervention of outside powers, a Russian invasion, the annexation of Crimea, and the growing war in the east.
One of those stories is the documents that were recovered by Ukrainian journalists and citizens, documents that were dumped into the river by Ukraine's fleeing president, Victor Yanukovych. Those journalists and citizens sent divers into the water to rescue the documents -- more than 25,000 of them -- then they separated them, dried them, sorted them... and read them.

Tax cheats siphoned billions from Ukraine
As Ukraine’s tax chief tells it, the billion-dollar theft was planned at a see-through plastic table in a vault of soundproof steel.

It was the epicenter, he and other tax officials say, of a massive fraud suspected of squeezing 130 billion hryvnias ($11 billion) from Kiev’s coffers over the past three years — an amount equal to more than half a year’s tax revenue for the entire country.
Deputy Tax Minister Ihor Bilous, the country’s new tax boss, says his predecessor was in on the scam, helping to organize a wide network of phantom firms in return for a cut of the cash. The criminals, he says, operated with impunity.

According to officials and insiders, here’s how it worked: A business pretended to buy goods or services from the phantom firm. Instead of delivering on the deal, the fake company secretly returned the money in cash, reducing the real company’s tax liability in return for a cut of the money.
Getting in on the scam slashed tax bills dramatically. One home appliance importer used phantom partners to whittle its tax obligations down to $85,000 a month, according to ministry figures. Once it dropped the tactic, its payments jumped tenfold.
Those behind the phantom firms stood to make huge amounts of money. One tax document reviewed by the AP showed that a Kiev company purporting to be a trading firm drew in $190,000 in sales per month — with only a single employee on a monthly salary of $110.
A businessman with nearly two decades’ experience in Ukraine told the AP about his own involvement in the scheme. He said $300,000 he owed in tax was instead split between his companies and the various phantom firms he dealt with. He said businesses signed up because of high taxes and erratic enforcement of the law. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he feared prosecution.
Phantom companies have long been a problem in Ukraine, which ranks 144th out of 177 in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index. Exorcising them is a key challenge faced by the newly elected administration of Petro Poroshenko, who was sworn in Saturday as Ukrainian president.
Bilous is proposing a series of legal changes to fight corruption, and some 30 investigations are under way. But skeptics say the new government is not doing enough to end fraud.

"I think we must always look for opportunities. Politics is the art of the possible. Yes, we should try to combine the logic of Ukraine's presence in the CIS free trade zone and its possible participation in a free trade zone with the European Union," Ulyukayev told journalists Wednesday.
"This is a great challenge and I would like to warn everyone against certain levity," the Russian minister added.
He recalled that the issue has a legal side - more than 400 agreements binding Ukraine with the CIS, "40 of which are of vital importance."

Ulyukayev also noted that all parties must "search for solutions" and negotiate to make balanced decisions. It takes time and patience, he added.
The political part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was signed in March and it is now expected that the economic part will be signed, which includes Ukraine's entry into the EU free trade zone. Both Kiev and Brussels announced their intention to sign an agreement before June 27.

In Brussel hebben de onderhandelingen over gas tussen het Russische Gazprom en Oekrane een beslissend stadium bereikt. Rusland is nu bereid om de prijs die het Oekrane rekent te verlagen van 485 dollar naar 350 380 dollar per duizend kubieke meter aardgas.

Zondag besloot de regering van Bulgarije om de bouw van de gaspijplijn South Stream stil te leggen omdat de aanbesteding en de exploitatie ervan in strijd zijn met de Europese mededingingsregels. South Stream is een consortium dat door Gazprom wordt gedomineerd en als strategisch doel heeft de gastoevoer naar Zuidoost-Europa straks buiten Oekrane om te regelen.
In Bulgarije heerst al twee jaar maatschappelijk protest tegen de corruptie in het land en de beslissing om de aanleg van South Stream tijdelijk te staken, leidde daar nu tot een politieke crisis. South Stream wordt gezien als een voorbeeld van die corruptie. De leider van de regerende Bulgaarse Socialistische Partij kondigde gisteren vervroegde verkiezingen aan.

In fact, if you were to design an energy system that is optimized for corruption, it might look very much like Ukraine’s.
You would start with a wholly state-owned monopoly that is not accountable to anyone except the head of the country who appoints the management of this company. It would operate non-transparently without being held accountable by shareholders (who might demand legal rights as owners) or capital markets since its chronic indebtedness is periodically repaid by the state treasury.
Domestic production would be priced artificially low, ostensibly for social welfare reasons, leading to a large grey market in gas supply that is allocated by privileged access rather than by price. Low gas prices suppress domestic production and energy efficiency improvement, thereby necessitating the import of large volumes of gas which coincidentally is controlled by the same state monopoly or its chosen middleman company.
The opaque middleman is frequently paid handsomely in kind, rather than in cash, which allows him to re-export the gas or to resell to high-value domestic customers, leaving the state company with the import debt and social obligations.
Similarly Ukraine has eroded its major advantages as a major oil and gas transit country between Russia/Central Asia and European markets from its geographic location and Soviet legacy pipeline infrastructure.

The T-72 is still in regular service in Russia but has been withdrawn from duties in Ukraine. There are however T-72s in storage as reserves in Ukraine. (Reuters) - Ukrainian forces surrounded the strategic rebel-held port city of Mariupol on Friday in a dawn attack launched as part of a broader military operation to reclaim control of eastern Ukraine.
The rebel forces said five of their fighters had been killed in the battle for Mariupol, Ukraine's largest Azov Sea port.

Separatist Fighters Reportedly Fire Grad Rockets And Kill Civilian
Novosti Donbassa reports that separatist fighters have accidentally set fire to their own Grad rocket launcher and destroyed the depot of a vegetable company by mistake in the Donetsk town of Dobropol.
A comment on a local VKontakte group read (translated by The Interpreter):

Out of the 40 rockets, 14 remain unused, and one of them malfunctioned and fell on a barn near the launch site. They allegedly fired at a Ukrainian checkpoint which is on the outskirts of the town, towards Svyatogorsk. But a mistake was made in the firing adjustments and all of the missiles fell on the Perspektivy vegetable depot, where a woman who worked for the company was seriously injured. Two rockets fell on a neighbouring premises, where a young man who was working as security guard died.

The escalating military conflict in Ukraine’s east is forcing thousands from their homes, but the government appears to have no official support program in place to confront a potential humanitarian crisis. The need for a coordinated initiative is growing in urgency as ever larger numbers head to the west in search of shelter.
Now a new movement is bringing pressure to bear on government. Recently created volunteer organizations EuroMaidan SOS, Vostok SOS and Donetsk SOS have pooled their resources in an effort to provide aid for those fleeing to western and central Ukraine. They have teamed up with the Foundation for the Development of Ukraine, a charity owned by Ukraine’s richest man, Rinat Akhmetov.

President Petro Poroshenko announced on June 10 the creation of “evacuation corridors” to help refugees from the country’s east, without clarifying how these will operate in practice. The following day Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk called for a database to be drawn up to assist their resettlement.
Accommodation for 39,000 people has been made available across western Ukraine, with schools, hotels and even churches being enlisted to meet the demand. Kyiv and Lviv, the most popular destinations, are rapidly running out of space, and many are now being sent to Cherkasy oblast, where the local government has provided accommodation for around 22,000 people.
Official statistics on the scale of the problem are hard to come by. Citing figures from June 5, Tatyana Lupova, advisor to Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy, said around 2,000 people have fled Donetsk and Lugansk regions since the conflict began. As of June 11 Ukraine’s State Migration Service reports 5,000 people having left the two regions for other parts of Ukraine. It estimates that a further 5,000 have done so without informing the authorities.
Meanwhile Russian media have reported tens of thousands of Ukrainians crossing the border into Russia, although Russia’s own migration service has cited far fewer cases. A camp for around 300 refugees set up in Rostov region, which borders Ukraine, was visited on Thursday by the OSCE’s secretary general Lamberto Zannier.

Samantha Power, U.S. ambassador to the UN, came up with a condemnation of the protests near the Russian Embassy too. "Urge Ukrainian authorities to meet their Vienna convention obligations to provide security," she wrote in a post on Twitter.
Another prominent American diplomat - Steven Pifer, who served as country's ambassador to Ukraine in 1998-2000 - wrote: "Fully understand Ukraine's anger at Russia, but trashing Russian embassy is not a good idea. (Will) likely lead to trashing of Ukraine's embassy in Moscow."

Afweergeschut
Het vliegtuig, een II-76, werd neergehaald toen het een vliegveld in de oostelijke stad Loehansk naderde. Er waren negen bemanningsleden en veertig militairen aan boord.
De rebellen zouden het vliegtuig met luchtafweergeschut en zware machinegeweren hebben neergehaald. Het ministerie van defensie heeft zijn medeleven met de familieleden van de slachtoffers uitgesproken.
Ultimatum
Een woordvoerder van de zelfverklaarde Volksrepubliek Loehansk, Aleksej Toporov, zei dat het vliegtuig is neergehaald omdat de Oekraense 'bezetters' hadden geweigerd gehoor te geven aan een ultimatum om de luchthaven van Loehansk te verlaten.
Het is voor de krijgsmacht het dodelijkste incident sinds het uitbreken van de onrust in het oosten van het land. Eind mei kwamen twaalf militairen, onder wie een generaal, om toen rebellen in de buurt van Slovjansk een legerhelikopter neerhaalden.
Ik snap wel dat men de orde probeert te herstellen, maar met geweld gaat dit niet lukken. Als ze een deal sluiten met de Russen is het geweld zo ten einde. Als je het hebt over de gasrekening moeten ze die natuurlijk meteen betalen. Als jij en ik het gas niet betalen dan worden wij toch ook afgesloten? Het punt is dat de Oekraine alleen maar steeds verder escaleert zonder te willen praten over oplossingen. De EU zou bv de gasrekening van de Oekraine kunnen garanderen om te beginnen, daarna zou men kunnen afspreken dat de Oekraine nooit lid zou worden van de NAVo, of de EU, zodat de Oekraine zou in ruil voor economische steun kunnen blijven fungeren als bufferstaat tussen Rusland en de vijandige en agressieve Navo landen.quote:

Oekrane escaleert helemaal niet, Porosjenko had nota bene een staakt-het-vuren afgekondigd maar dat stelletje idioten heeft daar lak aan en schiet doodleuk een vliegtuig uit de lucht. Met woorden lukt het klaarblijkelijk niet, wat mij betreft draait Oekrane flink de duimschroeven aan en lanceren ze een flink offensief; daar hebben ze nu ook alle reden toe.quote:

Belediging
Rusland is woedend op de Oekraense minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Andrej Desjtsjitsa, omdat die president Vladimir Poetin heeft beledigd tijdens een protest zaterdag bij de Russische ambassade in Kiev. Desjtsjitsa zou Poetin ''stomkop'' hebben genoemd.
De Russische minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Sergej Lavrov zei zondag dat zijn Oekraense ambtgenoot de fatsoensnormen heeft overtreden.
Desjtsjitsa was zaterdag naar Oekraense betogers gelopen die bij de Russische ambassade betoogden. De actievoerders gooiden eieren, groene verf en vuurwerk naar het gebouw. De minister sprak beledigende woorden aan het adres van Poetin, maar voorkwam dat de protesten verder uit de hand liepen.
Volgens mij is dat zwaar overdreven. De Blog van de interpreter meldt hierover niets. Al Jazeera meldt alleen:quote:

Een goede verhouding met de Russen is vele malen belangrijker dan een "voordeeltje" op geopolitiek gebied in Oost Europa. De Russen zijn nodig in tal van conflicten die vele malen gevaarlijker zijn voor de stabiliteit in de wereld. Als de Russen de Oekraine zo graag als satelietstaat willen, laat ze lekker dat voordeel houden. Als de Russen de Oekraine zo graag als satelietstaat willen, laat ze lekker dat voordeel houden. Rusland en Oekrane zijn het voor de deadline van maandagochtend niet eens geworden over gasbetalingen. Het Russische gasbedrijf Gazprom heeft de gastoevoer aan Oekrane beperkt.
Gazprom stapt naar de rechter om Oekrane te dwingen een gasschuld van zo'n 3 miljard euro te betalen. Sinds er een pro-westerse regering in Kiev zetelt, heeft Rusland een eerder afgesproken korting op de gasprijs voor Oekrane teruggedraaid. Daarmee verdubbelde de gasprijs.
Rusland stelde Oekrane een ultimatum: indien er vr 16 juni geen akkoord was bereikt over nieuwe gasprijzen, moest Oekrane de miljardenschuld aan achterstallige betalingen aflossen.
Compromis
Zondagavond deed Europees Commissaris voor Energie Gnther Oettinger, die als bemiddelaar optreedt in het conflict, een laatste voorstel. Oekrane ging akkoord met het compromis van een prijs van rond de 285 euro per 1.000 kubieke meter gas en een lagere prijs in de zomer van 220 euro.
Rusland wees het compromis af en eiste een vaste prijs van 285 euro en een onmiddellijke afbetaling van zo'n 1,5 miljard euro aan schulden.
Ultimatum
Na het aflopen van het ultimatum op maandag heeft Gazprom aangegeven dat het Oekrane geen gas meer levert, tenzij er vooraf wordt betaald. 'Ze hebben niets betaald, als gevolg daarvan leveren we niets,' zei woordvoerder Sergej Kuprijanov van Gazprom in een persconferentie.
Het Russische bedrijf heeft aangekondigd dat het een rechtszaak aanspant tegen Naftogaz, het Oekraense gasbedrijf, om betaling van ruim 3 miljard euro aan schulden af te dwingen.
Gewaarschuwd
Gazprom heeft gemeld dat het wel gas blijft leveren dat Naftogaz moet doorvoeren naar andere Europese landen. Ongeveer eenderde van het gas van Europa komt van Gazprom, waarvan de helft wordt geleverd via Oekrane.
Maandag waarschuwt Rusland de Europese Unie dat als Oekrane het gas dat het moet doorvoeren naar Europa zelf gebruikt, er tekorten kunnen optreden in de rest van Europa.

The are group of videos uploaded over the last 24 hours that all claim to show the same thing. The volume, and the fact that at least one of them has been geolocated specifically, and the fact that we don't remember seeing these specific videos all combine to form fairly compelling evidence of Russian troop movement toward the border.
During previous periods of time when the Ukrainian military has intensified its anti-terrorism operations Russia has responded in a similar way, sending its own troops and armor to the border. Like a game of chicken, in previous instances Ukraine was the first one to blink, quickly withdrawing its troops and halting its ATO.

Poroshenko wil niets liever dan samen met de RF de rebellen afsluiten van verdere steun en ze uitroken:

Hij wil de rebellen niets meer bieden dan een kans het vege lijf te redden.
Maar de RF wil invloed houden op Oost-Oekraine. Om hun wensen daarin af te kunnen dwingen, hebben ze de rebellen nodig. Als het Oekraiense leger dus te succesvol wordt in het winnen van terrein en het afknijpen van de rebellen, dan gaat de RF de rebellen steunen.
Beide partijen (Oekraine en RF) proberen hun onderhandelingspositie te versterken.
Er zouden trouwens al duizenden vluchtelingen vanuit Donbass in Rostov zijn geregistreerd:

Donetsk People's Republic seeking Customs Union, EurAsEc membership

Leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin has said DPR has adopted a course towards liberating the people from Kiev authorities' armed gangs.
He said the republic would form a close alliance with another self-proclaimed republic — Luhansk People's Republic — and cooperate with international bodies in the post-Soviet space.
He underlined that DPR would raise wages and welfare payments at the expense of nationalization of the companies that refuse to pay taxes to the DPR budget. In 2013, Donetsk transferred about 14 billion hryvnias ($1.19 billion) of which just seven billion returned to Donetsk:quote:Many ministries of the proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics will work jointly, because the two republics have signed a union treaty and have similar action programs.

Two Russian state TV journalists have been killed in a mortar attack in east Ukraine, according to Russian news agencies.
Sound engineer Anton Voloshin was killed at the scene - the village of Metalist village outside the city of Luhansk - while a reporter, Igor Kornelyuk, died in hospital during surgery. A third member of the crew survived.
Rossiya 24 channel announced earlier in the day that an employee had been wounded in mortar fire while on assignment and was in a serious condition.

De explosie gisteren bij een pijplijn in Oekrane is volgens Kiev veroorzaakt door een bom. Het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken vermoedt buitenlandse inmenging. Volgens minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Arsen Avakov was een bom geplaatst onder een betonnen blok waarop de pijplijn rust.
Bij Gazprom wil men niet speculeren over een mogelijke oorzaak, maar een woordvoerder stelt wel dat het slechte onderhoud van pijpleidingen in Oekrane dergelijke explosies in de hand werkt.
De pijplijn geldt als een van de belangrijkste aanvoerroutes van Russisch gas naar Europa. De explosie heeft geen gevolgen voor de aanvoer van gas naar Europa, zo claimt het Russische gasbedrijf Gazprom vanochtend.

Denis Pushilin, chairman of the presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic told ITAR-TASS by telephone on Wednesday that a decision by Ukraine’s Security Service to put him on its wanted list would not prevent him from performing his official duties.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry posted information on its website that Pushilin was a fugitive from state power bodies and that he was wanted by Ukraine’s Security Service.
Pushilin told ITAR-TASS that unidentified persons had blown up his car 100 meters off the Donetsk regional administration building on June 12.
The car of Pushilin’s aide Maxim Petrukhin, a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Donetsk People’s Republic, was gunned down on June 7.
The republic’s leadership described the attacks as terrorist acts.

A steady rise in killings, torture and abductions by pro-Russia armed groups in eastern Ukraine has claimed hundreds of lives since last month, UN monitors in the region said.
At least 356 people, including 257 civilians, have been killed since May 7, according to a Wednesday statement by the 34 monitors with the UN human rights office.
Among those casualties are 86 Ukrainian military personnel, including the 49 crew and troops who died when a Ukrainian military transport plane was shot down by separatists last week.

Russia has resumed a military build-up near Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rassmussen said on Thursday:

If they're deployed to seal the border and stop the flow of weapons and fighters that would be a positive step. But that's not what we're seeing.
Instead Russia appears bent on using it military to intimidate Ukraine further.

NAVO-chef Rasmussen zei vandaag dat Rusland zijn troepenmacht aan de grens met Oekrane weer uitbreidt. Hij spreekt van een "betreurenswaardige stap terug".
Volgens Rasmussen heeft Rusland de afgelopen tijd duizenden extra militairen naar de regio gestuurd. "Als ze zouden worden ingezet om de grens te bewaken en de smokkel van wapens en strijders tegen te gaan, zou dat positief zijn. Maar dat is niet wat er gebeurt."
Bij de strijd in Oost-Oekrane zijn de afgelopen maanden volgens de VN meer dan 350 mensen omgekomen, de meesten burgers. Ook zijn tienduizenden Oekraeners op de vlucht, binnen Oekrane maar ook naar Rusland.

In the course of the night from 18th to 19th [of June], the enemy implemented a large-scale transfer of troops from the vicinity of Dolgenkoye village, where they have their stronghold and encampment, to the region of Krasniy Liman. Altogether, over 130 various items of military equipment were moved, including approximately 20 tanks and 40 APCs (“BMD,” “BMP” and “BTR”). The saboteur-intelligence group of the militia was able to take out one of the “BTR” APCs in the column by exploding a landmine. In addition, in the course of the night, the militia conducted strikes against the stronghold of the enemy in the Kombikormoviy neighbourhood.
Early in the morning on June 19, 2014, the enemy, with tanks and motorized infantry, and supported by two ground attack fighters Su-25, a division of self-propelled howitzers, a GRAD MLRS battery and several mortar batteries, dealt a massive blow against the positions of the Krasniy Liman detachment of militia located in the vicinity of Yampol settlement. The first attack was repelled, and an enemy tank was hit. At approximately 11:00 in the morning, the enemy resumed its attack, and despite losses, broke through the front. In the course of the battle, the enemy lost 4 “BMD” APCs and a large number of troops. However, using its colossal superiority in manpower and weaponry, the enemy was able to take Yampol and Zakhotnoye settlements, as well as the bridge across the river “Severniy Donets.” The Krasniy Liman detachment of militia suffered large losses in manpower and weaponry and was scattered. A detachment from Slavyansk that was sent to assist was also unable to stop the overwhelming forces of the enemy. Nevertheless, they fought an unequal battle in the settlement of Krivaya Luka.
As of 18:00 in the evening, the battle continues, the militia are attempting to break through the positions of the enemy toward Slavyansk.
Simultaneously with an attack against Yampol, large tank and motorized infantry forces of the enemy attacked the city of Seversk, where they were engaged in combat by the detachments of the militia commanded by Alexander Mozgovoi (the Lisichansk Battalion). The battle continues.
Attempting to assist the detachments fighting in the north, the Kramatorsk company (original – “rota”), undertook an attack against the enemy positions in the vicinity of the Markov settlement (to the east of Kramatorsk). In the course of the battle for control of the checkpoint, they were able to hit [and take out] one “BMP” APC and one “BTR” APC of the enemy. One of the militia fighters was lightly wounded. There have been no changes to positions around Slavyansk and Semyonovka.
In the morning, the detachments of the militia conducted mortar strikes against the Karachun Mount and against the positions of the enemy in the settlement of Vostochniy. In response, the enemy shot at Semyonovka with tanks, and, at 18:00, conducted artillery strikes with howitzers against the centre of Slavyansk. Multiple buildings hit and partially destroyed.
In conclusion, we can now confirm that the Ukrainian military has fulfilled the task, assigned by Poroshenko, of encircling the militia in the city of Slavyansk. Despite the courage and resilience of the militia fighters, they are unable to withstand in the open field massive attacks with tanks, artillery and aviation, particularly when the enemy has overwhelming superiority in manpower.
The militia and the people of the Donetsk People’s Republic call on the leadership of the Russian Federation to provide immediate aid to Novorossiya, in order to prevent the further genocide of the Russian population.

It was not clear if the whole of the proposed demilitarized no-man's land would be on Ukraine's side of the border or part of it on the Russian side. It was also not clear what the status of people living in border areas would be.
Acting Defence Minister Mykhailo Koval told parliament on Friday that government forces were now back in control of the border and there was now no possibility of military equipment being ferried in to the rebels from Russia.
