Ilse and Waylon give us once again a good vocal performance. Everything is rather dark, and looks close to being black and white. The flags in the audience and Waylon's guitar are the ones that give away the other colours. I would call this a proper dark horse to win this contest.

The hosts on next with Basim singing a very simple catchy tune. It has elements of some 70′s pop tune but its highly infectious easy to sing-along to and extremely memorable. That makes it dangerous. It will be a big winner tonight and tomorrow and in the mix for a double victory. Possible 1-6th.

The staging of it is excellent and the double microphone allows them to face each other and the sweeping camera work around them look great. Its musically a great song sung really perfectly. This could well win tomorrow night and will get high jury votes tonight. Possible 1-4th.

Het kan ons alleen maar onnoemelijk veel plezier doen dat uitgerekend iemand als Ilse DeLange samen met Waylon verbaast met haar talent en een gewaagde kwaliteitssong. Het Nederlandse duo heeft hier nu al voor een klein mirakel gezorgd door op amper een goede week tijd vanuit de catacomben van de bookmakers op te klimmen tot de top 3. Maar da’s geen toeval. ‘Calm after the Storm’ wordt voorzien van een prachtige inkleding, maar staat ook poedelnaakt als een huis dankzij de schitterende vertolking. Onze Noorderburen zijn nu al de morele winnaars van dit festival. Of de televoter straks ook effectief zorgt voor de vijfde Nederlandse overwinning, valt af te wachten. Maar alleszins hebben Ilse & Waylon het Songfestival nu al een dienst van formaat bewezen door simpelweg terug te keren naar de essentie van wat een ‘liedjes’-wedstrijd moet zijn.
